I agree actually. I was trying to think of someone as universally loved and I couldn't. Not often you get someone so sublimely talented who can simultaneously be so revered for his non-football related attributes. One of a kind indeed.

I preferred the Feyenoord game, and his tapping of his head to make sure people were concentrating was legendary, but that jig of delight was amazing. To have that much passion and care that much... just brilliant.

Great photo that. [Obviously] I love the photo in my av too. Huge pride that day.

He was just all pace and nothing else. He seriously has no other abilities at all. Can't pass, can't shoot, can't cross. One of the more useless players I've seen. Reminds me of Kerion Dyer every time i see him. Nothing at all like Kieron Dyer. Why can't people recall just how crap Dyer was, couldn't pass, shoot or cross. He used to dribble into a crowd of players and lose the ball. He was a decent passer over a short distance, and had quite good movement, off the ball running and was a good carrier of the ball. Suited our team under Sir Bobby perfect when he was at his peak which was only for about two years mind. Absolutely agree. There were times when he was terrible but there were almost times when he seemed unplayable. He seemed to have a thing for Leeds, regularly played well against them. His through ball for Nobby in the 4-3 win was sexual.

Like I said to Haz, Dyer has apologised for his behaviour. Whether you think it's genuine or not is up to you. "When I think about it, I feel like I betrayed Bobby. That's the worst thing about it," Dyer told the Independent. He treated me like a son and I let him down. I must take some responsibility for him getting the sack. I regret letting him down so much." "When I think about how I let Bobby down, it's the biggest disappointment of my career I'd spent the previous season playing out of position - filling in wherever there was a gap, it always seemed it was me who did everyone a favour," added Dyer. "Bobby knew I was frustrated but I should have just played that game. He stuck by me through everything and he even tried to defend me after the Boro game. He told the press I had a tight hamstring, he tried to shield me and when I think about that, how I let him down, it's the biggest disappointment of of my career. "I'll have to live with that feeling for the rest of my life." Apparently in tears during the minute's silence too.

Aye, fantastic statement. I've always got the impression that underneath all the public image Fergie is actually a very sound bloke.

I think I was at that game, one of his first in charge. The team bus was late, and I was with the fans waiting for it. Each player got a decent amount of applause as they got off, it erupted when Bobby showed his face.
-
That would be fantastic, if only for one game.

I think this is a debate for elsewhere (think there's an old thread on it) - but it would be nice to see a gesture of some sort.

I don't think anyone who knows about or cares for football in this country will be unmoved by this news.

Someone on TT suggested the charity match might have given him that one last thing to fight for, and now he's said his goodbyes he's gone. I think it's quite a common theme. A lot of ill people make it through one last christmas with the family and then pass away peacefully in the new year.

If is the biggest word there is. If I had wings I could fly to the moon. - Surely you'd like to be there come the end of the season though? What, the moon? Classic, classic Sir Bob. "Bobby Robson does a jig of delight on the touchline and then remembers he's almost 69" So many happy memories

Fantastic that he could be there and see and hear how he was thought of for one last time. Gone but never forgotten.

Yeah, Rossi didn't take any abuse at all. Nope, he didn't.
-
Most of it was as a result of Cattermole wasn't it? Also big sam didn't always pick him at the start.

We've got the fourth highest attendance in England. We're shit. Attendance means nothing. Third

It isn't a good thing. People are saying that he obviously wants away so much it's probably better if he goes. We're undoubtedly weaker for him leaving but if he's not 100% committed to the club then it's probably better he leaves. If a player wants away then he should be honest enough to say so and he has done so hats off to him. I'd rather he stayed but there you go. Not the end of the world all things considered. Good post middleton. I'll miss Habib, great in his first season and decent last. I would also say he's the only player we've had who's looked as though he's genuinely cared in every game he's played over the last two seasons. I'll miss him, his first season displays are the best I've seen for us by a right back in my time.

This thread has gone from being the worst thing in the history of the internet to pretty funny in the last 24 hours. Good turnaround.

As was established in the non-geordie toon fans thread.

Could have originated from the Sunderland Message Board though. I reckon it's all bollocks fwiw, made the day at work go more quickly though

Should we re-order the phrasing of the Shola Cokey to make our new owners feel at home?
