I think the key issue is his confidence towards our defenders --- particularly Williamson. It is not a coincidence that we 99% play long balls when Williamson is there because he is a fucking liability when facing counter attack. Last season we actually gained a lot of points when we play a very compact 442 during the first half, and even if we started to use 433, our first choice defenders and keeper were all available except Saylor. Pardew's magic is his work on our defense, and that he is actually lucky to have only Saylor as our long term absentee last season. In fact Pardew knows how shit our defense is this year, that's why he continues to go for a direct 442 to protect the defense line. This is still his top priority. Only if we are losing and force to get a goal back, we would try something else. I think he has to accept the fact that the defense line is hopeless and the only way we can win is to score more than the opponents, rather than grinding them out. Ultimately I lay the blame on the transfer last summer. We should definitely sign a more centre back and one more left back. Pardew's hand is tied --- and probably Ashley know this and that's why giving out a 8 years contract.

I would say the players should share more blame than Pards. For example, Saylor should never miss that header that caused us a goal behind during last match, the 2 strikers were performing way below par, Cabaye gone MIA, Anita still settling in...not everything is due to tactical errors. In fact we played a lot more open than last season already. Certainly Pards has to make good use of the break and fix the team asap, but I didn't lose any faith in him after these 3 matches. I can still see a lot of positives from certain players.

We have Ba and Cisse an nobody else up front. Honestly we still have Shola who is a "decent" cover. I may have bias but 10m+ for Carroll is never a good deal. I'd rather spend 5-6m on some unproven striker in France. 10m+ for Carroll is definitely a panic buy. Shola is a crock of s*** and is never fit. We've shipped out Best and Lovenkrands and won't play Xisco and Ranger. The latter 3 are non-existent. Best's place could be replaced by Adam. If we are going to play 4-3-3 as suggested by the majority of the board, we actually have enough player to play the striker role. The only problem occurs at next February which I dont think spending 15m for just that month is a good idea. Anyway, as usual, this decision will only be proven correct 1 year later, just like how we sold Carroll.
