If Shearer doesn't come in, it's not the end of the world and we might even be better of for it. If he does, and people back it, then it's the icing on the cake.

Don't usually bother with match reports, but I've read a couple of good un's tonight. Martin Samuel in the Times is particularly good and keeps up the positive mood around the place, and Henry Winter does much of the same in the Telegraph. For all that we say the media are against us, there are some writers out there (not necessarily Toon fans, either) who would love it if Keegan could do the business here.
