  1. This thread should be moved to the Hall of Fame section... ... but not until I see a dozen more apologies and mea culpas. bluebiggrin.gif My "Keeping-calm-and-was-right-all-along" Award goes to: Alberto JohnnyPD and LeonB Congratulations! :first:
  2. Right in the first part wrong in the second (on both counts - neither wee Kevin Gally nor Sibi were/are shite).

    Inter-Toto

Alright everyone REPEAT AFTER ME: "I've done my time. I've paid my dues..."
  6. The man behind this purchase is a Bayly Philip Winder who comes from old money and splits his time between London and Princeton New Jersey... always worked with arab banks, retirement funds, hedge funds etc... why the interest in NUFC? His mother was English but also old money and Southern. Wife is from California. I don't know of a direct connection. Perhaps a link to the Gettys? Very strange purchase from this man. blueconfused.gif Anyone know anything else about this purchase? Why us? What other links can be made? BTW - Polygon, Winder, USB... serious deep pockets. Granted this money was not stolen from Russian citizens selling there shares in Soviet Industry compounded by mafia oil, prostitution & drug money*, but still... serious cash. * Any similarities to any other Premiership club be they southern shite, blue, band-wagon jumping, west end tory-voting w*nkers is purely coincidental/accidental and should not be taken as fact.
  7. blaydon races is about some happy bloke and singing and celebrating about the fact that he gets to have a day out seeing the races, the carrage wrecks, people are hurt (seriously in some cases) and the main character gets a broken nose and two black eyes. Despite the blood streaming down his face and fate obviously laughing at him he refuses to let it get him down and still is happy about the fact that he is on his way to the races... to no doubt lose all of his money... its an allegory about Newcastle fans and their relationshp with the Board over the past century. Its "starin'" by the way and not "stannin'" :winking:
  8. Said for ages that the physios an d the fitness coaches should be sacked. I think we got some new ones in and I believe Paul Winsper (long time fitness coach) recently quit. Hopefully we'll start to see a change. Souness was a nightmare by the way. Trainings consisted solely of: Endless 5 a sides with bone crunching tackles... brilliant

    Random Roeder poll

Get the new owners in, new chairman, new board, new plan to chart out where we are going and how we are going to get there. Until then Roeder it is... unless Hitzfield becomes a possibility... :winking:
  10. Mods: Is there anyway of hiding this thread from NE5? Without the usual hijack, this thread seems almost Bambi-esque in its innocence.
  11. Is that 19,000 a mistake? You get more than that at LA Galaxy games.
  12. That might be an Italian-Americanism. My Great-Grandmother said it was called that because putanesca sauce has a lot of dry goods like anchovies, dried chilis, olives and usually sun dried tomatoes. She said the assumption is that you've been f*cking around all day as opposed to doing some shopping for fresh ingredients. So its a "whorish" sauce. I've never been to Italy so I am not sure if they also say that there... at least in mixed comapny or in fine restaurants.
  13. I am not familiar with Italian culture but I know a little about Spain and Mexico and "Puta" is as common as "bloody" and means nowt as far as making a serous statement. We are all grown ups and Coppell has shown himself to be an absolute baby here. How many times do Premiership players say "F*ck off!" in English? ... aye just about every minute. Just because we don't say "Whore" or "Whoring" every other minute does nto mean that this word has any greater levety in Italian. I'd love it if we had a special obsecentiy filled chant just for him.
  14. There are many issues at hand that puts us in a state of limbo. Roeder's success or failure is linked to how long Fat Fred stays in power, when or if there is a takeover from Belgravia, what kind of funds will be available and when and if Shearer decides to get involved in the management of NUFC. We need resolution on many of these issues before we can move on with a more long term plan - Roeder is a short-term/stop gap measure, one of many which has typified the management of our Club for the past decade.
  15. Madras and Rebellious are the only ones on here not coming across as Puritans. I agree this should not be a story.
  16. It was the kind of goal everyone dreams about scoring for Newcastle. Rob the opposition in your own half jink a midfielder run into space and lash it high into the net in a "take that you f*cking filthy w!nkers" kind of way. Very satisfying.
  17. Nobby sucessfully blocked a similar shot that Pompey made against us. Very disappointing, but yes, Emre played too far up and we fell apart from a lack of confidence after that. So happy about this result.
  18. F*ck me that was exhausting... I had to bike to three different bars before I found one with our game and wasn't packed with plastic red manc scum or gooners. Nicky Butt MOM? - no chance. He played well but his lack of confidence in his team mates actually unsettles the team. He goes back and forth between anonymity and wanting to do it all. When we were under the cosh he was continuously running into our defenders, consistantly getting in the way of our other players who may have had teh situation under control. When we are playing well (as a team) Butt is less intrusive - I would like to see more vocal leadership rather than the Given Sheaerer mould of dark looks and muttering.... that said he does play better with Emre (apparently) than Parker. Our CBs were falling apart and Babayaro was having a nightmare. Solano again giving instruction to the back four and the only one with an ounce of composure after we went 2-1 down. If Carr played today we would have lost 4-0. Solano does the job and despite what people have said has done decent in the air and can tackle - also gets cynical when needed. The deflection was not his fault - Nobby is my MOM. Emre was overall very good and can not be faulted for the stagnation that ocurred in midfield when we were aimless in the latter stages of the 1st half. Zoggy and Milner are confidence players, Butt gets in teh way and Emre is forced to pick up the massive amount of slack left over. More of this please. Martins can not keep posession and does nto seem to be able to pick out Milner or Zoggy when they are free... dunno why? He needs to be better in the posession game and learn a few tricks from Sibierski who in my opinion was excellent today. Overall this was a confidence game. Reading are used to winning games and you could tell they way they played that they fully expected three points when the game started - when they had teh lionshare of posession but we were composed and hit them with Sibbers goal they fell apart. When they hit us back - we fell apart. This game was all about belief.
  19. I still remember the LC losses at St. Andrews. I predict we'll lose 2-1, there will be dodgy decisions going against us and we'll have our keeper sent off. In other optimistic news I say Chopra with a hattrick against the Spurs...
  20. In the past many North American Toon fans have posted times and channels. Who knows if that is still allowed?

    Owen on SSN

 Again with Owen as pacey lad comment. Dave is right: Owen is not a pacey striker. Despite his small size he is not quick; its his positioning and finishing that makes him remarkable - he is the new Gary Lineker. Martins would be a good compliment because HE is pacey - also despite his small size Martins is not half bad in the air - he can jump and he can win headers. Luque-Owen would be the worst possible combination we could make up because neither of them create moevemnt up front, but instead respond to others around them. If both of them played we might as well put two staues up front - both would be waiting for the other to do something. Pointless anyway - I doubt Owen will play for us again. He'll get fiit just in time for the Summer and someone will come in with an offer and he'll be off.
