  1. There must be an anti-West Ham conspiracy in the southern-based media, because the papers are worried about the consequences for England: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/euro_2008/article2344600.ece http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2157942,00.html
  2. My advice would be simply to get the facts straight (actual chanters a minority of the crowd, "terrorist" stuff didn't really start until AFTER the "gestures") and don't try to fob them off with bollocks excuses like "we didn't heckle Tuncay" or "everyone could see he looks exactly like the shoe bomber".
  3. I'd be more than happy with just the one. I'm definitely in the we-need-a-bit-more-fucking-flair-in-midfield/link-up camp, but I would never like us again to be as dependent on any player as we were, at times, on Shearer. It’s a measure of Liverpool's weakness re. Man U and Chelsea that they still depend so much on Gerrard as engine and talisman.
  4. Do we need, like, one? We had one (Shearer) and it sometimes caused complications. We can see Arsenal currently struggling with the hangover of another (Henry). Man U and Chelsea, meanwhile, each have about four of them.
  5. Only if you have a taste for pernicious, scare-mongering bullshit.
  6. Dyer having a go at Pattinson for making a bad pass doesn't strike me as a very good example of him being only in it for the money.
  7. I've given up having expectations.
  8. One might equally suggest that the country is full of morons who are aware of their own bigotry only to the point that they start whining when someone calls them on it.
  9. How much did you lose on your shares, btw?
  10. yes, but I was running the risk of them being worthless. I chose to sell them while I could, and because it became obvious he was going to buy them all up. Its a double edged sword, I liked having shares and being a shareholder, but it was time to move on and hope it was all in the clubs best interests at the same time, is how I saw it. All I am doing here BTW, is expressing concern at the comments that Allardyce has made concering support etc from the board. You would have to be pretty naive to dismiss them. We have had good managers before who walked for lack of support. None of our managers EVER said this when the Halls and Shepherd ran the club. If you choose to ignore this because you don't want to consider the possibility that this could happen, its your prerogative. I want Newcastle United to win things and couldn't give a rats arse who owns the club and what their public profile is, to a degree. I've said this often enough, and I'm sure that YOU should have seen it. I'll believe Ashley actually has high ambitions for the club - unlike many others who are taking it for granted - when I see more concrete evidence. Nowt wrong with that. hang on....if it was "obvious" he was going to buy them all up anyway(i'm guessing you mean he had enough to enforce a sale),which he has to buy at the price he set,how can you say they were running the risk of them "being worthless" ? He could have chosen not to sell, and ended up with worthless paper, and Ashley still owning the club anyway. But instead he heroically cashed them in! did you buy shares in the club you say you support ? If not, why not ? And would YOU throw away 400 quid mackems.gif Of course I wouldn't throw away 400 quid. But I also wouldn't feebly tout the fact as "proof" that I was happy for Ashley to replace Shepherd. Good. I wouldn't feebly tout the fact that someone sold shares in the club as indicative of a lack of committment to the club, or suggest they should accept a loss to show some sort of perverse loyalty. I happily sold my shares, for reasons that I have explained. So, did you buy shares yourself, or not ? And, did you put in to buy them in 1991 too, seeing as you are a "long term supporter" ? No, I didn't buy shares. But if I had done I wouldn't feebly tout the fact as "proof" that someone who hadn't was therefore not a supporter. You don't half come out with some stupid drivel.

  12. There was no need. I was just quietly satisfied that we had crushed them. Or, in the case of that FA Cup reply at SJP when we beat them 6-1, loudly satisfied.
  13. Aye, I'm sure Leeds would have put in an excellent showing if they were still around.
  14. Footballers seem to be dropping like flies at the moment.
  15. Reading's a shithole. Perhaps that's why.
  16. I know some wonderful people who are Spurs fans. Still hate the club, though.
  17. It seemed pointless asking Newcastle fans if they hated Newcastle.
  18. Johnson and Diarra are "possibles" only because Mourinho has said they're up for sale.
  19. Yeah, but one could presumably refuse the cash.

  21. I've always intensely disliked Spurs and Jol's got nothing to do with it.
  22. Now that it looks like everyone is finished voting, let's have the final table. Over 500 responses to the poll makes it a pretty reasonable sample of Toon opinion, I'd say. The figure that follows the name is the number of votes each club received. 01. Mackems 373 02. Tottenham 352 03. West Ham 260 04. Man Utd 253 ---------------------------- 05. Chelsea 238 06. Liverpool 220 07. Middlesboro' 192 08. Everton 103 09. Bolton 57 10. Arsenal 53 11. Wigan 41 12. Birmingham 38 13. Blackburn 33 14. Aston Villa 25 15. Man City 19 16. Portsmouth 12 ---------------------------- 17. Fulham 8 18. Derby 3 19. Reading 3 Notes *Tottenham are, by quite some distance, the most hated team after the Mackems – only 20 points behind the leaders and almost 100 ahead of Man U and the rest of the pack. *We hate several London teams more than we can be bothered to hate the Smoggies. *Fulham are our least hated London team, while Derby and Reading simply seem to be off the radar. *Out of seven contenders in the north-west, Man City are our least hated club. But will they improve upon that position by season's end? *We don't seem to have much of a problem with clubs from the Midlands, possibly because they're all crap. Birmingham understandably top the local pack.
