Who are the big two ? Man Utd and Chelsea ? Think you are overrating King, Woodgage and Bassong (assuming all fit) Man Utd : Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Johny Evans Chelsea : John Terry, Ricardo Cavalho, Alex Liverpool : Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Agger Arsenal : Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas, John Djourou Manchester City : Kolo Toure, Joleon Lescott, Nedum Onuoha Everton : Phil Jagielka, Sylvain Distin, Yobo Tottenham : Ledley King, Jonathan Woodgate, Sebastian Bassong As a package of 3, the big 4 are still better than Tottenham. I rate Everton and Manchester City as equal to Totthenham. However Distin, Yobo and Jagielka are all fit athlete. Jagielka is out at the moment but he suffered injury on the pitch not due to weak physique. I will get teased but I would say that Lescott-Toure combination is better than King-Woodgate combination. Aston Villa : Curtis Davies, Richard Dunne, James Collin Sunderland : Anton Ferdinand, Michael Turner, John Mensah Seems quite good for midtable team. Birmingham : Roger Johnson, Frank Queudrue, Scott Dann Seems quite good for bottom league. Yes, ManU and Chelsea are the big two. To be fair I said rival, rather than better, but Liverpool's is probably better looking at it again. Bassong (if he is to be third choice) I rate higher than Onuoha, Djourou and Yobo. Other than that it's as much down to how well the players complement one another. To early to say about Toure and Lescott, my hunch is they'll be good though. Until Vermalean proves himself I'd have Tottenham's CBs over Arsenal's without a doubt. Distin looked to have regressed last year imo, still think he's a good player. Some good defenders around at the moment.

Emergency loan: When teams want to make a loan, but can't be bothered sorting it out inside a transfer window.

We will aye, if a fee can't be agreed between the two clubs it will go to a tribunal. Not sure what the status on it is at present. Just seems weird, he's reported as a free transfer everywhere. I figured we'd get something at least since we made an improved contract offer. Just four articles from a quick google search and they all mention that they will have to pay compensation. http://www.burnleyfootballclub.com/page/LatestHeadlines/0,,10413~1710356,00.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1196812/Burnley-boss-Coyle-swoops-signing-summer-snaring-contract-Newcastle-youngster-Edgar.html http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/01072009/58/premier-league-edgar-signs-burnley.html http://www.burnleyexpress.net/burnleyfc/David-Edgar-signs-for-Burnley.5420119.jp Ah cheers. I hadn't looked it up carefully, just gone by the transfer round ups you get in the papers / F365 etc. which all seemed to have him down as free.

You must be kidding. Let him shaft us? In what way? That song gets a huge airing at every away game. There's only so much you can do as a fan, whatever we say he's not going to sign an extra centre back to act as cover. Although that's probably our fault as we're sitting back and letting him. Sarcasm doesn't work that well with typing.

Shouldn't we have got compensation for him, in the way we did for Chopra?

Also hauled him off against Boro.

Aces in their places, Enrique is a quality left back and that's where he should stay. Wouldn't even want to consider unsettlin the lad further by putting him somewhere he's not comfortable with or where he's not going to show his best ability (for potential buyers) I agree generally, but it might be beneficial to the team in the long run. It's a massive jump to go into a first team at centre back aged only 19.

If we were uncomfortable about playing Kadar at CB in a league game would it be an acceptable option to use Jose in the middle? He's not the best in the air, but he's fucking strong, pretty big and quick. He also reads the game well. Kadar would be less exposed at full back, and it might be a better way to introduce him.

Gone fishing I'd rather have a proven manager. What's hard to understand? If Arsene Wenger left Arsenal, they wouldn't give the job to Tony Adams. They'd be in a position to appoint a top manager. We aren't. Some people would rather take a gamble on the potential in shearer than the known mediocrity to shite proven by the majority of experienced candidates we'd be able to attract in our current position.

You can't have watched much of NUFC over the last few years then. I have & attended during the late 70's so I have seen plenty of s***. For a player who has so many strengths his crossing almost defies belief. Jonas' delivery is poor but whereas he may misplace his cross by a few feet Jose usually misses by at least 10 feet. We've scored from an Enrique cross before though, which is more than you can say for Jonas. Nolan at Palace? That was more like scoring from a Shola dummy tbh.
-
I'd say that King, Woodgate and Bassong is a trio that could rival any in the league bar the big two. Of course there's a huge, huge caveat on them all staying fit that doesn't often hold true, but in terms of ability they're up there.
-
Unfortunately I think we'll find out he's significantly higher than 5th in the pecking order once he's fully fit. That's where I'd have him though, and there's a case for Geremi being ahead of him due to his vastly superior passing if we can get someone to do his running for him.

I agree overall, but am very surprised we haven't taken in a couple more loans / freebies thus far to pad out numbers. I actually expected us to sell more players (primarily the Argies, maybe a centre mid or two) and have to spend some money. The first team is good enough to piss this league I reckon, it's what's there as immediate backup that gives me some cause for concern.
-
If there was a takeover / fresh start I'd still have Shearer in. I don't think he'd work for Ashley now, and I don't think it would be a good idea.
-
Based on what we saw last year I'd say that Lovenkrands in for Xisco makes us stronger in terms of quality, and adds a more versitile player. Obviously the squad depth is pathetic, but I half expected it to get worse yesterday so I'm not too despondant. p.s. in case you've not seen it, there's an article from the Mirror slagging off Ashley and Llambias on .com at the moment.

Fourth choice centre back behind Davies, Cuellar and Dunne? Who is Everton's fourth choice centre back? Or Spurs's? King, Woodgate, Bassong, Dawson........so Dawson. I rest my case. And as the first two on that list spend a month on the physio table every time someone so much as sneezes on them, you could probably do with a few more just in case. Incidentally, word has it that Harry tried to hijack the Dunne deal this afternoon. Woodgate's less injury prone now is he not? Sure he barely missed a game for Boro, thought he was similar for Spurs. Much improved (fitness wise) since he played for us, anyway. Could be wrong mind.
-
Fucking hell, everyone hates Dunne now Wasn't he City's player of the year for 3 seasons before a poor year last time around? edit: fucking tooj.

he did very well with that, but did give away the ball a lot himself though His passing is still unnecessarily sloppy at times, that would be my only criticism of him, well and his crossing is hit and miss. Yep. He's class, surprised no premiership teams came in for him. Excellent player.
-
I'd have him down as 5th choice CM. Just ahead of Geremi. Agree that he could well end up playing centre back a couple of times this season a la Rob Lee (but not as well).
