Resigned on personal reasons... http://sports.sympatico.msn.cbc.ca/abc/News/ContentPosting.aspx?isfa=1&feedname=CBC-SPORTS-V3&showbyline=True&date=true&newsitemid=sp-john-carver Shame he was doing a decent job. Hope they appoint someone decent to replace him. Nailed on he will be back here if shearer stays on. -
Dont like it tbh. not sure why.

seems like more of a mentor role coupled with organising scouting etc. cant see dogleesh back, id welcome him back, didnt hold anything against him last time. i still like the idea of a dof, the person has to be chosen by the manager though. lets just hope he doesnt turn to el tel.

Even if we go down we may still be in the "Premier League"

If they really need to have the Scottish Clubs involved I'd much rather they just merged the Carling Cup with the English and Scottish teams and had the winner qualify for Europe or something. The Carling cup is useless and has been meaningless for nearly ten years now, would at least spice it up a little. If they are really hell bent on having the Scottish teams involved test it out with that and make them earn it. -
Ya bugger, beat me too it, knew I shouldnt have ranted so long! Tuning in to bbc final whistle praying for a goal update... steve watson forcing one in to save our blushes. I remember the epic 2-3 win away at leeds really not that long ago in the Bobby Robson era and the excitment of listening to it in the car on the radio!

It's not like I can go to the stadium to watch the game. I work my ass off all week and one of the things I really look forward to is being able to watch Newcastle on the weekends over the winter. We go down and that's that. It amazes me that a team that is supposed to have the most "passionate" supporters would have so many assholes on a message board giving people grief for feeling strongly about the club and wanting to follow the team if we go down. What the hell did you do before illegal streams or setanta? I was strangely thinking about this earlier before reading this thread. Due to Setanta or certain avenues since moving to Canada I have been spoilt by the amount of games I can watch, between three sports channels every game is covered over here. I dont think I have missed a match this season. Growing up in the south (uk) I never had the oppurtunity to go up to Newcastle much and there were barely games on tv. It wasnt so long ago Id been stuck on ceefax updates or listening to the radio and you know what sometimes it was a hell of a lot more exciting than watching the match on TV, imagining the passes, picturing the finish, for f***s sakes looking forward to Match of the Day to see the goals I had imagined. There will always be radio coverage, now text updates, or soccer saturday, the odd games on TV. Maybe they will extend the highlights on the website which is more than fine. Modern culture is so dependant on having everything handed to them on a plate without doing any work and demanding it now, its not going to kill anyone to go without. If anything it might bring people back to games. What happens if we stay up and your TV breaks, will you have to give up on football or live sport itself? or maybe even get up off your ass and do something productive? In a society that lets you watch or do pretty much what you want when you want it shouldnt be hard.

Thinking about it, there are very few players that I would be gutted to see leave. Oba - Its the character, the unpredictability, will miss him. Bassong - A beast, cant see him staying though, he will certainly have suitors to prize him away, even if he wanted to stay. Guthrie - See alot of potential in him, like Bassong a player to build the team around in coming years Enrique - Think he is really up for the fight, has talent just needs games Beye - Absolute legend. Actually think he would stay, he loves the area and is winding down anyway Barton - Despite everything, I really do think he will turn everything around, that said similar with Bowyer, who had proven more. Other than that I wouldnt bat an eyelid at anyone else leaving. All things considered if we should stay up I wouldnt mind panning everyone else bar these and a couple of others anyway. Bar Oba there is an outside chance of keeping most of those players and they would make a solid spine. The likes of Lovenkrands, Ranger, Vukic, Edgar, Butt, Taylor, Carroll, Baheng, Tozer and Kadar would all more than likely stay on. The main problem would be attracting the right players to fill up the gaping holes we would have in the squad. Sure we will attract players, but maybe not enough of the right ones to take us back up and if that happens we will lose the majority of the good players we have left. Nightmare situation really.

I think the likes of Taylor, Guthrie maybe even Beye and Barton would stay. However we will cash in on most if not the lot of them. People like Geremi, Nolan, R.Taylor, Smith, maybe even Butt might get snapped up by the lower or new teams in the premiership. Id like to think we would keep hold of Guthrie/Bassong akin to Brum and Seb Larson.. With the amount of money we will fetch in for the guys we are shipping out we should be able to keep a few if they are willing to stay. There will be big promises about keeping all our promising and best players like Bassong, but they will either request moves or we will cave in as we always do. Then the great unwanted like Nolan and Ryan Taylor will have weekly articles praising their commitment to the cause by staying on tyneside. Alot depends on who is manager. If it is someone fresh or Shearer, I think we might see a complete overhaul, otherwise I fear JFK will cling on to anyone with premiership experience to save a bit of face. (much to the likes of Geremi's relief) Harper, Krul, Foster, Edgar, Tozer, R. Taylor, Kadar Butt, Nolan/guthrie, Vukic (until someone snaps him up in January), Lua Lua. Ameobi, Carroll, Ranger (until january), Lovenkrands Is realistically all I can see us being left with. Id expect we will trawl the world market for unknown foreign players whilst throwing our weight around with a sprinkling of expensive up and coming UK championship/Div 1 players that could flop or fly.

We will be lucky to offload Duff let alone the other three. Unfortunately we are much more likely to see Butt, Nolan and Taylor as automatic starters next year for JFK, they will also be getting closer to the level of football the represent.
-
Two more shit players we will be lumbered with in the championship or lower over the next few years. I didnt think anyone could best Viduka for lack of pace and mobility, to think this guy was touted as the next Gerrard. Ryan Taylor is more interested in taking out players than playing football, the so called set piece specialist makes Geremi look like Ronaldo.

Second half was much better but the thread title says it all. Yet another team there to be taken and once we get past two or three passes (if we are lucky) we give the ball away or go backwards. We can't even start to create anything because we break ourselves down even when we arent under pressure. Passing, posession, tackles, marking, defending. You name it when it comes to basic footballing necessities and we manage to add sloppy infront of any of it.

Catch them in a black and white shirt whilst you can. To be fair, most of them dont deserve to wear it.

Thought Ryan Taylor had been taking acting lessons from Saylor, pathetic today, more interested in putting a foot in than using what little there is of his brain. -
Butt is awful man. There's no point in having a DM if they're just going to give the ball away. It defeats the purpose. Sad thing is we all know that, but we've no one better...... It really is that desperate. Im wondering whether we should give cacapa another go at DM, atleast he cant cock it up in defence then Colo would be better than Butt in DM, this is Shearer's true test. Colo put in one of the worst performances I have ever seen when we started him in DM earlier in the season. Blind faith if you think that will work, he is weak as piss and shits himself when anyone challenges him, its too busy for him there, you could probably apply that to the premier league and colo in general.

Sad thing is, he will be a constant feature in our championship side next season. He will never leave this club.
