It's not clear precisely what Rafa wanted, but how easy is it to get 'two or three proven high quality players' for £36m? You have to beat off a fair bit of competition. The modern Spurs side was built on a number of very lucrative excursions into the transfer market - Berbatov, Bale, Modric - where they got some good seasons from them and then sold them on at a big profit. To get to another level, we have to take a bit of a gamble, and I think Joelinton represents that. Schar wasn't "proven", neither was Lejeune. At least not n the PL. But they were cheap. Fair enough they are defenders, and defenders are cheap, but it demonstrates that Rafa can spot a player before he is proven. Well yeah... Rafa signed Koulibaly at 22 for £7m now worth £100million on his own. Rafa signed Jorginho at 22 for £8m now worth £50million. “A manager that only wants grandads with no sell on value” apparently though. The Rafa Benitez myths do make me laugh

Not buy players and bring Rafa in as manager Yep then they actually would finish Top 10 first season up On a serious note I’ve already said you should be buying and already said a few are good signings(Wesley, Trezequet, Targett, Mings) But if 5/6 of your starters are all new signings there will likely be issues similar to Fulham had. Just find it funny how Aston Villa fans refuse to see any comparison with Fulham whatsoever.

Let’s just get behind Steve Bruce and forget Mike Ashley has made Keegan and Rafa leave and treated Shearer like dirt. I mean surely now enough is enough?? SURELY!? Well not for Seymour I don’t even want to celebrate a goal next season that’s how much Mike Ashley has put me off. If after this absolute hell of a Summer Mike still hasn’t put you off nothing will.

Just caught up with the last few pages. Agree with Wullie that it WOULD effect Mike Ashley if fans stopped going. Seymour being simple minded again thinking it wouldn’t have any effect

“Why can’t Steve Bruce do the job Rafa Benitez did for us” is what you said. He couldn’t AND he won’t, you just enjoy your Steve Bruce season ticket though pal. Let me know when he beats Pep Guardiola with a £35million lineup he can do that apparently

Its not though, we gave Rafa a chance, was that wrong to do then? No, because appointing Rafa was an unusually positive move for this club. It was someone with a decent record at the top level and an upgrade on what we'd had. He was yes, and he did a very good job. However, at the end of the day he finished 13th and 10th in the premier league, no higher. Is it against the realms of possibility that Bruce can finish in those places too? It's about what a manager does at THIS club 10th and 13th under difficult circumstances. The potential for Rafa to take us on further with moderate backing was there for all to see. He's been allowed to slip through our fingers. Now we don't really have a manager of choice, just someone prepared to take the job. That's the thing about Ashleys' NUFC. It's always shooting itself in the foot. Needless sabotage that i can't get my head around when a successful club would surely be of mutual benefit to fans and owner. Seymour name me all these managers and clubs in the last 10 years/30 clubs/30 managers that got Top 10 in their first season up? Wolves, Rafa Benitez and.......... “Anyone could do the job Rafa Benitez did though” well why has hardly any club done that with a promotion side in the last 10 years then!?? We were a PROMOTED side half of them have gone DOWN since our promotion. Look at the percentages of teams that go down and don’t come back up for years. The downplaying of the job Rafa Benitez did for us is sickening. We’ll get the reality check though

 You won’t be laughing next season Seymour. Can’t wait to post “Give Brucey a chance they said”. I won't be laughing at my club because I know we'll be in a relegation battle, just like we was under Rafa. Instead this time we have Bruce so our chance of getting relegated has certainly got higher. I'll still be laughing any supporter (of any club) who think it's okay to abuse a manager before he even manages a game. I'll laugh at any 'fan' that thinks that okay as it just isn't Lee Charnley is that you No big deal losing Rafa for Steve Bruce hahaaahaaaa. Who said it wasn't a big deal? Ofcourse it's a big deal. We've lost a very, very good manager in rafa, a manager who did a very good job here. Now we have a pretty average manager in Bruce Where have I said that isn't a big deal? You tried to downplay Rafa Benitez. We’ll see the consequences next season Only Man City & Liverpool lost less away games than Newcastle under Rafa Benitez last season. Only Man City & Liverpool conceded less away goals than Newcastle under Rafa Benitez last season. Newcastle 5 v 1 Spurs/Poch Newcastle 2 v 1 Man City/Guardiola Newcastle 3 v 0 Chelsea/Conte Newcastle 2 v 1 Arsenal/Wenger Newcastle 1 v 0 Man Utd/Mourinho If Steve Bruce can do all this he’ll get the faith I had for Rafa Benitez. I won’t just give it to a Geordie accent.

what does this actually mean though? he's knowingly signed up for the conditions of employment which we all know essentially means being the guy with his finger in the dyke until it crashes down on top of him unless he starts by winning from the off he can f*** off tbh, and that's not a contradiction of my previous position but unless he starts winning he deserves s*** for it Rafa offered his services to the club. Bruce was offered the job. Bruce's start to the season is comparable to Rafa's, last. It's one rule for one, another rule for others, innit? Exactly, but Rafa won the champions league 15 years ago so it's okay apparently Err Rafa Benitez has won the 2nd most trophies of all the managers currently in the Premier League only behind Pep Guardiola. And he’s won 5 trophies in the last 9 years. And came from a 70% win ratio at Real Madrid the biggest job in world football. He was outscoring Barcelona in the league and had them Champions League group stage top scorers in the whole of Europe. BUT YEAH we only got a manager that won the Champions League 50 years ago Where do people get this myth from that Rafa only won a trophy 50 years ago? The club will never ever get a man with his CV EVER AGAIN. People had more faith in Rafa than Bruce because Rafa has proved it his whole career. If Steve Bruce has a hard start will he do what Rafa did and make us the 2nd best side outside the Big 6 for the last 30 games? NOPE. Should we have the same faith in Steve Bruce? ABSOLUTELY NOT. That would be just STUPID.

Welcome to our world

Great sale absolutely terrible player. Maybe Gayle is worth £20million after all
-
How have you been blocked by him and I haven’t
-
Most of the bottom half are hard to separate but none of them will break into the Top 10. How I see it at the moment.. Watford Palace(If they keep Zaha) Burnley Bournemouth Villa Steve Bruce Brighton Sheff Utd Norwich
-
Very good signing. However how many of the new signings will be starting? If they have 5/6 new players starting could be a big ask for it to gel well. Completely different approach to Fulham though apparently
-
Older than Rondon isn’t he. Says it all on what really happened to Rafa They just wanted not to have to listen to his ambition and his constant want for the club to improve. Rafa sent his new contract requirements to them in April after the Leicester win and he said they didn’t even respond to it not even in the meeting in the Summer.

God I’d hate to see Morelos in a black & white shirt. Probably the most dislikable human I’ve seen on a football pitch
-
Wolves to finish 11th or lower next season you heard it here first
-
What's the score? 3 v 3. Negative Rafa.
-
Rondon coming on
-
Rafa Benitez winning Rondon on the bench.

Pre-season 19-20: Newcastle 2-1 AS Saint-Étienne
