Asking about a debate in Government time about the future of our national game, guess what Rees Mogg’s answer was:- “ Jacob Rees-Mogg responded on behalf of the Government: "I must confess that the detailed workings of the Football League is beyond my remit and realm of knowledge. Had he asked about the County Championship, I would have been better placed to answer.” "However, I think he should ask his own committee for this debate as it would be very well subscribed and a matter of great interest to many members."...Typical Government Response to a genuine concern and scrutiny.

So apparently Football needs an independent regulator.....so who came up with this lot:- Who is part of the group putting the manifesto forward? David Bernstein - former FA and Manchester City chairman Gary Neville - former England and Manchester United defender Denise Lewis - British former Olympic heptathlon gold medal winner Andy Burnham - Mayor of Greater Manchester David Davies - Former FA executive director Helen Grant - Conservative MP Lord Mervyn King - former Bank of England governor and ex-Aston Villa director Greg Scott - Lawyer And what the hell is the Mayor of Manchester doing in this group apart from representing one of the “big 2”

Has anyone been on RAWK since the announcement from the Premier League...unbelievable...their arrogance is staggering......just a short example of some of the stuff put up....” Quite bizarre that the 'smaller clubs' love attacking Liverpool and Utd, whom without them wouldnt exist in their current form”

Watkins and Barkley....two very astute signings.....nearly relegated but an owner who is providing the funds to make sure they are not going to be involved in this years relegation scrap...sad isn’t it.

With my record......I’ll stay clear of this thread for a while...it’s jinxed enough?

Although i agree that our takeover is trivial(as you point out) compared with the world problems at the moment......Football, never the less, is a major part of our life as we “sleep, eat and drink” every aspect of the clubs (Mis)fortunes. Some of us have been lurking this forum for years and only recently started to contribute, some are relatively new members and some of us are susceptible to every positive tweet we read, be it on this forum, twitter or any other media outlet.....personally I believe every positive tweet i read (to my own cost).....i always appreciate any news that come peoples way, even if it turns out to be a bit ambitious with its authenticity, but I’m sure these folk are quite convinced that they might have some up to date info and wish to share it....its then up to us to decide whether we want to believe it or not.....i like HTT’s long essays, i find them interesting and informative.....HOWEVER i wish he wouldn’t play the “it’s bullshit” tweet after raising our hopes that he might just have some info that might be correct....it’s no good saying “you know me” as a follow up afterwards...the damage has already been done!!......I would like to continue to read this thread in the hope that mebbies, just mebbies, there might just be a takeover before i fall off this “mortal Coil”....SUMMING UP, please people don’t publish you’re “funny” tweets......It’s no longer a joking matter. If you or anyone is damaged by the contents of some random post of mine or anyone else’s for that matter on any platform never mind page 326 of a thread on a NUFC forum dedicated to the subject that is all things related to the takeover, then you’re damaged beyond repair and need to maybe stay away from this topic altogether. I fear for anyone whose world will be crushed if in the next 2 weeks the takeover doesn’t go through which needs to go through after all this now for their sake the most of anyone, even if it’s too late now for any takeover to undo the damage already done. If only I said 14 months and not days instead... what damage I’ve caused man! Unlike you HTT, I actually read ALL of your long tweets(and usually enjoy them)......if you had read the message in my tweet you will have noticed that I am fully committed to all news, however fanciful, about the takeover....I do I find it very difficult not to check in regularly to see if there are any updates, no matter how unlikely the present takeover might be...what I can’t get into my mind is pollsters throwing info into tweets then saying a while later it’s all bullshit and if you know me you know I’m just egging you all on....I’m afraid I don’t know any pollsters enough to know whether they actually may have second, third or fourth hand info or simply enjoy winding up readers......AND no, I’m not going to stop reading this thread.....after all I did ( to my regret) start it all those months ago.

