Samaris or Mccarthy? I'd personally go for the younger player with prem experience. Hope we make the right decision as it's a key transfer. Saying that just seen Everton want £25m for him ffs.

We've a lot to buy with less money than others to do it with. It's going to take some work to do that. At least it looks like we've got a plan and logical structure in place, a one which the manager understands and agrees with.

All very sensible stuff and really as expected. Not sure why there was so much angst on here recently, if there was real issues Rafa would have walked already.
-
Honestly man, 6 fucking years. I've been on here double that. What an utter pisstake life can be.

Was never given a real chance, probably less than any player we've recently signed...and who failed. He was billed as a cheap mans Kante....former winger turned central mid with defensive qualities...not even sure if any of that is true we saw that little of him.

And the other 100 posts where he should be nowhere near the side. tbf...you hated him. Was quite funny reading back. Point stands though, he was decent for a wee while, even his biggest critic had some praise for him

Perch had his moments... http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,93852.msg4321122.html#msg4321122 http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,92042.msg3619327.html#msg3619327

Epic start to his Anderlecht career. Only was is up i suppose.

Darlow was the best keeper in the championship last season His stats are very good played 34, conceded 32. 34 games and 13 clean sheets. Not many better according to the stats http://www.foxsports.com/soccer/stats?competition=23&season=20160&category=GOALKEEPING&pos=0&team=0&sort=6&sortOrder=1 This is a sarcastic post, right? Sarcastic stats ?................... are you for real ?

As it stands yes, seemingly not much ambition as usual, and Ashley happy to do the minimum and hope to survive. Currently i'm still optimistic. We've seen a player that everyone (manager/board) agrees on in terms of quality:cost ratio and we've signed him. No doubt we stumbled a bit on the deal, but i firmly believe we did it with the best intentions of keeping the main funds for other players. If we had not ambition to sign more quality then we'd have not haggled over the structure of the deal, paid upfront knowing we're going to buy fuck all else. It probably got Rafa frustrated and the fans nervous, especially when we've enquired of other players and not bit due to the prices being quoted. I think we also know should we return in a few weeks the prices will change as clubs start dealing and making moves. As it stands its been a quiet start by all, and we're waiting on a few key deals going through to spark the market in to life. Its this that i believe is holding us back rather than lack of ambition or waiting to sell. We're happy to pay a fair price and sell for a fair price, everyone else right now are greedy fuckers demanding the earth for shite and average players hoping to get lucky. Again i reckon had Everton waited a couple more weeks they'd have had Pickford for 25-30% less but they haven't been smart imo and decided that getting in early was more key to their plans than anything else. Fair enough, but we won't do that as we're not in Everton's position financially or standing. We will sign players, and they'll be good ones, but right now when the market isn't stimulated there isn't any value showing. That'll all change soon enough when clubs need to make moves of their own...alternatively we can buy expensive tat or over the odds for our key targets draining funds for other positions. I also believe none of our key targets have moved or we'd probably pay the rate asked so we don't miss out. I could be totally wrong of course, just my opinion.

I'd personally sell the lot, buy a top keeper and have Woodman on the bench. Wonder if we could tempt Forster back? Wouldn't mention top keeper and then Forster in the same sentence, he is massively overrated. I think he's very good for where we are, he'd be a top keeper for some time if he came back. We couldn't afford Hart and Butland wouldn't sidestep (or currently drop a level) for us. Outside of the league I'm not sure of a top keeper who'd join us. Yeah I'm not saying he wouldn't be good for us, just when you said top keeper I thought you meant it as world class. He would more than do a job for us. I meant top keeper relative to our position. I'd prefer someone in the league as well after the disaster of a signing Sels was.

We should be looking at £8m for Darlow, anything less would be disappointing. If we don't sign a new keeper I think we may see a lot of Elliot this season.

Poor thing. Couldn't imagine having to watch your child go through that. I'm glad the footballing world made it easier for them all. When I was struggling on the second day of the castles to coast last weekend I just remembered what him and other kids are going through, the fight they've had to show and for me to stop being a right fanny and to craic on up that hill. It's little inspirations like that which normally would never resonate with me and why I think it's touched many in different ways apart from the obvious. RIP little man, you fought it all the way.

Glad you thought long and hard about this comment before pressing 'post'

So we're struggling to struggle to spend the money?

Fucking Scotland

Torino played with a free can opener every game. It was like a science experiment from the few games i caught, I'm not saying I wouldn't be open to seeing him here, but £15 million is way over his current stock when you also consider his wages. Just look at Sels for wages.

They owe us for a cheap Given. Honestly Hart at not so daft price, say £15m an selling Krul & Darlow for £10m would be one of the smartest things we do all season.

True, as not as good as Steve Watson playing in that role, or Steve in any role. He'd have won an oscar in Birdman, i just know it. You're weird. Fucking hell, this must be the first time you got this right. Have a wank or something, you deserve it.
-
Thought Rafa was off though? Watson was pretty much the Perch of the 90's just about used anywhere the guy wore about every number available at some point or another. Comparing him as a CB and against a player who has still got a decade ahead of him is pointless. I think my opinion was Watson was better in midfield scored quite a few decent goals. Dont think he ever nailed down CB as his best position. And again on Rafa hes still here. If he was lied to in January fair enough its out of order, but bed-wetting like you and so many were last week didn't do you any good at all. Row-naldo. Hang on. That makes ME the WUM?
-
Naaa. Best to write him off now especially against a 90's RB with a hollywood throw.
