If I had a quid for everytime I've said/typed/read/thought that down the years man. Crying shame we've never invested in the partner that would give us the solidest base to build the team on, but instead all we've done is bluff through on the cheap knowing Colos class will likely plug the gaps often enough to ensure we won't sink too far down the league. Janmaat, Yanga-Mbiwa, Colo is a fantastic base from which to play football from the back, I'd say one of the best ball-playing defences in the league.

On loan from Blyth after being a prospect for Newcastle United, good talent scouts we have eh

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/dec/08/steaua-bucharest-romania-lose-name-colours-emblem-court-ruling-defence-ministry?view=mobile#opt-in-message Looks like a great opportunity to establish Red Bull Bucharest. Sports Direct FC, with all replica kits produced in local sweatshops and flogged in Rangers' club shop.

I blame a lot of what's happened on De Jong.

Yep.. Sammy Ameobi, Mikel Arteta I also apologize for starting this thread, it seemed like a great idea in my head, but some of the cropping and (lack of) resizing has had me in stitches at work just now

Every time I see him he looks like he's two moves ahead of everyone else, extremely smart, uncompromising and always finds himself in acres of space. Way too good for us, how we got him and for so cheap is beyond me.

Zogbia was good for us 05/06 under Souness tho Yeah he did do okay for Souness when he let him play freely under the "He's a good young player" attitude. He never let the likes of Robert have the same free reign. I'm not saying the example I put forward is perfect though, or always right either. I just think in any team you generally see flair players do better when managers put an arm round their shoulder and let them off with a few things. Can anyone imagine most of our managers getting the success from Asprilla that Keegan did for instance? He used to get away with all sorts that would see you hounded out a club now. He didn't even train properly and he certainly didn't always do a lot of grafting. Keegan knew how to use him though and how to get the best from him. He employed actual man management skills that a lot of our managers have badly lacked. But Asprilla unbalanced the side and lost us the league...

Saw Palnese's sig when checking the match thread, thought I was back at Burnley again.
-
I can only assume you mean the first half because the 2nd was nothing like you've described. Apart from lacking ideas in the final 3rd I'll give you that. Don't blame anyone turning it off after the first half tbh. Best part of the first half for me was Burnley scoring, actually woke their fans up and we had some banter with them
-
In the second half we actually had a plan of note, quite genius by Pardew standards. Push up on the left as much as possible to give Janmaat space for when the ball is switched across. This gameplan didn't involve Gouff at all though lol, poor bloke is completely lost and broken.
-
I honestly didn't know he was playing until 20 minutes in when he got the ball near our corner flag. Towards the end of the game he was actually running away from the ball, he was getting no end of shit from the crowd.

I could see the shot coming 5 minutes before Elliot did and I was 20m behind him, like f*** it was close range.