Eventually got a response fro my MP.....decided to use real name Incase she’d ever heard of “Jinky Jim” What did confuse me was a reference to “ I have seen the recent email sent to Newcastle fans from the Independent Football Ombudsman”.....When did that happen.....did i miss it. Dear David, Many thanks for taking the time to write to me. I appreciate that many Newcastle fans were hoping this takeover bid would go ahead and can understand their sense of disappointment. This was entirely a matter for the parties concerned, with no involvement from Government. Ministers did not hold any discussions with sports national governing bodies or sports rights holders on the potential sale of Newcastle United FC. Any sale is a matter for the interested parties, and for the Premier League to assess under its Owners’ and Directors’ Test. I have seen the recent email sent to Newcastle fans from the Independent Football Ombudsman and agree with their conclusion that the Premier League should make a statement on this case. I am pleased that the Ombudsman has committed to advising the Premier League to provide a statement. There must be clarity on why there was a significant delay in a decision being made, and on the reasons why the consortium decided to withdraw their bid. I would like to assure you that Saudi Arabia remains a human rights priority country for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, particularly because of its use of the death penalty and restrictions on women’s rights, freedom of expression, freedom of assembly and freedom of religion or belief. It is right that the UK Government continues to raise its concerns with the Saudi Arabian authorities using a range of Ministerial and diplomatic channels of communication, including its Ambassador and the Embassy team in Riyadh. The Foreign Secretary raised the UK’s concerns with Saudi Arabia during his visit in March this year. I’m sending out a regular newsletter and updates on the COVID-19 crisis, do let me know if you’d like to receive them. Stay well – Alicia Alicia Kearns MP Member of Parliament for Rutland and Melton Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and National Security Strategy Joint Committee

I agree....fuck it

Fuck it......wish I hadn’t started the “futile optimism thread” all those months ago....I wonder if we hadn’t noticed all the stuff in the companies house and let the takeover go on quietly, the PL would have passed it quicker....we shall never know....back to watching paint dry for me....60 years of support and I’m now out.

Perfectly put.....I think a few of us feel the same way.....it’s been the length of the takeover that’s been all consuming....up one minute, down the next.....I always thought I’d try and look positively and that the takeover will happen but bloody hell, it’s been a long and hard ride and even taxing my positive outlook

Interesting Theory in “The Mag” ‘In the last throes of this Newcastle United takeover with now all hurdles removed’ On week 13 of the Newcastle United takeover saga, I wrote an article outlining why it was the Saudi PIF and not the Premier League who were dictating the pace of the takeover. It was pointed out that the Public Investment Fund of the KSA was not an ordinary potential owner. Instead, it had at its disposal an entire Sovereign State to call upon, with all its diplomatic and political clout. So here we now are. The two criteria, pointed out at the time, standing in the way were, the points total for Premier League Survival and the ongoing geopolitical war of words over Piracy. The first hurdle was passed with time to spare and in hindsight, it would seem that triggered the next phase of the takeover. The biggest hurdle being Piracy, was dealt with by passing anti-piracy laws within the KSA, this move satisfied the WTO who in a letter passed to the Premier League, give the thumbs up to KSA. It did not however satisfy Qatar, they continued with their rhetoric and left with few options open to them, effectively threatened to sue the Premier League should the takeover go through. In what I believe to be a legal master stroke that hurdle has now been removed. BeIN Sports have now being held to have broken the competition laws in the KSA, the result of which is they have had their rights to broadcast in the country removed. This is good news on two fronts as far as the Newcastle United takeover is concerned. Firstly, they now have no legal say over the takeover since they now have no involvement in the KSA. Secondly, and more importantly, they have broken the law in another sovereign tate so cannot now take legal action against the Premier League. The case would be thrown out since it is they who have transgressed legally in all of this. We are therefore in the last throes of this Newcastle United takeover with now all hurdles removed. It only remains to say over to you Premier League, let’s get this over the line.

My Abiding memory of big Jack is when he was our manager, I think it was about 1984 season, and we went to QPR to play on their infamous plastic pitch....Chris Waddle scored a hat trick, we went in 4-0 at half time.....QPR scored 3 in the second half, before we added a 5th.....I remember having to leave a few minutes before the end for some reason or other.....by the time I turned on the sports report at 5.....it was 5-5.....Apparently Big Jack, noted for His defensive qualities, was not too pleased.....

How long before the BBC/Guardian/Sun/Mirror/Mail/Express/Times have an article about how this will derail the takeover
