Andy O'Brien played a few games, I mentioned the first two that came to mind and didn't go into much detail or I could have also mentioned Pattison, McClen, Hamilton, Chopra, Carr, Quinn etc. All managers have to field players who are not first choice. We were on about the side that finished 3rd, Mick. Chopra, Pattison, McClen, Hamilton, Carr and Quinn are names you picked from thin air - or from later or earlier periods. 4th and 3rd really. Even the side that finished 3rd had some dross or average players. For me, this is our strongest squad since then and several of our players would get into Sir Bobby's side if I were picking them. For definite I'd put Ben Arfa in for Solano and Colo in for O'Brien. Krul and Santon also make cases for inclusion. Solano was a much better all round player than Ben Arfa for me, and Given better than Krul.

If people want to get all ethical about it and what they do, alcohol has blighted the lives of literally millions of more people than Wonga ever has/will, and we were proud to have the Blue Star on our shirt. Same goes for any team sponsored by a betting company. Not that I want Wonga, but just saying.

There is, but when you put the postcode into the sat-nav, you get to the destination only to find a derelict house in Pennywell. Then the sat-nav voice pipes up "I see you are still having no luck finding me..." Tremendous.

The report found "no evidence of an government trying to conceal the truth".

Great post. As someone who visited that ground in the 80's and experienced crushing, and as someone who saw the way South Yorkshire Police treat all football fans, the outcome is of no great surprise. I'm sure there were a small number of drunk and ticketless fans there, but that would have been the same story with any big club in that era, but it has been proven beyond doubt that this was not the cause. What more do people want? I also think that the FA's part in this should be called int I question. Firstly, they awarded the tie to a ground with known problems and with no valid safety certificate. Once they had made that choice, they then made the ludicrous decision of putting the Liverpool fans in that end, when they ( due to their far bigger support), should have allocated the Kop End.

F*ck that! Slashed everyone in the bar who was having a quiet drink. It was a really bad incident. I don't think it was that bad, but they definitely slashed a couple of people outside, including a bloke who was waiting to go fishing.

As mentioned by Tsunami, the New Year's Day derby game was the worst racism I've ever heard at SJP. Their 2 blacks lads were sent off and got dogs abuse, some of the songs being sung were an absolute disgrace. Definitely not our finest hour. I was there at the petrol bomb game agaisnt the Hammers, and also at Zoots a few years later when they supposedly got their revenge......although anyone who has seen the Cass Pennant film, it was nowt like that. I've seen some pretty bad stuff from our lot on the road (Carlisle, Ashby de la Zouch, Wakefield etc. etc.) and also the parrot on the fire at Barnsley (iirc) wasn't exactly what you call PC. I'm glad I got to experience those times, but wouldn't go back for anything.

Just booked up for Bruges today, so actually feeling good. No big losses, settled team, Ben Arfa, Colo, Cisse etc, a capable manager, plenty to look forward to this season. Would have liked a couple of extra players but hey ho. Some of these fuckers don't know they're born.

Agree with this 100%, a load of sentimental nonsense is talked about the 80's football experience. Whilst I agree with the sentiment, there was a passion and edginess about going to the game in those days that we'll never see again. Glad I got to see it and experience the lows that puts today's NUFC into perspective sometimes.

Good luck to him, hopefully he'll get a job soon.

Worst team to ever win the CL by some distance, they would shame Wimbledon. At least that cunt Terry didn't get to captain them I suppose. -
Barton in total fucking idiot shocker.

Will we qualify for the Champions League? Sadly not...

To a 90,000 seater in Kingston Park. Surgeon Hall once wanted to build a super stadium at Lamesley for both NUFC and SAFC to share. Wasn't it some American/Canadian millionaire who first wanted to do this, long before Hall got involved?

Look at me, look at me, I'm dying. Pathetic. Joking aside, puts it all into perspective really. Hope he gets to see them win.

Thats if they had any intenetion of selling the rights in the first place, Ashley is probably happy to have millions of pounds worth of free advertising for his tat emporium for years to come. Hardly free given what he's shelled out so far, the interest free loans must be saving the club approx £8M a year.

It looks like Arthur Cox.

Note: Not in the 70s or 80s, but in the Premier League era Done.

Great post Otter, couldn't agree more.......especially the bit about the last 3 years. Surely even the most passionate of Ashley haters, must now agree that the club is in an infinitely better shape than the one he bought?
