I'm probably the only one who's irritated by this, but here goes. 'Finish what you started?' - Sorry Al, you didn't start anything, we were relegated. You've still got something to prove, mate. The bit about 'everything is right and they want to get back into the Premier League' sounds like he's only prepared to take the job if there's money to spend. It doesn't sound to me like either Ashley or even any buyer is going to be able to blow much on signings. We need someone who sees the job as an opportunity and who's going to make the best of limited resources. That's the reality. I didn't like the way he was sat in the studio, talking about the limitations of the players out there. No doubt it'll get him a round of applause with most fans, but I did wonder what the players would have felt. Spending £10m of the money he's raked in on a couple of strikers will probably get us promotion at the first attempt and that will be worth £40m a year. But I expect ashley will continue his small minded approach and that will keep us in the lower leagues for the near future.

With a better partner Carroll will. specuation mate. Realistically Carroll has played with better players than that useless c*** and still looked out of his depth It's also speculation that they both won't do anything of course. Speculation with a fairly solid basis though. Not exactly throwing darts at the board. Carroll does an ok job but he isn't a goalscorer, which is what we badly, badly need Scoring goals is going to be our biggest problem this season. It will probably cost us any chance of promotion.

It's not like there's a queue lining up in competition either.

If he's going to make the odd gaffe i'd rather he did it being brave and trying to command his area than hiding on his goal line. The experience gained today will do him the world of good.

Fair enough. I share Shearer's view that most of the players are expendable but you would like to build the side around the few decent players here, Beye is one I would include in that. I also strongly believe if Shearer had been given the job, the likes of Beye would have been happy to stay. The alternative Ashley plan of selling the players and buying none is not a good one in my view so I don't pat him on the back of getting rid of our best players in any way whatsoever.

Just wondering how you would win matches with only three players in a team? Are you confident Ashley will make the necessary signings to replace all these terrible players we are losing? I said I'm looking forward to the day when they're all gone, not I want them all sold now.. I'm looking forward too a couple of years from now when hopefully none of these tossers will be here anymore. The only players I'd be happy enough to see still in our team in a few years are those three I mentioned, is that clear enough? So you are pleased to see these players leaving because you are prepared to wait for a couple of years until we're better?

We aren't going to go down but if Ashley doesn't sell I can see us ending up in the bottom half of the table. It's not being negative, it's just looking at the basic facts, we don't have enough goalscorers which means we'll be drawing a lot of games and winning too few to make a difference. I don't think it's either vindicitiveness or ineptitude which has seen Ashley make so many mistakes btw brummie, it's just plain small-minded penny pinching. He's a frightened tight-fisted bastard basically.

That's something that I suspected anyway, which is why it annoys me when people say it's a good thing to lose the likes of Beye and Bassong.

Do you think it's a coincidence that he only gets in the penalty area on set pieces? Or is he just too slow to get there in open play these days?

Interviewed at a FIFA 10 press event I think, it's not like he's come out looking for this. Didn't realise. Still think he'd have been better of keeping things like that to himself though tbh. Doesn't really inspire confidence in the spirit of the camp when you hear this sort of stuff even if it is understandable. Which is why I think he shouldn't have said it. The fans will read it, his colleagues will read it and I'm struggling to see what it's achieved. Just confirming that it's been a fucking shambles for a while, which we all knew anyway. Yep. Venables said it best in that article when he pointed out players are always looking for excuses for their crap performances so you have to make sure they haven't got any. It sort of looks like ours are getting theirs ready before the season has even kicked off. Not good.

If he's good enough he'll get offers from other clubs and leave. If not I'm sure he's getting well paid to play in this division, he's not doing it for charity.

Ashley's attitude says a lot about hwere this bid will end up though. Just like when he went to dubai to flog the club in the summer, he decided to skip the meeting and sit with his mates drinking cocktails in a bar. This time he's jetted off to the bahamas or wherever to get some sun on his fat arse which shows how seriously he's taking all this.

It's nothing I didn't know already tbh. Shearer walked into a shambles so now he's left I can't imagine it's any different. I suppose at this level it shouldn't make as much difference though, most clubs are run on a budget aqnd it's just a case of get stuck in and give it 100%.

My thoughts exactly. Yes Carroll and Ameobi and one or two others will chip in with odd goals but there's no genuine striker who will get 20 goals in that squad. Not many from midfield either, so while those names might look impressive on the team sheet I don't see much end product.

At least the fans are fighting tooth and claw for the club
