  1. Bruce looks a decent manager who has done a good job with Wigan. The danger for him going to Sunderland would be the crowd getting on a geordie's back very quickly as soon as they go on a bad run. He's always got a lot of stick from them over the years. If he can ride that out however he could be a very good appointment for them.
  2. Yeah, Redknapp spending within his means as usual... "wheeler dealer"
  3. Pretty much. Although having welcomed the last one I'm now fully aware that sometimes it's better the devil you know. I can't believe anyone wouldn't be excited by one though.
  4. He was on as much at Pompey as Owen was here, shade over £100k according to Pompey st holder I used to live with.
  5. I rate him. No idea if Man Utd would be prepared to let him go, but I think he'd be a class signing for us. They've been known to flog a couple of decentish players who weren't going to be good enough for them to a CCC team in the last couple of years (Eagles, Jones).
  6. It's hard to say, but I'd be surprised if it's that good given that it's the bunch of teams playing below the weakest premiership (bar the top 6) I've seen in some time.
  7. Top bloke and a quality manager to boot. He was my first choice when Fat Sam left.
  8. Interesting, didn't know that. I'm sure there are loads of players that could be picked to replace him if I had the energy. My other thought was Acuna but I'm pretty sure I remember him getting done for amphetamines before he joined us?
  9. I'm sick of having this argument He has the ingredients to make a good coach. Just like Shearer has the ingredients to make a good manager. Neither of them are guarenteed to succeed but there are more reasons to think they will than they wont Would it not make more sense to surround an inexperienced manager with more experienced coaches though? Also, why Speed in particular? Why not Solano? Why not David Batty - he was a quality little player and always seemed like a good pro when he was here. I fully understand your argument, but I don't know why there seems to be a common concensus that he would make a good coach ans should definitely come in now. Also agree with Tooj's point.
  10. Got no idea how he's done in Greece I have to say, but he'll have learnt a lot even if he hasn't scored. I reckon being the main striker at Newcastle would be tough to turn down if the alternative is to be a bit part player at a lower prem team. Depends who has their sights set on him and how they plan to use him I guess.
  11. Why does everyone think Speed would be a good coach? He was a model pro and an excellent player but that doesn't necessarily translate. Would smack a little of 'jobs for the boys' too.
  12. Just mentioned it elsewhere but I reckon Matt Derbyshire would be worth a punt if he doesn't permanently go to Olympiakos. Big Sam doesn't fancy him by the looks of it and he's got a bit about him. Obviously this is dependant on a premiership club not being interested, but I don't know if he'd be a starter anywhere.

    Ryan Taylor/Nolan

They'd piss themselves laughing at the offer. Offer him to Blackburn possibly with a trade for a lad on loan. Might be worth trying to swap him for Matt Derbyshire if he's not interested in going to Greece permanently.
  14. I wouldn't call them my team, but I've always watched out for Forest's results, so it'll be strange to actually be playing them. Could never support another team, but I'll still follow the Premier League. I always look out for Forest after living there for 4 years and going to the odd game, so in that sense I guess they're my second team. Don't really know anything about them though, I'd be surprised if I could name more than ten of their players.
  15. Fuck off Jonny, I can and will get my hopes up about this! On a serious note I'd be very surprised but absolutely delighted if he's here (and captain) for next season. Top bloke and a very decent player to boot. I just don't want to get my hopes up and then for him to go as soon as a decent offer comes in for him. I've learned with this club best thing to do is not to have any hopes at all, that way they can't be destroyed. Yeah I know what you mean mate. He's still far more likely to be off than not, it's just good to hear he cares about the club as much as he's always seemed to.

  17. So, given that you haven't seen the Newcastle youth teams basically what you're saying is that you've no idea as to whether we'll be in a better position than Sunderland to promote kids into the first team squad?

    The Villa

The booing was the Villa fans trying to get the Newcastle fans to stop singing through it. Was it half time or post match? Didn't even notice it tbh.

He wasn't booed. I didn't even realise there was a speech until I was told about it after.

The internet was the worst thing ever to happen to football. Worse than Charles Hughes, Sky, and FIFA combined. not as bad as nicky butt though I actually thought he put himself about a fair bit yesterday and at least showed some passion. Certainly when compared with that toussle-haired spunkweasel Coloccini who only seemed to put in any effort when getting down the tunnel as quickly as he could. I agree actually, pretty much the only one who seemed to care. Didn't hide like Nolan and made more effort than anyone to thank us. Shame he's turboshit.
