We spent £60m on a striker that scored 6 goals the season prior. We spent £35m on a 19 yo fullback with 12 senior appearances. We spent £45m on a PL winger with 4 PL goals in his career. We spent £40m on a pacy 21 yo fullback with only 1 season of PL football and fresh off an ACL return. We used to back our judgement on ability, attitude and squad fit.

It’s one of the worst windows of all time imo. Worse than the Bale 6 imo. Theres no Christian Eriksen. Ramsey is Lamela mind.
-
I 100# agree. It’s a disaster so far. So bad if we sold him im afraid it would be worse than his £11m amortisation and wages cost.

Endrick. we’ve debated this before. I think loans are fine if they benefit us. Everything is negotiable. im naming players i like but im not a scout. Factually there are top players moving to clubs every window. We signed some purples under Ashley and we will do so again. We neee the club operating at the level we used too where we signed top quality players 4 windows in a row. We signed 4 midfielders and attackers and none are better than Anthony Gordon or Harvey Barnes. There’s massive room for improvement man.

They both look like woeful players so I hear you. My cope is that I think Elanga can become Murphy effective if he keeps his game simple. Murphy had 2 yeara of good form. Elanga fan run fast, he can shoot and he can put in good crosses. He can maximise that. Wissa? I’m just praying that it clicks somehow. I don’t even know what he’s meant to be good at tbh
-
I think Elanga could eventually do a job. But also fine with cutting our losses if we can cut them well enough. We need a RW regardless
-
Quality players go to non-top 6 or European giants every season if we had bought Semenyo in the summer things would be different. Kid from Madrid was available on loan. Could’ve given us a nice little boost. But we don’t do loans.
-
He’s a decent player no doubt. But he wasn’t what was needed. Agreed on Elanga. I never paid him much attention for a full 90 minutes prior. But I too I’m shocked that scouts watched him play multiple full games and thought we should sign him. Similar to Antony from Man U - you could see from game 1-3 he didn’t have the technical and mental ability to be a top 6 pl player that starts. Just not of the level. £20-30m as a squad player is fine. But never at £55m.
-
That was my issue with the Ramsey transfer. I thought we needed someone that could bench Joelinton and take meaningful minutes away from Bruno and Tonali without dropping quality massively. We didn’t get that player. We didn’t even really try either.
-
We just need ‘purples’. Give us 3 quality players any position and we’ll be transformed. As in Tonali level minimum. Doesn’t matter where we need quality.
-
Clearly. inaction is an action itself. His job is not merely to sign players/deal with contracts - it’s to provide a squad for the long term. He didn’t even manage 1 key contract renewal. He didn’t make 1 class signing. I believe the Isak contract refusal. And I do belief that was the catalyst for the summer. If Isak was so keen on leaving the next summer he would’ve negotiated a release clause with that contract. Would’ve been much better placed than we ended up.

Financial Fair Play / Profit & Sustainability
The College Dropout replied to Mattoon's topic in Football
They have to make the league fair and sustainable by selling Morgan Rogers to the top 6. -
It gives me a little chuckle. And the moment it’s no longer relevant I’ll be delighted.

We’ll win the next 2.

Awful game that earlier. I like Arsenal as a club but these can’t win the CL
-
Lost his confidence too

I remember how much NO loved Vurnon Anita. Absoute bobbins

You’re talking about end product for a season (or two tops) but did they actually look like good players? Did they have genuine pedigree? Wissa 1 great season 1 good season in terms of end product. But has he ever looked a top player in waiting? Elanga - is similar. Not sure who the 3rd is. Ramsey? A rotation player for Villa and he’s the same here. A lot of money for that. Apart from Elanga - I didn’t expect any of these to be better than what we had last season. Elanga and Wissa are worse than expected.
-
It looked a poor window at the time and it’s looked a worse window now.
-
I disagree but I also don’t care it’s a shit signing anyway

Go on then...Rate the January 2026 Transfer Window

It’s also how we got Bruno Tonai Isak Hall Livra etc. -
And tbh my major point is the whole window was badly managed and executed.

After failing to keep Isak and failing to land Pedro, Delap, Etikite, Sesko and Strand Larsen. He’s a panic signing.
