Love this thread. Its even better because we are just as bad but now we beat West Brom its back to being world beaters! With the flake of a back line we have dont be suprised to see the Spurs fans laughing at us at the end of the season as they have every chance of staying up and as much as the both of us have every chance of going down.

Avram grant nailed on. That said, I quote the exact same thing when Rednapp left. Curbs would be a decent choice too. Both would turn them around.

Javier Aguirre lined up to replace Joe Kinnear Shocker
toontownman replied to biggs's topic in Football
If there is any truth in our interest in Aguirre and Kinnear is walking a tight health line it would be good to bring him in as a coach anyway. That way he can settle into life here and get a less pressurised start. If the invevitable happens and Kinnear somehow gets appointed full time he can move on to another club or stay on the staff. If not maybe Kinnear can stay on to assist in a less pressurised role and Aguirre can step up. Wishfull thinking really, not likely Aguirre would be interest as acting as a interim coach, but would be a good move for him if he is serious about Managing over here if only for experience. Would certainly have me a little bit more confident having an experienced coach and manager there if kinnear gets hospitalised again. -
Agree, but only one of those two is likely to be here next season. The transfer team have been trying to offload Barton for over a year now.

This. As much as I'd like to put it down to a lack of fitness he never seems arsed. Kinnear did get him playing a few months ago, maybe he can send another rocket up his arse, looks like he needs it. As for his effectiveness yesterday, he was aided hugely by the ineptitude of the West Brom defenders. Despite ambling around and being careless in posession his physical presence was a constant threat. Looks like now the contract is sorted he is back in the comfort zone. Lets hope Viduka strikes is lucky and manages to stay fit for more than 2 games in a row.

Sunday Sun: Reckons we have made a third party in Spain aware we may want Javier Aguirre to takeover as gaffer in the summer. His wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javier_Aguirre Will have to see how Joe gets on this week, more than possible role for him as he is both available and interested in coming to the premier league.

Joe Kinnear has triple heart bypass surgery, home on Sunday
toontownman replied to JH's topic in Football
if we build it Houllier will come. -
He was the only player in our defence trying to make decisive passes and made quite a few excellent ones to our front players, as well as some nice short passing. He got some wrong as well, but s*** passing? Also can't remember him losing all these physical challenges. His positioning in the first half was woeful, Bassong nearly ripped him a new arsehole 3 times. Overall he pulled a decent performance off, was better in the second, gets far too easily sucked into the centre, between him and duff there was always at least one person free down that left side.

Get well soon Joe. I do agree with Ian56 though, Joe has to really seriously start thinking about things. At the very least we should be bringing another coach in if we can, I dont have any faith in Hughton or Calderwood to hold the fort if he needs any treatment. -
Looked great today, wouldnt mind us going back to 4-3-3 tbh.
-
Hit and Miss, great set pieces, some missed chances and sloppy tracking back but overall decent. Not convinced he would be decent at RB, seems a bit lightweight.
-
My preference, and all realistic. 1)Houllier 2)Bruce 3)Mancini 4)Ketsbaia 5)Shearer
-
Ironic that "for the best" we are trying to keep kinnear who is the reason we will have lost arguably our best striker, left back, goal keeper and left winger.. when do people start questioning his abilities to manage.

Pre Match: West Bromwich Albion vs. Newcastle United - 07/02/09 3pm
toontownman replied to joeyt's topic in Football
would be nice if JFK can send out a side in the first half that actually fancies playing a game of football rather than giving the ball away and letting the opposition score. The biggest thing that worries me at the minute is the lack of confidence and motivation instilled into the team. If there was one thing I thought JFK would do, it would be firing the players up to perform to their best every game. Unless he hits a winning formular soon I think it might well be bye bye JFK aswell as our premiership status. If colo is out ---------------------------Harper--------------------------- R.Taylor------S.Taylor----------------Bassong-----Enrique Duff----------Nolan--------------------Butt----------Lovenkrands ---------------Ameobi----------Martins------------------ Would be nice enough. -
This to be honest. Have him in for a year or so to groom shearer then move him upstairs. He is a name everyone forgets about but is probably one of the most obvious choices, is respected, has great experience and achievements to boot, would persuade Owen to stay, works great with youngsters. Would be a willing mentor to Shearer. Probably the best fit out there for this club. Wanted him when we appointed Roeder and after he left. We should have gone all out for him after keegan left. Of the others: Bruce - we have done worse, would be a solid choice over time if not an enthralling one. He would get the club stable again but If all did go to plan I dont think he would be the one to take us back to the top four or beyond. Martinez - Like him, but too much of a risk. Ironic I can say that with JFK in the hotseat every day, maybe with some experience around him. Probably a non starter though. Jol - Wouldnt be a bad choice again, probably more like Bruce but could take us a slight touch futher, IF fans took to him. Ketsbaia - Would be mental, would get everyone happy and the players fired up, seems like a great coach and knows the club. I think the powers that be would see him as too much of a risk, maybe fair enough. Would be entertaining though. Shearer - Would go one of two ways, surrounded by a diverse and experienced coaching set up wouldnt be so bad, its got to happen sometime. The people appointed around him would be vital though. Moyes - Seems crazy to think he would be even remotely interested, but never say never. He has been at Everton a while, people under estimate the pull of the club even in the states its in, a big contract, money to spend and a decent set up could entice him imo. He would however be mad to come. Has done a great job at Everton Im sure there are a plethera of talented foreign coaches that would jump at the job too, I cant think of any off hand that I would like though. On the flip side there are plenty of coaches in the UK that would do the same, I dont think there are any I would want that I havent mentioned though.

Nicky Butt enacts one-year contract extension clause
toontownman replied to pinkeye's topic in Football
Just when you thought things couldnt get much worse... ...a 3-0 loss to West Brom followed by JFK signing a 3 year contract! -
..only spread the crabs they had transfered from a days worth of scratching their crotches and behind instead of sealing transfers

Can we still sign some of these youngsters outside the window? Seems we had a whole load in the bag but someone forgot to tie it up and they all escaped.

The FA Youth Cup 2008/09 - Knocked out, 4-2 to Manchester City (a)
toontownman replied to Greg's topic in Football
We need some Ranger Danger magic in this one. Man City are hot favourites as usual. -
Would we really take that news if true. Its only been a marriage of convenience so far to get our green card to stay up. Fans have only been accepting him on the basis we cant get anybetter and it will ONLY be until the end of the season. If he gets appointed full time I think we could see all hell break loose, it might well condemn us to relegation without kicking a ball.

Im totally done with this joke of a manager now. Its taken long enough. We will be lumbered with him until: a) the end of the season at least (getting a new contract extension is unthinkable and surely something we would not take as fans) b) until we are too late to be saved by bringing someone else in (which is very much a scenario hurling its way into sight). The man just has no clue what so ever. It wont be long before the entire squad is alienated along with the majority of fans, Kinnear needs to pull some wins out of his arse and fast, because If its got to the point where I have no time left for him that generally means the majority of fans will have had enough and we all know where that leads. However I'm still swaying in the opinion getting yet another manager in now could do more damage than good, especially as we wont get anyone significantly better to come in at this point. I get the feeling due to imminent and understandable fan pressure/frustrations we wont have a choice but to find that out.
