Republicans in Ireland generally see the poppy as a symbol of the British Army, and that wearing one is remembering and supporting the British who have died in war, not just the two world wars. A lot of Republicans here refuse to wear it because of the actions of the British Army in Ireland over the past couple of centuries, no more so than the recent half century. McClean, being from Derry, probably grew up surrounded by people expressing this view point, especially given the events of bloody Sunday in his home city. There is also the matter of the division between loyalism and republicanism and the obvious effect this subject would have on that divide. I don't agree with the ignorance of Republicans here when it comes to their viewpoints at this time of year, but at the same time I know what their reasoning is behind it and don't play dumb asking why they're refusing to wear a poppy. McClean refusing to wear one is just daft given that he is living in Britain now and earning a fortune courtesy of an English club and English people paying in to that club. Also I seriously doubt McClean has any idea of the politics behind the Irish Republican stance on this matter. It's wrong, I don't agree with it, but there you go, that's where he's coming from.

Ben Arfa has been one of our better players this season and more often than not is doing what is expected of him getting assists and goals. He has out performed most of our team in every game this season as well, that is why people aren't criticizing him, rather than just because he is "technically gifted".

If Pardew is playing football that doesn't suit Cisse then surely that is another case for him to be benched? The solution is of course changing the game plan and playing to Cisse and Ba's strengths, but it doesn't seem like Pardew is willing to change anything.

Cisse is a brilliant player, but it's time he was dropped from the starting 11 to the sub bench. We just can't afford to carry a player so low on confidence right now, give him a few sub appearances and if he scores then ease him back in to the starting 11. Before anyone jumps down my throat too, I think Cisse is a quality player, one of my favourites in the team, but he's a passenger.

If things don't change fast we'll be heading for a mid table finish, which will leave us vulnerable next summer when it comes to keeping our best players. Next weekend is a massive game, anything less than a win and we're fucked.

We could lose the next 10 games and he won't get sacked. The compensation would be too much.
