Why preferably Bent? We have Cisse and Remy, two different strikers and Gomis would be another different option. Bent's just a poor mans Cisse so he's not a different option, plus he's older than Gomis. He seems like the worst option we could go for now.

Any idea if their's going to be any TV for this game? EDIT: Apparently its live on Sport TV1 in Portugal, so if I can't get the day off to go I can at least watch that.
-
Yeah forget about Ba, he's walked out once and that's it for me, I'd prefer Gomis.
-
Cheers, might not be here for long then. He'll be here for the season, if he is charged it'll be at least 6 months before a trial. Ridiculous time in those sort of things. We might just send him back though. Maybe but I don't see why, even if he's charged that doesn't make him guilty.

Not mentioned at all in the Official site article so maybe we don't? Was it mentioned when we signed Hatem? Not officially AFAIR, just in the press. The press are all reporting a fee agreed and also he has a release clause anyway.
-
Are you replying to me there? Like I said I'm not even talking about center back pairings. By the way I don't see it as a fact that Yanga-Mbiwa is "one of the weakest center backs in the league", I mean you're basing that on several appearances in his debut season. I've no doubt Pardew will play Coloccini and Taylor (until he's inevitably injured) no matter what any of us think BTW.
-
Taylors like half an inch taller than Yanga-Mbiwa. http://www.newcastle-online.org/nufcforum/index.php/topic,93045.msg4525954.html#msg4525954 Aye. I think I'd trust official info over a analysis based on a photo where either person could simply be standing slightly differently. Official info. Mapou's tiny for a CB, it's that simple and it isn't a good idea to partner him with one of the physically (and aerially) weakest CBs in the league. It's a pointless argument anyway because Taylor and Colo are seen as our best combo by Pardew. Oh sorry I didn't realise it was "that simple" I better not argue if you've decided As I said I trust measurements given for him over a dodgy comparison any day. If you have a good comparison showing this huge height difference then I'd change my mind. I've had the discussion about center backs pairings so I'm not really bothered about that.

Did you look at their posture rather then just the top of their heads? Taylors standing with his usual puffed out chest while Yanga-Mbiwa's leaning forward a bit. According to all official info they're 1.86m and 1.84m respectively.

Taylors like half an inch taller than Yanga-Mbiwa (Colocinni's same height as Yanga-Mbiwa).

£2m a year would only be £38k a week, I suppose they must be talking about wages after tax. If so I don't see any chance of us paying him nearly 80k a week. Also £9.5m for his buy out clause?, that's significantly higher than rumoured.
-
Simpson, Harper and Perch out with Remy coming in. You genuinely believe that makes us weaker than last year?
-
is it ? hadn't we agreed on 10mill last january and if anything he's proven himself in the premier a bit. 8m QPR paid i think that's my basis for it being unlikely and his buyout clause being the same. will his clause still be active if,after a season loan, QPR are back in the prem ? Surely we could just activate the clause in January?
-
Well Cabaye and Debuchy are starters and Gomis is almost always a used sub. Fair enough on Sissoko, Yanga-Mbiwa and Remy who are only in the squad sporadically and Ben Arfa who only seems to make major tournaments (might just be down to injuries).
-
was that the one that was over the line but not given? would have made it 2:1? Yeah Cisse header and De Gea got his hand to it but it looked to be behind the line before he cleared it.
-
Yeah he did well there, I was just about to reply to that and wondered why it wasn't letting me, must have been in mid delete
-
6, one was Ba's EDIT: Ah shit too slow.
-
Less likely arguably, but the deal has certainly advanced some way. If we really now have a loan deal agreed with QPR with an option to buy and we're now just waiting for Remy to give the go ahead anyway.
-
He had more than 2, the goal against Sunderland is just one example that stands out.
-
I must have missed all those times we reduced offers we'd had accepted
-
Must resist putting him in my FIFA side!

"While on face value from last season the Lyon forward may have seemed to be the right target, a look further back into the finishing figures suggests Gomis is not the man for the job of restoring success at St. James' Park." This ignores the idea that players can improve. For his last two seasons his goal scoring has been quite consistent at 1 in 2 starts or slightly better.
-
Pretty good goal scorer who's improved quite a bit recently. Always scored a reasonable number of goals, but over the last two seasons he's scored 30 league goals in 58 starts (14 in 29 in 2011/2012 and 16 in 29 in 2012/2013).

They're claiming its been confirmed from our end as well though. I assume that's were there own source comes in.
