The thing is that the BBC know very well the value of expert footballing opinion outside of the ex-pro circle. The jewel in 5Live's footballing crown is Vickery and the other guests on the World Football Phone in, hidden away on Up All Night. But they also know that your white van man type feels more comfortable hearing from good old ex-pros, which is why we end up with Murphy, Savage and Co on the main shows. The best ex-pro pundit on the Beeb by an absolute mile is Lineker, and he's sat there doing nowt but asking Martin Keown to dribble on the microphone.

The average table further down the page has us in 13th. The 6th place is as a total, not an average. I can't remember this much dribbling obsession about our attendances in years previous. It's getting proper cringeworthy.

That Dean Saunders story.
-
I dislike the bloke as much as anyone but what sort of headline is that?
-
Phew, another discussion about Aston Villa's fans, thank God. I was beginning to get withdrawals.
-
Southgate looks remarkably like Phil Neville there.

What a farce this bloody thing is now. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/oct/05/checkatrade-trophy-rules-circumvented-bradford-substitute-goalkeeper-colin-doyle

The point in the PFM article about the PL being largely foreign owned, largely foreign managed and mostly made up of foreign players is what makes it all so funny, the way they go on about the league being one that requires some sort of particular expertise that you absolutely can't get anywhere else, despite the league's more successful clubs largely being managed by foreigners who have hit the ground running no bother.

Their longevity is really impressive, they've been doing Mediawatch every day for at least 12 years cos I used to read it when I was using the computers at university, and I'd imagine it's not an insignificant amount of work to put together.
-
Fucking love Mediawatch. I was eagerly awaiting the edition covering that show on 5Live just from seeing the podcast description, knew it would be good.
-
"Did well with Middlesbrough" = got relegated. Brilliant. I don't particularly think that's a reason to discount Southgate, he's still relatively young and inexperienced, but the PFMs love a blatant lie.
-
Who was/is he on there? Someone called Gipetto I think. Nah.
-
They only moved to 5th after winning last night, they were 12th. Just missed out on a play off spot last year though.
-
Love re-reading that article, it's so good. Sean Dyche: "Michael Cox, who did he play for?" He's got a fucking nerve like, bog standard lower league centre half clogger.
-
Sutton's the biggest advocate of PFMs working on the punditry circuit. He was basically working as Nigel Pearson's agent back around the time we hired Rafa.
-
Haven't heard 5Live's football show from last night but the podcast byline is "Sutton: Snobbery towards British managers is disgraceful" Such a weird cunt that bloke.
-
Fit enough to play regularly, what a surprise.
-
Our fans at SJP are so fantastic that they didn't even celebrate leveling against Norwich. It just looks like that on all the videos, very deceptive.
-
Great goal right at the end from Balotelli to send Nice back to the top and even had time to get himself sent off.
-
Every post he's made is either "Atsu is brilliant" or "Atsu is shite". http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php?action=profile;area=showposts;u=12974

Cambridge's keeper saved two penalties in injury time today.

I generally steer clear of betting against teams that have just sacked/lost a failing manager but Port Vale (5 wins out of 5 at home) at 5/4 against Coventry (1 point from 5 away games) looks very generous.
