I don't think a striker is a priority atm, even though I could think of a negative or two about each who currently holds that position; if they don't get good service they won't score so many. It's creativity in midfield we lack, that and a consistent team/gameplan would see considerable changes in fortune in quite a short period of time. (Better add the obligatory imo.)

Ashley: Drink? SA: Sure.. Ashley: What about Dom Perignon SA: You have a scout report?

The thing that's beginning to get to me a bit is that all these quoted observers who criticize the fans for their expectations have all got the wrong end of the stick as to why the fans are unhappy. Why is there no-one to speak for us and put the matter in it's proper context. It's not immediate success we crave and lambast the mananger for the lack of. It's the style of goddamn play, we're like a championship side just promoted and trying to survive out first season, content to regard a finishing position above the relegation zone as a good result for the season.

brilliant Except it's not an anagram. Only one N in Michael Owen.

Bit like yourself then He's actually one of the better writers there are, and a canny bloke as well. He is and I don't doubt he's a canny bloke but it's kind of hard to agree with someone when you know they're coming at something with an agenda, i.e. something to sell and a personal dislike of the manager that stems back years. Not saying he's not entitled to have his say or that he's wrong in what he says as he obviously speaks for a large number who share his views, but I prefer to see balanced and unbiased views, especially from fellow Mags in the national media. All he's doing is adding to the hyperbole in my opinion. What fan of Newcastle, including you, can write with a balanced and inbiased view of a subject close to their heart? We are shaped by our beliefs and coloured by our opinions. It will be inherent in anything you write however much you care to believe otherwise. Only if you know you can withdraw to a mighty distance and view things in a detatched fashion can you argue otherwise.

HTT: If we don't now sign him, this to me suggests the board aren't backing the manager meaning he'll be gone pretty soon. You're kidding, right?
-
Can't believe he's really sure he's speaking for everyone else.
-
Owen, shows commitment and passion all the time.... for his horses.
-
I think you've got your answer HTT, the general consensus seems to be plain enough. Sam could win us over by putting out a team that is clearly trying to win games by outscoring the opposition.

I'm going to repeat what others have already said but I believe it needs repeating a hundred times so that it is finally listened to and understood. It's not the fact we lose but the manner in which we lose that is wearing out the patience fast.

Lose his stubborn streak and concede that setting out to nullify your opponent should come second to trying to score against them. At the moment he seems to be hoping to capitalize on something whilst keeping a clean sheet. Communication would be nice too, he seemed to talk sense every time he opened his mouth at the beginning but increasingly it's all defensive twaddle. If we knew what he was trying to do we'd be far more understanding and patient. We might even understand what he says, we're not all the same as the Sky version of us.

Watching Youtube clips he looks all right, but of course that's just 5 minutes of football showing the times where he got it right.

What you guys doing in S. Korea? Can you get me a job there?
-
My Dad (not at all tongue in cheek), said "fuck the lot of them, I can't be arsed with that club anymore" My Dad (tongue down his throat) has just choked to death, club's finally done him in.

Barton reminds me of an out of control car careering downhill and lurching from one accident to the next. Unfortunately this club pays the insurance and is liable for all the damage.

Dalglish, less than 4 months at Celtic after over 2 years out of the game since leaving Newcastle. Gullit, 5 years out of management after leaving Newcastle before a failed season at Feyenoord. Currently LA Galaxy celebrity manager. My point was they weren't exactly hot property after their careers ended here. So in our search for the next manager how many would be put off by the track record of hiring and firing that went on here. One thing I am pretty sure of, if Mort and Ashley set about finding a new manager they're unlikely to make a mistake and he will be given time. I'm looking forward to it already.
-
Just struck me, reading that, off-topic. I wonder how many managers have never really worked again (to date) in management after being sacked by Newcastle. Dalglish, Gullit, Souness, any more?

This season 12th to 14th is looking increasingly the more likely.

Pissing myself here, lad hasn't even signed on the dotted line yet and he's shite already.

Was it Cloughie who said 'It's not rocket science is it..' I said a couple of months ago Sam had his head so far into statistics now that he had forgotten the simple things. Need a Back to Basics campaign here, get the dossiers out.

He needs an hour long session with his own clinical psychologist after comments like that.. "It was a poor performance - we couldn't cope with Wigan being high-tempo and hard-working. "Some of our players have not lived up to their reputation. "The front players have not held the ball up and the creative players have not created. Today the appetite to beat the opposition was not there. I'm not happy to have my future in their hands. Firstly how the hell can you admit they couldn't cope with the tempo of the game. If the other side is dictating the tempo it's your job as manager to change things on the pitch and sort it. And this was Wigan tempo, god forbid what happens when it's Manyoo tempo. There is no secondly. Thirdly, I am getting increasingly concerned with his apparent inability to hold his own hands up and admit some culpability. It's not the first time we've seen this level of confused sunday park football. All these players knew how to play before he got here or, if he signed them, before they got here. He must have had some input on the current shambles we're watching. Just hold your hands up Sam and admit the current players are not adapting to your tactics, and as the competitive fixtures of the PL is not the place to continue experimenting just get back to basics for now and let them play. Get the players you need in the next window, but in the meantime don't blame the players for their inability to follow your instructions when presumably you work with them week in week out in training and can see what is being taken in and what is not. Work with what you've got, don't try and make something that isn't there when there are 3 points at stake every week.
