Pick one player signed by Newcastle United for money...
OzzieMandias replied to Howaythelads's topic in Football
We're probably still paying for half of them. -
So the club always lie, and the Sunday Sun always get it right even though they've admitted the story was incorrect?
-
They're pillocks, the pair of them.
-
Yeah, any spending will no doubt have to come from whatever the club can generate, as it would seem Ashley's annual £20 million sub has already gone in to make up the shortfall in income vs outgoings (mostly the wage bill, huge by CCC standards though much reduced from last season).

Pepsi 2-1 Coke

Everyone seems to have forgotten that Keegan did something similar.
-
That was the one about Ashley and Llambias f***ing off to Vegas. It's a completely pointless banning. They're in exactly the same room as the Chronicle and Journal and so will just send a reporter and say they're from there That'll just get the Chron and Journal reporters banned too.

Northern Rock Plc sign 4 year shirt sponsorship deal.

Someone ought to point out to these moaners that there's a difference between charity and advertising. -
Interesting although they could still do with announcing some of their big financial backers to increase the interest of the supporters. My guess would be that they simply don't have any "backers" to announce. They're releasing these names of accountants and lawyers, even though it's all a bit "so what?", to plug the PR hole they've dug for themselves.

O'Neill was born in Kilrea, N.Ireland, which makes him a citizen of the UK - for now.... His family WERE Nationalist, but that doesn't matter because he still holds a UK Passport - unless he has changed Nationality without telling anyone. He also holds the OBE, and if he really did have strong Nationalist feelings, he wouldn't have accepted that....would he ! Being a citizen of the United Kingdom is not the same thing as being British. Here's a link to Martin O'Neill delivering a talk on "What it means to be Irish": http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/2008/1231/martinoneillpresidentiallecture_av.html Brian Clough once said ; 'If your Auntie had balls, she'd be your uncle...!' O'Neill holds a UK Passport - end of story, despite what anyone says - there are plenty of Ulstermen who are rightfully proud of being Irish, but they wouldn't relinquish their British citizenship. Ditto Welshmen and the majority of Scots...... UK citizenship – citizenship of "the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" – is not the same as being British, and no amount of wilfull ignorance on your part will change that fact.
-
No, it's not at all controversial. Look at your passport.

agreed.....but then again its ken bates. Ken Bates vs Mike Ashley is like the irresistable force meeting the immovable object.
-
O'Neill isn't British. He's mostly played and managed in Britain, but he's Irish.

A "decade of title challenges, European finishes, world record transfer fees"? In the ten seasons preceding relegation we finished in the bottom half of the table more often that not, it's about seven years since the last time even the most starry-eyed optimist might have imagined us winning the title, and our one world record transfer fee was shelled out 14 years ago.

I can't find that quote attributed to NUST. It originated on True Faith who were reporting on the NUST. http://www.true-faith.co.uk/tf/features.nsf/ab283684d03f231d80256b520047d321/05f16bc3fb51dd0e80257669007c3eba?OpenDocument Nice one Bob. You people are hard work sometimes. It's on the NUST website. Click under 'Read more about the campaign'. It's on the launch article from 9th November. Fifth paragraph down. http://www.nust.org.uk/the-ultimate-protest-confirmation-of-launch-of-the-yes-we-can-campaign Whey provide a link yourself in future. Even with the whole quote in google there's no returns of the NUST website. Verbatim from the article Bob mentioned "It is believed that this is the first stage of a 6 week campaign including advertisements, the opening of an advice shop in central Newcastle and the unveiling of high profile backers." Happy? As NUST have already admitted the six week campaign was 'wrong' I've no idea of the point you're trying to prove. I believe the point was about the difference between backers and advisors. Some of us have been waiting for the promised names of these "high-profile backers". You seem to think there's no difference between that and the names of some accountants and lawyers.

Sir John Hall and Shepherd - One of the biggest football legacies

I personally think it is the best thing any non-bankrolled by oil board has achieved at any higher level club in the last 20-30 years. Emirates? Old Trafford? -
Nonsense, man. He's making £7 million a month. Haven't you heard?
-
Aye, that one was official. Only decent one ever, IMO.
-
Well, I'm still waiting for the long-ago promised news of backers/partners. This latest revelation is just another non-story. PR bollocks, basically.
-
Cue torrents of abuse because the investors aren't loaded like Donald Trump I'm sure you can just invent some better ones for us.
-
It's more than that. Both clubs were the subject of leveraged buyouts, meaning that the cost of their purchase is being met out of their revenue. Then factor in the effects of global economic meltdown and, yes, the difficulty of having to compete with Chelsea and Citeh who don't need to worry about balancing the books. Man U would be doing fine, though, if it wasn't for the expense of transferring ownership to the Glazers.

(2) would win by a country mile. On the whole the NUST have been organised, earnest and effective. This is clearly a mis-step but it's a long term, well backed campaign amongst fans and the media. Such clangers hurt them all the more having built up the level of momentum they have exactly because they're a far more well publicised and organised group than whoever knocked up the pamphlet on powerpoint that no-one outside of a couple of message boards has any clue about. Do they have your support still, and more importantly your money if they make a bid? I've paid my membership and pledged nothing else because i don't agree with making a bid to buy the club. They still have my unwavering support though. They're Newcastle fans. I'll say when i don't agree with something. i won't call the entire endeavour flawed and insist a stop be put to it. You'd have to be a mackem to do that. Leaving aside the fact that they've just proved they're either incapable of understanding the club's finances or else trying to play people for suckers, you're giving a group your "unwavering support" even though you disagree with their principal aim?
