I think it is essential personally. Martins is the only one who you can hang your hopes on getting more than 20 games out of, Shola's likely away (and crap) and Smith is the player least likely to score in the entire squad.
I know "give him time" and all that but I'm with Heneage, I don't think Carroll's good enough or ever will be.
Who are the six?
Owen, Martins, Viduka, Shola, Carroll, Smith?
Only three of those are worthy of the title 'striker' though, and Vids will miss the start of the season, potentially a month or two more as well.
Gerraway man. Until now, Spain are probably the only major footballing nation who've underperformed more than England at international level.
I think you've missed the point.
I haven't like.
You can still produce class players yet underperform at International Level.
Why did tmonkey mention the number of foreigners then? Seemed clear to me that he was talking about the excuses made about the England side re: the number of foreign players in the league. No reason to mention them otherwise.

He's played a season and a half in the Premiership. 'Class' is pushing it as well, he's done really well for Fulham in his brief appearances but was nowt special at Wigan in Premiership terms.
I know someone who proved much more than Bullard over a much longer time period. I'll give you a clue: he's Scouse and he's a headcase. Some people have short memories and use a hell of a lot of hindsight.
