Ashley sets up new long term transfer strategy - Sunday Sun

"understands that" = read it in the News of the World. -
Portsmouth FC in yet more trouble - administration again?

Dunno, but the case of Leeds and the case of Portsmouth seem different to me. I don't remember Leeds being in danger of going out of business in the middle of a Premiership season. -

Why didn't they do that for Leeds? Because Leeds weren't about to wink out of existence in the middle of a season? -
have you looked at those pics man.....not one but two bridges. little known fact....the tyne bridge was copied off the sydney bridge even though it was built first. Yeah, I knew that, but I only found out recently. I'd thought the Tyne Bridge had been built as a prototype for the design. I said that once to some Australians in Birtley services who were looking at postcards of Newcastle and saying "Hey, it's just like our bridge back home." This woman turned and looked at me rather scornfully and said: "Ours is bigger and better!"

If it's bridges we're going by, then Newcastle should really be twinned with Sydney.

I can remember that game - it was the first game of the first ever season I saw every home match - aged 10-11 and all in the Leazes End. All this talk about a "singing section " etc - I really wish some of the younger fans could have experienced the old Leazes End. It was on another planet compared to today. It certainly was, but at that age I only ever went in there for reserve games (admission: sixpence) when I'd go with other kids, unaccompanied by adults. My dad, who was a Liverpool supporter but who took me and brother to Newcastle matches, was a bit nervous about going in the Leazes. The only thing I can remember, really, about that Southampton game, was Gordon Marshall saving a penalty.

I'm an old git, too. Went to my first game in 1967 – season opener vs Southampton, stood in the Gallowgate, we won 3-0.

I remember Arsène Wenger comparing us to Lens a few years back.

Fabio knows, but do you? The central midfielders...

It's a damn shame Hargreaves is perma-crocked, but we're not short of quality here. It's gotta be Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick. -
If I had the choice to see the mackems or Blackburn go down I'd probably go for Blackburn. I think Blackburn will stay up.
-
Hmm. Just four points above the drop zone, three behind Blackburn. They're by no means out of trouble but there's a lot of other shite floundering around down there.

We are. It's good that some people are dedicated to making a noise, but the holier-than-thou, we're-above-criticism attitude is laughable.

I was wondering the same thing. There's number 7 at Man U – Cantona (after whom I remember some of their fans saying the shirt should be retired), then Beckham, Ronaldo... but now they've given it to Michael Owen so it obviously doesn't mean so much.

Why on earth should that come into consideration? Best reason I've heard for it going to Lampard, tbh.

John Terry loses England captaincy, Ferdinand gets it
OzzieMandias replied to Ishmael's topic in Football
Spot on. Sacking JT for cheating on his wife looks like a proper Own Goal looking at that list. Except that's not why he's getting sacked. -
I don't want the extra pressure on Rooney, just like I didn't want it on Shearer. Maybe Rio? The options are crap, basically.

Yes, all he does is beats up DJs. Another great example of an English role-model. It's got absolutely nothing to do with role models. It's about the England changing-room. -

He's got a better track record than Terry. With him it was only shagging grannies and, to be fair to the lad, he always paid good money for it. And, more to the point, it had fuck all to do with his teammates.
