I really do not see what our league position last season, has got to do with anything!! Things have changed SO much since then. It is fairly irrelevant, don't you think? No not really no. Sam is doing the things that we have needed for so long, building a squad. Yet everyone is having a go at him and his signings already. Best fans in the world my fucking arse.

People are getting carried away IMO. Do you not remember our position last season?

Anderson has all of the potential to be the real deal.

Desailly played in midfield a lot anyways up until he went to Chelsea.

Chelsea buying the title aye.

**Breaking News** The deal is now off as Reo-Coker is requiring surgery to remove the massive chip from his shoulder.

That's more a criticism of the British footballing culture rather than the Spanish one tbh. Not really, its the fact I can't see him up for away games such as this on a cold British day.
-
Can't wait to see him on a cold winter's day away at Blackburn watching Andy Todd kick the shit out of him.

Great at the World Cup? was he really?

Most overrated player on the planet. He's done nothing to justify such a price tag, yet all the people who play on FM and Pro Evo absolutely laud over him.

When has Dyer scored some absolute blinders? Apart from Everton away in the last century.

Deco is a better player than Lampard, in partiuclar on the technically orientated world of La Liga. Lampard doesn't have the technique to play the short, fluid, one touch passing game that Barca enforce.

I miss living at Heaton. -
Was never the same player after Salgado destroyed his ankle.

Didn't you know, Bayern were desperate to sign him... Anyway, no good news to me. He is a hot-blooded, diving dickhead, who is more likely to receive a red card or feign injuries than to create anything productive. I WAS WAITING.

Answer = Dixie Dean. Who no-one has ever seen. Or Jimmy Greaves. Who someone might have. Saw him on his debut for Chelsea when he scored against Spurs and, not surprisingly, throughout his career. Easily the most clinical striker England has produced in my lifetime. But, as I said before, the best English player I've seen (albeit only 7 or 8 times) was Duncan Edwards, absolute quality, better than Bobby Moore imho. Saw Utd thrash the scum at Highbury the weekend before Munich, that was the best club side I've ever seen, better than the Spurs Double side and far better than anything else since. What kind of player was Edwards like? Me granda says he was a real powerhouse and could do absolutely anything on the pitch, absolutely anything.

Do tell more....

Shoulda stayed on his line.

Posted this over at Toontastic so thought I may as well do the same over here. :parky: Fancied starting a topic that I thought would be a quite interesting one to talk over, especially with a lot of you folk being older than me and having more of an insight if you will. Being only 5 at Italia '90 don't really remember seeing Gazza at that point so I only really got to see post-cruciate Gazza for England, however I do remember being about 7 or 8 and my cousin bringing round a video of Italia '90 and to this day Gazza's performance against Holland in particular was one of the greatest I've ever seen. He was running rings around the likes of Gullit with ease, in particular the one Cruyff turn he done on Koeman has to go down as one of the greatest things I can honestly say I've ever witnessed on a football field. If not Gazza it would have to be Shearer pre '97, in particular watching him at Euro '96, the best striker in the world at the time. That was of course until a certain Ronaldo went to Barcelona. Really was something at the time looking back, I know me and Alex have discussed this before, but although we got great service out of Shearer I still feel we were robbed of the player we signed for 9 of those years, which was a real shame. Would also be interesting obviously due to generation gaps etc what the general consensus actually is about this, me granda says Tom Finney is the greatest player he's ever saw play for England, me mam and dad both say Bryan Robson.

My worry is that he's identified players for Bolton and is working on that list while at Newcastle, the Barton signing doesn't really prove anything either way as Anelka was on his list for Bolton when he had the money. I just wonder if we're shopping at Aldi when we should be shopping at M&S or Sainsbury's. I don't know the answer and look forward to see how things pan out over the summer, I hope we have a special player or two to come in, not just the bargain basement type of players usually associated with Allardyce. I suppose that will depend on the transfer budget as much as the manager, we'll know a bit more in 10 weeks or so. One step at at a time Mick lad, one step at a time. blueyes.gif
