When you consider we’re paying £8m per year for Bruno over the course of his contract then the significance of a couple of places becomes more apparent.
-
As much as I’d love to see Everton go down I can’t understand wanting us to lose.
-
What a load of utter shite that pot system is. Current season tickets holders getting 25% of new STs…The people who already have tickets? Fuck me. Even the pot which directly benefits my position (purchase history pot) is problematic; how many purchases to qualify? Does more purchases equal a higher chance? Free for all is the only fair way. Online ballot. Maybe put x% at the box office and let people camp out for them. And they need to sack the proof reader.

Would be interested to see what the pre season + January spend is for the clubs involved.
-
He said other team mates as well! Could be in for numerous Brazilians/Lyon players.

I just can’t see a scenario where he goes to Brighton and says I’m leaving for Newcastle if they’re safe at the end of the season, if they go down I’ll stick around. Makes no sense whatsoever. The most obvious and logical explanation is backed up by the limited information we have. He’s signed a contract with us, handed in his notice and been immediately put on gardening leave. Brighton would rather pay his wages until November than see him jump to a direct competitor. No tin foil hat required.
-
This makes no sense whatsoever. What would happen in that scenario if we’d gone down? He goes back to work after a 3 month jolly? And what would he stand to gain by revealing that decision to Brighton? Gardening leave is after you accept another job (usually to a competitor) and the employer decides it’s better for you to leave immediately rather than work your notice period. Generally this is to stop you poaching clients across to your new business. He’s accepted the role with us, signed a contract with us & been put on gardening leave by Brighton rather than work his notice period.

All purchases are spread over the length of the contract for FPP purposes. So a 50 mil player on a 5 year contract is a 10 mil loss per year. I believe wages may also be added to the bundle.
-
So it was £800m but as you say there have been changes proposed and not sure what difference they’ll make.
-
Does anyone know what the ball park top spend is with FPP? I’m sure I remember reading in the region of £800m at some point post takeover?
-
If memory serves he was the slightly more progressive of the double pivot so could play alongside a specialist DM in that system.
-
Which ones would you say didn’t apply at the time?
-
No defence necessary. There’s no hierarchy of fans with some more deserving of a ST than others. Some would have you believe there is but it’s bollocks.
-
They’ve said publicly the only limit on spending will be FPP. The only other limit is the ‘evolution not revolution’ mantra which I interpret as minimising the number of personnel changes in one whack to maintain the squad dynamic. I can see them going big on 4 first team players plus a couple more young’uns for the future/squad (and Target made permanent). Luis Diaz cost £49m including add ons, we’ve paid £40m for Bruno. This is the ball park I believe they’ll be looking to operate in quality/fee wise. Maximum quality injection, minimum personnel chances. Dubs Trippier New CB (£30-£40m) Burn/Schar (Left or right foot required) Target (£15m) Bruno New DCM (£40-£50m) New Winger (£40-£50m) Joelinton ASM New Striker (£50-£60m) I’m honestly unsure where he sees Joelinton playing next year. Maybe he would drop him deeper along side Bruno and spend on a Paqueta type for ACM instead. The price would remain similar. With the above we’d be looking at a gross spend of £175m-£215m. The spine of the team would be top 4 standard which lays the foundation for the champions league push in X years (next year if you believe Bruno’s agent!)

Is that all not now out the window with the proposed changes?
-
From what I saw he was involved with scouting players as much as he picked the starting 11. There was an excellent TV interview floating around where he described himself at the centre of a wheel helping all departments to work together to drive the club forward as a whole. I assume he’ll have a similar role here, recruitment will be done by the recruitment team and development by the coaching staff.
-
Bruno will perhaps be the benchmark. Young, well scouted & sold the vision of the club. 3 or 4 in that mould plus a bit more of a splurge on the striker. I agree they won’t blow the wage structure out of the water but I’d be surprised if Bruno is still the top earner by the start of the 22/23 season. Edit. Botman is a perfect example. Currently on £15k a week.

I think they will go big on all signings, minimal personnel changes (4-5) while maximising quality. Remember Mehrdad said in the Athletic interview earlier in the season the only limit on spending would be FFP. Eddie doesn’t want to revolutionise the squad in order to carry the team spirit and ethos he’s built into next season. Good characters will be prioritised and they’ll spend whatever needs to be spent. Could easily see £200m. 4-5 world class signings in priority areas, our current starters in those positions drop to rotation/back up. The deadwood from the squad will be cut away. We will recruit at the very top end and everything else shifts down a level beneath them. That’s the way I see them doing it anyway.

The chronicle website is an abomination.
-
What pubs will be rowdy for this in town on Sunday?
-
3 out of Kamara, Nunez, Moussa Diaby, Paqueta, Raphinha, Botman plus 3 or 4 more in the Burn/Targett mould would do nicely.
-
The system is flawed, so many people with points buy away tickets for others to accrue points without attending. I think keeping a fraction of tickets back for an open ballot is probably a reasonable idea. Maybe 20%. The concept of deserving tickets now because you went in the past is a strange one anyway. You could just as reasonably make the argument that someone who’s been 10 times this season already is less deserving than someone who hasn’t had the opportunity but would love to experience an away day. FWIW I don’t have much skin in the game as I’ve no desire to go away regularly and if I do want to go guess where I’d get a ticket? A colleague with points already accrued.

People saying we would have been better getting Weghorst are glossing over the circumstances in which he was bought. We’d just looked completely impotent against Cambridge with our best attacking player in ASM stuck out of position on his own up top. Wood was available within 48 hours due to his contract situation and we went on to take 4 points from Watford & Leeds setting us up to attract some good signings in the rest of the window. Weghorst was a gamble for Burnley which may well pay off but those 4 points earned when no one else could have realistically been available may prove to be the difference in staying up. That being said I’m sure they would be expecting goals from him but if you look at that first goal from Weghorst yesterday; how many times has Wood been presented with an opportunity to have a shot on goal like that? Maybe he’s not getting in the right positions but you could just as easily say he’s not getting the service to score.

Aye but this is the Bruno thread. Just saying if Howe wants to start him he has a perfectly justifiable reason.

Surely some squad rotation for injury prevention is sensible anyway? City are winning every week and making multiple changes in each game.
