  1. I’ve made an indifferent start. And now I want Foden.
  2. In the sense the players job is to play for their clubs. The clubs pay their salary and are their literal employers. They are selected to represent their country and can be dropped at any time. There’s no obligation either way. The England manager position is a literal job. Employment rights and laws etc. and obligations. Random: I swear I saw Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in the England coaching setup at the Euros.
  3. It’s looking bleak. I’m a big fan of the lad.
  4. Managing England is a job. Playing for England isn’t.
  5. Less DGWs this season. And a new unknown chip. Haaland (H) against any bottom half team is a TC candidate imo. Wildcard into Bench boost is best DGW route. Or a free hit alternative.
  6. It might/should be illegal to mandate a football job be given to a British person. Playing is different aye.
  7. Did they even try? With him existing he’s still a factor. The lack of viable English coaches is a massive factor too. I would’ve been tempted to give it Carsley just because.
  8. The only viable English manager was Howe. Maybe Potter. Potter vs Tuchel is almost a philosophical choice. 1 is better qualified . The other is likely to be a better cultural fit (including personality here). Eddie would be the standout. Managed at every level of the English game. Prefers British based players and has a modern style that is also very British at the same time. As much pedigree as 90% of international managers in modern club football. If not him there’s big sacrifice to make. And they sacrificed nationality and depth of knowledge of the English game.
  9. Release clause. We have a high wage bill that keeps increasing. Also have a high amortisation carry over. We’ve sold 2 out of our 3 known ‘wonderkids’. If we want to rebuild we’ll need to raise significant funds. Unless we change tact with sponsorships that will mean sales.
  10. Less to do with Minteh. More to do with Bruno being at peak value and us needing the revenue. £100m + a few smaller sales would be enough for a bit of a rebuild. Unless something changes significantly. We’ll have to sell Crown Jewels eventually. So it’s about getting top dollar for them, selling at the right time and investing it wisely. If there’s a plan to increase revenues by £80m within the next year then no. We keep him as long as we want. But if we keep doing what we’re doing and the rules don’t change significantly. Sell high, buy low that will gain in value, rinse & repeat has to be the model. The RB, Dortmund model. The problem with our current position and PSR is we can be bullied into selling for Lower fees. That happened to us with Minteh already. Our wage bill continues to increase.
  11. Think the points deduction is a red line. But I share the sentiment that his profile + underlying data put him on a high class CL trajectory. If he continues to develop it will be no surprise if he becomes a £60m+ player. Which is why I was dead set against selling him if possible - but it wasn’t possible. I would’ve preferred to sell Bruno for £100m, Joelinton, Anderson, Gordon for 90m etc. but Gordon for £60m or a points deduction is my line.
  12. It’s the same system now. The untouchables. 6-8 teams with current ownership. The unlikelies. The bulk of the rest. the yo-yo’s. happy to be here. When was the last newly promoted club to establish themselves in the PL without parachute payments from previously being in the PL? Forest who got a points deduction. And Brentford who are over powered in the transfer market via data analytics. The happy to be there’s want to become yo-yo sides. Yo-yo’s want to become unlikelies like Palace. It’s pretty rare for the unlikelies to invest enough and grow to become untouchable without a change in ownership. The existing gap is so big. That’s the primary reason Everton haven’t been relegated.
  13. Viana has apparently landed the City gig. Replacing Txiki who I assume is retiring. When Txiki was brought in, many thought it laid the foundations of getting in Pep. Could be similar thing with Viana and Amorim. Viana wasn’t even good for us. But I reckon most fans would’ve been happy to have someone with a connection to the club as SD. I’ve no strong opinion on Mitchell but I would’ve loved a well qualified ex-player.
  14. They said Pickford is better than Pope.
  15. Funny thing is. City are acting like the feds aiming to bleed out the Mafia brick by brick. Small wins and the cost of legal fees will bring the whole house down. There won’t be an appetite to amend the rules to count loans at commercial rates by clubs. Wider changes will be needed. Meanwhile City keep bleeding the PL financially. Through lawyer fees and damages fees. At some point the PL will end up capitulating to some degree.
  16. This is all illegal. And it would finish elite football in the NE. There’s 8m people in Greater London. The competition and the culture between the kids there would have Fulham and QPR way ahead of Newcastle.
  17. There's a world where we sign Guler you know.
  18. Arsenal Liverpool Spurs Man U Brighton Palace We think?
  19. Aye. They will try and find another route to stop us. But these piece will have to be repealed or severely relaxed.
  20. Nah. Leicester had massive wages. Brighton don’t. Brighton wages are like bottom 10. And until this summer, they didn’t reinvest the profits in the summer. Kasper Schmeichel, Vardy etc. all on good wedge at the time. Brighton don’t have players on 6 figures a week. Even this summers splurge the highest wages will be £80k odd. We are handing out megabuck salaries. Brighton would have sold Bruno, Joelinton and Gordon rather than give them megabuck contracts.
  21. Ashley had a 50m loan with us at some point. I think it was repaid as part of the sale? That might be why other clubs do it. To raise funds we seem to put funds into the shares
  22. So FMV stays but the clubs don’t need to justify it. This is a win but a smallish one. The loan thing is a bigger win imo. It sinks a number of clubs. I assume some general rules will be relaxed.
  23. While I agree with this. 2 clubs have won the PL without having a top 3 wage budget in the 25 years. Arsenal and Leicester. Football has long been dominated by money. I don’t think any clubs should get a monopoly. If there’s a financial ceiling it should be for all.
