    Danny Guthrie

has he....whats his position ? played wide often enough for bolton and often enough for us. what makes you think centre mid is "his true position" ? He can move from one of the pitch to the other at a similar capacity to the opposition?
  2. Hughton has been absolutely vindicated by today's performance IMO. With a midfield which totally lacks any sort of mobility in the centre the best tactics are definitely hoof to the big forwards and hope for the best. This allows the old codgers like Butt, Smith and Nolan to sit back in front of the defence without getting rings run round them by faster players with far more stamina.

    Jonas Gutierrez

It's not much of a point given that Nolan has arguably been far more effective. That must be why Albion's midfielders pissed all over us tonight. Nolan's all action performance surely put them to shame!!
  4. But spot on unfortunately. The last 4 or 5 weeks has been coming for a few months. Why? What do you think he has done wrong?
  5. Yeah well spotted. What a fucking liability. Touch of a rapist tbh.

    We lack athletes!

We don't lack athletes, we lack nous according to many wise heads on this forum. Don't expect to see many of them crop up here mind.
  7. He really bossed the midfield today. it wan't his fault that WBA completely bossed us in the middle, it was Shola with his rapist touch up front.
  8. They are both shit tbh. Harewood on loan is ok but I would prefer us to be going for Beckford either now or at the end of the season.
  9. Daft comparison but if anyone can pick a good footballer you would back someone like Martinez. While plenty of fans will go the Kinnear route and rejoice at signing , Butt's, Kevin Nolans and Ryan Taylors, I would prefer Martinez style of footballer. Even if Zog is a bit of a cunt.
  10. Aye. Hull are £40m Everton £46m Portsmouth have vastly reduced theirs from £60m to £36m. Indicative of the clubs ambition for next season. Everton's average wage looks about right, they have been fairly successful and they can justify paying a bit more, even so they are one of the tightest run clubs as far as wages go. They spend what they earn for the most part. I can't see how Hull can pay those wages without getting into trouble further down the line. Maybe they've got a smaller squad but spend more per player that way?
  11. WBA are under far more pressure than us, we don't really HAVE to win, whereas they pretty much need to. I hope Hughton has the balls to go for it though. We can bury their promotion hopes tonight if we do.
  12. is he any worse than smith ? Smith does the job he is asked to, i.e. break up play and pass it quickly and on the floor. We don't need either of them attempting to do more than that, especially Butt as he's too slow to get back if he ventures up the filed, and his over-ambitious passes just end up losing possession. Smith is much better in the air as well.
  13. Obviously there will be players on a lot more than 30k a week though, you would have a hard job persuading everyone to accept the same wages.
  14. Don't know how those wages compare to what other clubs are paying but I'd think there aren't too many capable of paying Simpson 20k a week, and the ones that are wouldn't sign him. 15k sounds about right. Not massive wages by any means but these are the times we are in.
  15. £1.5m for a striker we can pick up for free in the summer was a pretty generous offer tbf. While it's a signing I would have liked to happen you can't just offer dafyt money when there's no cause for it.
  16. The nationality of the manager is secondary, his competence is what's important. MON is one of the better British/nearly British managers around but there are far too many cack ones. We should know, we've employed most of them and paid them a fortune to persuade them to fuck off eventually.
  17. We will pick all these players up at the end of the season and screw their greedy bastard clubs I reckon.
  18. wasn't it due to his performances when he was here ? also wasn't titus wigans player of the year last year ? If they are so bad why are they playing in the premier while we aren't? goes for stephen carr aswell then.....you were sorry to see him go ? No because he was fat and unfit. See the difference? he was at the end of his time here, not throughout. n'zogbia performances in his last 18month here didn't warrant him a first team place. it's funny how milner was given grief by many when playing better than charles and has gone on to be a better player. Both are doing well and are long gone from this club. We are left with Nicky Butt and Kevin Nolan which should be a clue to which were the better players. i agree to a point but just because someone is playing in the prem doesn't mean they are better than a player in the fizzy pop. enrique for example, steven taylor also and i'll bet if carroll moves it'll be to a prem club. because they aren't fat or unfit. Which is basically my point really.
  19. Did you ever wonder about that when Fat Fred was in charge?

  23. While I agree with that in principle, it's depressing that we've had a succession of British managers who have failed to use Milner effectively. Milner who is as British as they come had to go to Villa to play football while our British managers were too busy making room in their squads for salt of the earth Nicky Butts and Ryan Taylors. If we are going to appoint a British manager let's hope we can get one with a brain rather than some thick former centre half who would be better off running a pub. A few things: I sort of think Milner was sold by a board that though it was good business rather than a manager. O'Leary was centre half O'Neill is British M your points: Milner: I t was generally considered good business at the time, I don't think you were one of those objecting when we got £12m for him. I can't remember many objectors tbh. O'leary was a centre half: I know. Your point? O'Neill is British: So are Allardyce and Souness. Hmmm...wonder why we got relegated?
  24. we have players who are plodding at this level, whats going to happen to them with a step up. Well we have some good youngsters who might be able to step up and challenge the old guard. Kadar, Krul and Ranger all look like they can offer some fresh legs and enthusiasm. We could buy in more and ship out the deadwood. We might have done it with Geremi, unfortunately Nicky Butt looks like hanging on til his last pay packet. guthrie,nolan,shola,r.taylor,barton,pancrate,butt,smith. when was the last time one of these played a game that made you think they'd survive in the prem ? Guthrie offers some movement, Shola has scored goals in the premier, Barton tries to pass to feet as does Smith, Pancrate can run. Nolan, Taylor and Butt should all quit and sign new lucrative contracts as soon as Joe Kinnear gets appointed as manager of a leading club. guthrie offers some movement at this level, shola has scored but now struggles at this level, barton has had 3 or 4 decent games in 3 years, smith is butt without the crowd on his back. I am picking the best of a bad bunch here. basically anyone who can run from one end of a pitch to another for a decent period of a football game is my main criteria. Barton is excused to some extent because we don't have any other central midfielder with any vision.
