For someone who was meant to be a pure finisher, he was just not up to it and was pushed out of the side by Marlon Harewood. What the hell? He scored 16 goals that season. Harewood got 1. Again this is in the backdrop of playing a number of those appearances from the wing or from the bench. Hughton and Pardew liked to use him not as an out and out striker but instead as someone who could make clever runs off the ball to create gaps for Nolan and Carroll to exploit. He was a highly effective and underrated player for us at the time he was with us.
