On balance. He turned down chances to move on to sit on the bench or because he didn't fancy the Championship, likewise had that bust up with Jones earlier this season. Could be said he hasn't had a fair shake of first team games but he has also been crocked and looked no better than anyone else, if not worse when given the chance. Don't have any ill will towards him but happy to see him out and replaced. Three years too late.

To have the attention he is getting, not just us but lots of other top teams interested, this must be the case. Players that hit a purple patch or that were off the radar just don't get this attention so quickly or have teams jumping this early. Teams would have done for Michael Owen I guess but it seems teen stars are much more dime a dozen these days whether they are overhyped or there are just so many more emerging and getting minutes.

Other than Wilson (who is someone I always wanted here) I haven't been as delighted with a signing for us over the past 5 or so years. Thought he was an immense capture having watched him in the MLS, still think it's there but time is or has run out. Maybe it's a mental thing, too much lost in translation in tactics or what coaches want for him. Certainly confidence is a factor but playing him as a 10 is his best position and we haven't done that. His workrate is likely what will keep him here but I just wish we would give him a go at 10, properly. We would be delighted if we bought this Almiron now: (albeit the shite that MLS is)

Cantwell is a bit like Ramsey for me. I'm fine with them coming in IF we also get another CM/DM. Plenty on here around a year ago that would have loved Cantwell here. He is potentially a project but knows the league, like Wood, and can make an impact. Would imagine we would sell Miggy to accomodate. As much as I still harbour hopes he gets back to the player we bought we might be forced to cash in on him as one of our few saleable assets (loosely using the word asset).

It can't hurt. Cambridge was potentially so damaging for this given its press coverage, even if being out of the cup is more beneficial to focussing on the league. A good performance and win at the weekend would set us straighter, revive some more hope and most people will forget quickly when the last game played was a win. Simply can't see a reality where top tier players would pick us over clubs like Manure, in this window at least. Heck Villa are more attractive. We lucked out with Trippier but he had a previous relationship with Howe, is British and wanted to return home. Foreign players without any attachment will be harder to convince. Almost feels like time wasted chasing dream players when we can just get solid players that will keep us up and get them imbedded. I doubt we would be chasing any big name players without encouragement though, just a shame so far we seem to have been chasing shadows.

I would take Cantwell in the same way I don't mind wood. Will slot in and make an impact immediately. He has a point to prove and is a good project, definitely offers something different for us. Boubacar Kamara seems like a no brainer, he can play in CB and DM. Another Striker, One CB, another LB or Aarons, Kamara and Cantwell would probably see us fine to the summer,

Everton, West Ham and Villa wanted him last summer. He is a solid signing. Hopefully we bring in a wow factor striker before February too. I'm here for him helping us win at the weekend and all the "Got Wood" headlines. We have been missing presence and physicality in the box and all over the pitch really. He gives that for sure.
