Its a watershed of sorts, i'm not expecting or demanding we buy big, but I expect and demand that we cover the gaps in the squad now that Ashley can't use the 'club for sale' as an excuse for nixing any deals. How hard can it be to buy a left back better than Zog and a right back better than Taylor? I would think there's a few in the lower leagues who could do a job as cover.

I doubt N'Zogbia will leave tbh. He'll only be transferred if we get a decent offer. Say what you like about Ashley, if the Dyer deal is anything to go by he's not the type to give players away unless we get full value.

I think I would be really angry about Ashley not spending if he wa preventing anyone else from doing it. The club's been on the market but no one can afford it, which suggests that there aren't many other people who are rich enough to do different. Or don't want it badly enough. If that's what the manager wants then that's what the club should do. It is in line with the "summer transfer" policy though AKA whole squad up for sale/being forced out. Not really as Kinnear will be selling players to bring in players that he wants and if he wants to sell Jonas and Colo to sign Ferguson and Diop then good for him. I have that feeling as well. Carroll doesn't look like a goal scorer, I think Joe likes him because he's big and strong. Xisco looks less physical but he looks like he might have more quality around the penalty area. Hard to tell from a couple of brief outings, but I'd like to see him in a decent side before i write him off. not just the goals but all round play Agreed. He's no Viduka but he looks a bit more polished than Carroll. I wouldn't have even minded seeing him alongside Carroll for the last 10 mins with the wingers firing a few crosses in. Comparing Xisco with Carroll is like comparing a Lada with a Reliant Kitten. Possibly. I'd like to see Xisco properly before we ship him out though. I have watched JDT many times over the years play against British club teams & England at international & he has always been crap but playing elsewhere overall he has been a success. I don't think being shite at Newcastle & playing for AC makes you good, look at Andreas Anderson. Andreas Andersson was a flop at Milan then he came here. JDT was farily successful everywhere but Newcastle. He was a fairly specialist player though, in that he needed to be playing behind the main striker, a bit like Owen last season for us in the 4-3-3. At Newcastle he was playing as the main striker in front of our most uncreative midfield of possibly all time under Dalglish the Dour.
