  1. http://38.media.tumblr.com/35662ad9db2dfdadb4e0a745f0bef05b/tumblr_n4thbezlub1tatdrbo1_500.gif Tbf it's hard to see what any other manager would have done otherwise with Aarons, he's been injured the whole time
  2. Why are they singing 'don't take me home'? f***ing idiots, I'd be dying to get out there Cause it's our best and favourite away chant? What do you sing when you're at away matches?

Family issues at Christmas, goes AWOL from job. So precious.
  4. Didn't Janmaat say Pardew was as good as Van Gaal the other week?
  5. Have you seen them play this year?
  6. I've read that Teddy Sheringham gets literally 30 minutes with the strikers per week.
  7. Steve howey was on total sport the other night saying ginola worked hard in training. Well either Rob Lee or Howey is spouting shit then. I wonder which.
  8. If Ginola was picked for the team based on his attitude in training he'd never of played a game for anyone.

After Kinnear's 2nd departure from the club Pardew said he'd be getting more directly involved in transfers. He did bring in Obertan before as you know, but Colback had Pardew written all over him also. Although it's unlikely, he could have wanted Riviere too. Colback has opportunism written all over him: Free, young and decent. Yep can't begrudge him that ^_^ Regardless, Riviere was handy in Ligue 1 as a foil for Falcao/Berbatov, so someone took a punt on him to do the same for Cissé here like Best did for Ba and what Bad did for Cissé. Can see the logic, on the face of it a better chance of doing well than a combative midfielder in the reserves of a Dutch Eredivisie team imo... they don't all work out. Hopeful unknowns are the best we can ever hope for, to get Janmaat in for <£10m for me was unbelievable. Was genuinely shocked.

What was a crap striker with a poor record costing £5m+ doing on this dossier anyway? I think Carr's allowed to get a few wrong, he's by and large done extremely well under the circumstances. And lets not forget he's not the only person that provides players now..

  14. Same here lol, I gave him credit for the 5-1 we got over Sunderland now I want him as manager Although almost anyone is an improvement over Pardew.
  15. The perception of Colback on here is so scarily similar to Scott Parker it gets more unreal every week
  16. From Argentinian summer to winter on the Tyne. Loon imo

Not all youth players who look good make it, it's a percentage of a percentage that go on to do well. The best method, as proven throughout the past 20-30 years, is to have them in your club from the age of 8,9,10 upwards and school them in the 'way of the club' - much better chance for them to grow into useful players. The few gems from the lower divisions are few and far between, probably one or two per season get signed from the football league by a Premier League club that actually turn out to be useful. Southampton have supplied loads, but they aren't really a football league club, they've always had the stature/recruitment of a PL club in my books. If you want good, young players that might develop, your best chance is to sign them from a PL team with a good academy set-up. And they cost a bomb. I haven't done much research on the numbers, but the only players I can recall who have come from relative obscurity who have risen above their station after being signed by a PL club as a young player are Raheem Sterling and Joe Hart. Few and far between.. Instead of ploughing millions into 1/100 chancers of making it, put the money into the academy and local youth recruitment.
