  2. Don't think we will push this one, up to Ajax to come down to our price if this happens at all, imo. I think we need him though, I don't think Abeid, Bigi or Vuckic are ready for starting roles yet. His versatility would be handy too.
  3. Yeah, I guess it depends what you want out of the wide man. Definitely directness, but also the ability to dribble and create.
  4. Think we need a pacey striker that can cover that LF/RF slot that Demba was playing in. Not sure that Sammy is the answer, not yet at least. JH is very much a 4-3-3 player in just the positions you describe. What's his work rate like? We talking Scott Parker or Laurent Robert? I think and hope that is the type of striker we are looking at. Given the amount of Wingers we have been linked with I think that is where we are looking to sign a player. We have Ba, Cisse and *cough Ameobi that can play in the center so I think we can do without signing another out and out striker, at least until January when we will know if we are losing Cisse and Ba for a month or not. I don't know about yourself but I have difficulty articulating the differing qualities of a wide player in a 4-3-3 and a wide player (a winger) in a 4-4-2. Is it the ability to play more directly as well as using the width I wonder? I think you have it really. Don't see why a good winger wouldn't work in that position.
  5. This really, although I totally agree with Geordiedog's sentiment. I hate the fact players turn their back on their own country and try to pick a more successful nation opposed to help build their own. However some people will do everything they can to be as successful as they can during their careers. Some players might not get the chance to appear at a world cup if they stay loyal. It is similar to Man City buying the title rather than doing it the honest way, or hitting the windows button and reload when your two nil halftime lead is wiped out and you lose the F.A. cup final in championship manager. We are in an impatient age.. few people have the patience to do things the right way if there is a short cut to success.

  8. Ha, too true. Like a lot of things here Canada seemed to have a good thing going previous to the states and then pulled funding. If they had even kept the funding the same in the 60's/70's then the national team and probably the MLS would be a completely different proposition. Can't understand why they wouldn't structure a league system like the UK. Right now it is the number one inner city sport but kids have nowhere to go after highschool if they any good, other than abroad, most kids wouldn't take the gamble. At least Toronto and Vancouver are setting up a good youth program now. 40 years too late. As for Hoillet and Canada he is more concerned with playing for the best national side he can rather than sticking with the country that raised him. I can understand that, its just annoying because having someone like him and De Guzman committing to Canada and not pulling a Hargreaves would encourage the younger players to commit and drastically improve the team. Anyway rant over.
  9. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11671/7896289/Hoilett-close-to-move Good news for Canada. Bugger might even commit to playing now, can't see him waiting to get German citizenship.
  10. Doesn't he have a brochure this time around for prospective clubs?
  11. Every day is like a holiday when you sign for the toon.
  12. So if we do get Debuchy and Douglas and simpson leaves, who are we going to make the official starting team scapegoat this year to pick apart for generally little reason? Discounting Obertan... Im going to say Gutierrez the signs are already there.
  13. Gonna hedge my bets and say either a win, loss or draw in this one.
  14. Just does not load! Don't think they were expecting an overload of newcastle fans finding the stream.
  15. Would have to be insane to get rid of Santon tbh. He is ridiculously advanced for his age and versatile. Looking forward to seeing him again this season.
  16. Any chance some one could message me the link?
  17. Fergie injured? Would have liked to have seen him at LB, surprised the bench isnt bigger thought we would do the usual 45mins each 11 players.
  18. Lets not forget it was Ben Arfa that opened the door to this.. and ironically maybe we should be thanking Nigel De Jong for injuring him, because it was our treatment of Hatem at that time that rebuilt our reputation along with him making noises about it.
  19. Have said I would welcome him back, still would tbh but I don't think he is what we need in this window. We certainly need a striker but someone like Hoilett that can play on the left side of a front 3 and is more of a pacey creative striker is what we are lacking. We have Cisse and Ba until the January window and given their draw it is possible they might not make the African cup anyway. If they are away we can sign another out and out striker in January. One striker signing this summer would be enough for the first team provided it is someone as mentioned above, that can compliment Ben Arfa on the other right wing. We desperately need a couple of strikers for our development squad though.
  20. If he was still that capable, more than one premier league appearance last season would have fallen into his lap. The guy looks finished and his arrogance in regards to playing in the championship is laughable. He might well be able to play at the highest level but at his probable wage demands and injury record he is kidding himself and plain stupid to rule out the championship which is a higher standard than many european leagues imo.
  21. Fantastic news if true..great price too.
  22. He will entertain every offer! As he should tbh. Moving to Germany would be a dent to his international ambitions though, which is good news for Canada or Jamaica. Cant see him waiting another 5 years to get a German passport.
