If Owen and Shearer weren't world class in their hayday then who the fuck was man? I never said Shearer wasn't but Owen no way. World class to me is someone who performs at the top of their game for a good number years consistantly. Some world class players of recent time IMO - Zidane, Maldini, Xavi, Ronaldo, Messi, C.Ronaldo, Shevchenko

World class is a phrase hoyed around too liberally. Owen was never world class, Shearer was arguably world class but no certainty.

Wish more Europeans would do that. I got excited when Trezeguet was rumoured to Corinthians with Ronaldo and R. Carlos. Guess its purely a money thing but if I were Spanish I could think of nothing better than heading off to Buenos Aires to end my career should I not need for money. I know, absolutely brilliant. I think he got a bit too much stick after that though. He wasn't too bad, the rest of the team were worse. Would've probably helped had he not given the crowd stick during the game n all like. Another in a long line of players who should've gone on to better things for us.

What defences do have a load of pace? - Vidic and Ferdinand don't, Terry and Carvalho don't, Carragher and Skrtel/Agger don't, Dawson and King don't etc etc. Pace isn't particularly important its reading of the game you need as centre half.
