Relegation could have been avoided right up until the end of the January transfer window but Mike preferred to carry on with his master plan: sell your best players for an absolute pittance, don't receive any cash for them, replace them with dross paid for up front. Whatever you think of Shepherd, in that same situation at the end of January, there's no way he'd have sacrificed the club's Premiership status like Ashley did purely because the fat mong thought it would save him a couple of quid.

yeah, its much better getting relegated than , finishing second or playing in the champions league. So we are better off with 100 million in debt are we?. What, than being in the Championship? Er, yes. We're a football club. That means that on the field matters take precedence over everything else. You might find solace in the books being balanced (even though they're not because we've just lost a shitload of cash by being RELEGATED) when we're playing Doncaster on a Tuesday night next season but I won't.

It's one thing the big guns unsettling and ultimately signing the best players from the rest but it's quite another when big clubs with European football (albeit until O'Neill bottles it again) to offer like Villa can't keep hold of their finest just because a club who finished below them start flashing the cash. Managerial experience is a great deal less important at Championship level imo. Less tactical nouse required because the game is less negative. Loads of upcoming new managers have breezed the Championship and been found out immediately at Premiership level. None of us know how Shearer will do as a boss but I'm not worried about his suitability for the Championship.
