They should have kept coming at us when they were 2-1 up, even with ten men they could have won. Instead they sat back and let us take the game to them. Bad decision, presumably by their manager. One offside was blatantly obvious in real time, the other was clearly offside when viewed from a replay. Amazing to get both your way when it takes us three blatant fouls in the area to get one pen. Based on two good results?, could have said the same after our little run against much better sides.

Didn't we pay about £10m for Cabella and agreed to sell him for £5.8m a season later, that's not a fair chunk back IMO. We've then spent £13m on Thauvin, and what will we get back realistically from Marseille just 6 months later?, not close to £13m, they can't afford that kind of money.

Pires had the backing of Wenger and he presumably wanted to stay in England. McClaren clearly doesn't rate Thauvin at all and it looks like Thauvin doesn't really want to be here either. Either we have to sack off McClaren or sack off Thauvin. If it's down to Charnley there's only going to be one winner. Even IF he wants to leave, we don't have to let him go immediately. Ask him to wait until the summer and have a word with McClaren about giving him a few games ASAP. Its not a case of picking the team for McClaren either, just suggesting to the manager that its a waste of money to spend £13m on someone if he won't even try him. Doesn't have to happen now either, just need McClaren to have a word with the player and tell him that as soon as he can he's going to get him a few games in a row to show what he can do, give him a few assurances. Yep good point, played a similar amount of games to Thauvin his first season and was absolute shit when he did play. But they kept him, gave him more consistent starts the following season and he improved, and improved again this season.

Well then we need to show some balls and tell the lad to at least wait until the end of the season and tell him he'll get a run of games before that. Unless Marseille are willing to cancel the entire deal and give us our money back I think its completely mental. We're wary of spending money and haggle over a couple of million at times but we're fine with buying a player for £13m and letting him go for fuck all half a season later when he decides he doesn't fancy it. I'm all for bringing in a player who we know is effective in the league in place of Thauvin, because we're in trouble and we need someone we know can do it to get us out of it. But the thing is Townsend isn't that player, he's a never has been in the Premier League. I mean Townsend might very well turn up and find his feet here, but given how poor he's been in this league over the years its a big gamble and we aren't looking for gambles. We already have the option of a gamble by just letting Thauvin have some consecutive game time. What we need is someone who has shown they're good enough and Townsend hasn't.

Thauvin could easily be better if given a chance. I'm not sure why we should even assume he's any good, he's been as much a failure in this league over the past few seasons as Thauvin has this season. One half decent half season for QPR back in 2013 and we're supposed to assume he's automatically going to be better than what we have?, why? Much though I would like to have seen Thauvin more, and would like to think he could improve, I can't really blame McClaren for not playing him. When he's started he's generally given the ball away far too easily. Add to that that he clearly doesn't relish the pace of the English game and it's pretty hard to argue he should be persisted with. He's actually looked better at times coming off the bench but he hasn't been given enough time their either. Often only getting 10 minutes or far less. He's had a total of 4 full games of playing time since he arrived and all of that has been sporadic starts and subs, never getting anything close to consistent game time. Its just not acceptable IMO to make a judgement based on that, its a total waste of time paying big money for a player if you don't even give him as much as 3 or 4 full matches in a row before deciding he isn't good enough.

We get nowt in our game, they get a helping hand with a incredible dodgy sending off and two offside goals allowed Still they'd lost 5 in a row before getting these two wins, they could easily go on that kind of run again, far from out of it.

Anita's made twice as many tackles per game, twice as many interceptions, more clearances and less fouls and Anita isn't even a very useful player himself. I don't get this idea that Tiote is a useful player, he occasionally steps up and has a really good game like he did against Arsenal, so does Anita (very good against Liverpool for instance). But in general he's a liability, gets caught on the ball in crazy areas and sometimes goes through spells where he gives the ball away so often I could have sworn he had to be doing it deliberately. Like I said he will have the odd all action performance, which is why we might actually manage to con someone into paying good money for him. I say take it and move on.
