Sebastien Bassong signs for Tottenham Hotspur, fee undisclosed
TRon replied to Crumpy Gunt's topic in Football
Bit surprised that Alan was recommending players to other managers like. Still, it was hardly any secret that Zog was the best of the players here. -
He's going to go through this every year until he sells the club, he realises that he made a mistake in buying us but is not prepared to cut his losses unless he gets a sweet deal, even in a depressed economy. I fully expect an announcement within a month or so that he's going to give it one more try, only to put the club up for sale yet again in January or at the end of the season. I am fully confident to make the statement that we will not be sold this year. Putting the club up for sale every so often also has the added advantage for Ashley that he can immediately freeze any plans to run/develop the club in the interim period, shifting the blame onto the potential buyer for not meeting his unrealistic price. he's used it this time round to not only avoid investment but to quietly boot Shearer up the arse while secretly courting Joe kinnear. well spotted. Summed up quite nicely I thought.

It's the first home game of the season, people will want to show despite the Cockney cancer at the heart of the club.

He'd possibly be the best winger in the Championship by a comfortable margin. He was shit last week before he got the goal though. Absolutely non-existent in the first half as far as providing a wide outlet.
-
Yes. But do you honestly think that there will be replacement. There won't. That ugly fuck has raised his hands up, and now he's trying to sell everything he can to cut his losses. He dont give a fuck if he put this club to bed when doing that. I made the same point wrt Oba...that I didn't think he would be replaced and that remark is more for the benefit of people who were justifying the sale then. This is no different so if it was the right thing to do then, it's the right thing to do now. Personally I'd rather have kept everyone because we'd be getting promoted but obviously the priority is to cull the wages.
-
£4m for a 30 yr old on massive wages is pretty good tbh. If we couldn't afford to keep oba because his wages were too high, I don't see how we could justify keeping Duff either.
-
Don't worry, with Ryan Taylor flying down the wing tomorrow night no one will even realise Duff's gone
-
Well at least we aren't boring like most clubs. Dunno how fans of teams like Wigan can be arsed, there is rarely much going on there. Other than signing a promising manager like Martinez who has a reputation for playing good football.

They tend to get pretty good info tbh, given that David Craig is lodged firmly up Derek Llambias' arse. They don't really need good info tbh. I'm sure most of us knew this was bulshit from the start, and whichever names are bandied about it will come back to good old Joe in the end. If it was bullshit from the start, why would anyone word it 'no longer in contention'? Wouldn't 'never been approached' be more suitable? It's similar to bidding £4m for Stephen Mbia in the January transfer window, then buying Kevin Nolan instead. Benefit of hindsight. Nolan was quality at Bolton and Mbia is unproven. We made the wrong deal but it never seemed like that at the time. The point I was making was that we were never seriously in for players like Mbia or Veloso, both valued at over £10m at the time. Our real target was the wheezing fat Nolan, more in Ashley's transfer budget. Now we'll make plenty of noises about O'Leary, Hoddle and Curbishley then quietly install lunatic Kinnear as soon as he gets clearance from the asylum. Do you a see a theme emerging yet? I wouldn't bother trying to reason with him, I did and it made me want to throw up. He's blatantly a 13 year old Wum. I know he's fucking up all the threads with his pointless drivel.

More likely Ashley picking the cheap options from Shearer's list and quietly sidelineing the ones where he will have to pay a fee.
-
Does Ashley even need to sell the club now? With the players sold and in the process of being sold the wage bill must be pretty close to being sustainable for this season. Ashley being a punter will probably fancy taking a chance on us somehow sneaking promotion, and if we don't he's not losing a boatload is he?

Beckford or bust for fat bastard Mike.
-
Jermaine Beckford is the acid test signing. Would actually cost money, it's a position that desperately needs strengthening but it requires an owner with some backbone and a hint of commitment to the club. So we can forget about that then.
-
Not that good I suspect.
-
I'm happy with this type of signing tbh. He's young and ambitious, will add some much needed energy to the team
-
We'd be better off not signing Simpson if that's the case. depends if he's only thinking about owning the club till January window then putting it on the market again. If he takes it off the market of course. What I mean is that Ryan Taylor doesn't have enough skill to play as an attacking RB, so obviously putting him on the wing is just going to make us even worse than we are now. One step forward, two steps back.

-
He's a Man U player so he'll at least have some technical ability. That alone should make him a decent alternative for Nolan.
-
That bit about turning to Curbishley or Glenn Hoddle made me laugh. As if the fat bastard ever had any intention of bringing in anyone other than Kinnear.
-
Sell. We have more than enough central midfielders.
