Yeah if he was 24 then I could see £20 million at a stretch, but for a 28 year old!
-
He's worth about half that IMO, £12 million would have been fair.

Come on then, what's your spiel on Coloccini?

They've signed two players mackems.gif Verge of signing Diouf and Malbranque and Kaboul remain big possibilities. If they manage to get even 2 out of these 3 signed, they will have over-done themselves for this transfer window. On the verge means nowt as you know, its just hilarious that the likes of shithead are bigging up everything Sunderland do. If they're so much as linked with a player then its as good as them signing him and there team has improved 1000%. They've actually signed two players, we've signed two players. But at this rate they're going to catch us up apparently.. they need not do much catching up to do considering our poor quality of our squad. frankly, will be happier if we swapped signings. ours are very much a gamble while theirs are proven players in the prem league. but what an exciting derby it will be.....can see them signing some more shrewd signings with an ambitious Quinn on helm. Total bollocks, there miles behind us. Also if we'd swapped signings you'd be complaining about Chimbonda and Tianio and wishing we'd signed that fantastic Argentine international you've seen a wonder DVD of and Danny "the next Rob Lee" Gurthrie

It was already rumoured earlier that the Spuds had outbid our initial offer. There's no actual quotes confirming the Spuds offer though, the only quotes I know of are from Depor saying we've enquired.

This forums gone to the dogs. To many negative tossers and wums...

for 2.5m i think i was worth it. and chimbonda is also a player which we should have signed especially after KK admitting that the LB,RB positions are the ones where there isnt enough cover. i rate chimbonda and i think he is really good player and he is versatile also. Pitty that we missed on him but nothing new on the front. just typical newcastle united. We need right back and left back cover, not first team right or left backs, we already have them. Brining in Chimbonda on 70,000 per week as a backup would be completely mental. We've missed f*** all here.. So if we sign someone with the potential of Stephen "f***ing" Carr and suddenly Beye is injured for 6 months, then we'll have really adeqaute cover at RB,a? I get your point though and i think you have some right, but it would be very difficult to find someone who will be on low wage, who will be with the potential of newcastle and will be willing to be 2nd choice player. I think the best thing is to have 2 players for every position with no any enormous difference between the qualities of this 2 players. Also Chimbonda can play at every position in the defence so basically we missed someone who can play at RB,CB,LB. I think we need this type of versatile players. If Chimbonda was willing to be a rotation player on decent wages then I'd agree. But as it is he's an arrogant player who will demand to be first team every week (which is a problem because he's not better then what we already have in any position he plays in) and will apparently be on anywhere between £65,000-£80,000 per week at Sunderland. As a player he would interest me, but his attitude makes him the wrong player for us IMO.

What's that got to do with making money available though? Also to be honest losing the likes of Emre and Rozenhal leaves us needing just as many new players as before they left considering Rozenhal was out on loan and Emre never played. well there is money there, if there wasn't keegan would be out in shot yes, but there we're still our players, so we could of used them next season, we got rid of another 5 players as well, even though i wouldn't of had them in the first team, they could be used for when injuries happen i hope the club isn't banking on clubs to reduce their transfer terms when the end of the window happens, risky business Rozehnal was a player we could have used as backup yes, but he obviously wasn't happy with that role. Emre we couldn't have used next season because the man either can't or didn't want to play for us, he made 8 starts last season... 8!! well it depend's what positions do you think we need FIRST TEAM players for, we have imo a very decent first team, but we need backup as there's hardly none? we need at least 2 more defenders, a playmaker and a striker imo how many do you think? I think we need a central defender, young backup left and right backs, top quality attacking midfielder and a backup striker. That requirement hasn't changed since losing the likes of Emre, Rozenhal, Carr, Babayaro ect. Partly because none of those players actually played for us when they were here, and partly because they weren't good enough (with the acception of 8 games a season Emre ).

Who says he hasn't given him the money to spend? Have we not had a 7 million bid for Aimar recently?, £16 million for Modric, £9 million for Woodgate and of course whatever its cost us to sign Guthrie and Jonas as well as numerous other unconfirmed bids for players. This may be a case of we will offer 9mill even though the club asked for 15mill, we can look like we are making bids when we know fine well our offer will not be accepted. Making bids is not spending money, signing players thats spending the dosh. Yeah okay we should not be held to ransom by other clubs over players just because we have lots of cash, but on the other hand we need players and if you want a player a club wats to keep then they have the final say. Lets not start with the pretendy bid conspiracy theories.. Our bids for Woodgate, Modric and Aimar were accepted and while others weren't they were all genuine bids, there's no point in making them otherwise. Especially when we've done all we can to keep our transfer business private. BTW my point is money being available to spend and actually spending it are not the same thing.. Unless you go out and blow it for no reason other then to prove its there.. which is completely pointless. That's why it grinds on me when people keep harping on about Ashley needing to make money available soon, as if the hold up in transfer business is because Ashley's looking down the couch for his cheque book..

http://www.tribalfootball.com/article.php?id=104191 we will be playing in front of 40,000 - 45,000 max next season, ashley needs to start putting more money in, or he could lose the lot Firstly that's a "article" in the mirror, I think I've said enough there But if its anywhere near true then on the positive side that means I'll be able to get to games whenever I want
-
Why do people have this delusion that Ashley is just sitting around waiting to "open his cheque book" and if he did that players would fly through the door Not signing a new player recently does not mean Ashley's making no money available.. No matter how much money is available we still need teams to accept bids for the players we want and then convince them to come here, its not a case of "right Kev there's £50 million I want to see three top players at the club by tomorrow".

How does "looking" to bring in Downing improve their team for f*** sake?.. Some on here need to get a grip, as usual. Bigging up Sunderland when so far all they've done is sign a very average midfielder and a good right back. Two players we shouldn't have any interest in at all. As for the players they have bids in for, only Malbranque would interest me as a potential Newcastle player. He's a good quality midfielder and is still only 28, so he'd be a good signing.
-
I'd be happy if Owen accepted the same 33% cut, doubt we'll ask for 90% though
-
If its based on payments per game then obviously some weeks he'd earn more and others he'd earn less depending on how many games in that week (in a lot of them there'd be none). At the end of the day Newcastle United played about 40 something games last season, less then there are weeks in a year so... If he helps us get into Europe that's more games and more money for him.. I'm sure they can work out a way of doing this that suits both parties, but however they do it IMO his contract should be based on performance.
-
If Cuellar was so great in La Liga then why did he move to Rangers, and for only £2.4 million? Genuine question..
-
You're just thinking about it the wrong way that's all Tooj. If this was Owen saying "I want £20,000 on top of my wages just to step onto the pitch" then I'd agree. Instead its (if it happens that is) the club taking his current wage and making chunks of it contingent on appearances and goals. For a player with injury problems who's purpose is to score goals that's a brilliant deal for the club if we pulled it off.
-
What figures do you suggest then? You have to remember that Owen is currently on £105,000 no matter what. He's not going to accept a pay cut, so any performance based contract we offer him has to be one that he believes can realistically earn him the same he's on now (if he believes he's over his injuries ect).
-
So you'd prefer to pay the player that £20,000 wether they were fit or not then? Try to get past this "but we're paying him just to be fit" thing Tooj. The idea is merely to take the wage that the player currently gets up front (£105,000 in this case) and split it up based on performance to ensure we get value for money. He gets a basic that's significantly less then the wage he wants, another chunk of it on appearances and the final part per goal. This ensures that he will only get his full wage if he's fit to play every single game and bangs the goals in.
-
Sorry but your just not thinking before you post, which is annoying.
