I agree. But in a way doesn't this defeat the point of signing him? Because if he's just going to shift from Man Utd's bench to our bench, then he's not going to get anymore experience and he's not going to improve. In which case we might as well have kept Routledge, who was cheaper. Unless we plan on putting Barton on the bench and playing Obertan instead. Despite Routledge being a backup player he still would have gotten plenty of games here if Pardew had any confidence in him at all.

We could do this all day I just think you probably overate Routledge, how many times have you seen him play in the Premier League?

Of course there are cut off points, but if we were aiming to sign a player for around £40k then the cut off point being £45k is incredibly unlikely.

I'll punch myself in the balls if Routledge is better than Obertan in the Premiership, not a fucking chance mate. I think you've been watching too much of Routledge in the Championship.. Obertan mostly played against league cup teams and poor European opposition though. I may as well have been watching him in the Championship, and he was still brutal. Nah this isn't the same as watching a normal player in the Championship and extrapolating how well he'd do at a higher level considering his attributes. Routledge simply can't play in the Premier League, he just can't do it mentally. If he could handle it mentally he'd be a good player, but as it is he's basically pointless in this league.

Happy with this signing on a permenant, I would have been wary on loan. But if we've got him for £2-3m on a reasonably cheap long term contract its a very good deal IMO. Could end up a class player, if not he wouldn't be hard to move on.

It's not even that this potential signing is particularly underwhelming (although I've not been overly impressed on the admittedly rare occasions I've seen him play but hope that's down to a lack of chances at Old Trafford rather than potential ability), it's the frustrating fact that we've needed at least two quality centre forwards since January yet here we are a week before the start of the season and we're still waiting. Did you miss the signing of Ba? Did you miss the bit where it says two quality centre forwards? Ok, the way you said it seemed to suggest you were still waiting for two quality center forwards.. Nah, I rate Ba as a quality centre forward, but beyond that we're woefully light in quality if not numbers. Imagine having to rely upon a forward line of Lovenkrands/Ameobi the 1st for any length of time? Yeah we definitely need one more striker in, someone of a similar quality to Ba. As long as we get that player before the window shuts I'll be happy.
