Barton's always come across as very eloquent and interesting in interviews, I was particularly impressed with how he dealt with Gabby Logan on Inside Sport (incidentally, was that before the incident that landed him in jail? Defoe should have been there under fucking Sven, except he chose to take someone he didn't trust to come on when Owen went off injured. Speaking of which, Owen was a lot better back then than he was now. Rio was arguably the best defender in the world back then (def was 12months ago imo) but his injuries have seemingly been catching up with him - this isn't based on today as I haven't seen any of the game. Unless they're brilliant or terrible it basically makes very little difference who your manager is a lot of the time. Changing it very rarely produces results that wouldn't have been seen if you'd continued with the status quo and if it does there's a good chance it'll be as much down to the cyclical nature of football (i.e. nobody stays in the same position forever) as anything else. Massively simplified but I read quite an interesting article along these lines some time ago, and I think a lot of the time it holds true.
