While £8m sounds a bit unlikely, I would think we'd easily get our money back. Just think of the stupid fees paid for over-rated rejects we've signed (Alan Smith?). Emre isn't cut out for the Premier, but would anyone be surprised if he looked a very useful player in the Euros? Playing in another climate where the football is played at a slower pace he'll look a lot better. In today's market he could fetch £6m no problem. Before anyone laughs I can remember people here practically begging us to give Dyer away for peanuts. Well thank fuck Ashley & Co were in charge and not them.
-
Does anybody know if this deal is any further forward? I'm referring to Amara Diane btw.
-
Similar to the Dyer transfer in that a lot of people won't be sad to see him go, but once again we are losing a player that can make things happen. It's best all round if he moves on IMO - He's not suited to English football and he'll do very well in Turkey. Like others, my only concern is that he is replaced by a player of similar technical ability. We don't need any more try-hard relegation magnets like Smith, Butt or Duff.
-
Because we need to lower the wage bill - getting rid of a player with no bottle for a fight is a marvellous bit of business. Hopefully Smith, Geremi and Martins will follow. Smith, Duff and Butt would be my ideal departures. No slight on Butt's efforts but this is the type of player who typify a club going nowhere. Emre has been a liability here, but I'm sure he'll do well at Fener.

the sad thing is it's not hard to believe this is true.

You're really starting to get on my tits.. Yes i put in my honest opinion and despite being a mad fan, i know and recognise the harsh reality in life. I was not popular when at the start of the season, i say we have a worse squad than prior one. With signings like Beye (good buy i was wrong) and Cacapa, i know we will struggle cos i have seen them play regularly in France. Also signings like Smith as i recall please some fans but i was disgusted. I was criticised when i predicted we will be in the relegation scrap and should be happy just being safe, also being blasted when i say Pompey is way better than us in terms of squad quality. Remembered when i post that if pple are thinking we will back in top6 soon are asking too much last summer, i was blasted as well. I turn out to be more right than wrong. Seriously, the state of the club in terms of attracting players due to the big club tag is bollocks....we are just a top 10 club at stretch. No doubt rising stars like Turan, Gomis, Gomez will not come to us ahead of the likes of even Blackburn, Everton and Spurs. Do not blast me now...do it after we signed these type of players. I say we will not sign players of such quality and will settle for second raters like Diane and Sessegnon. I have seen them play and they are average at best. I have posted much recently because we have been linked to Ligue 1 players which i am familiar with. These are the type of players that will normally go to teams like Boro and Sunderland, we will sign them if we are interested cos we are definitely a more attractive proposition. But players like Gomis is way way out of our league. If Turan or anyone else chooses Blackburn or Everton ahead of us I will gladly hold my hands up and say you were right. You are entitled to your opinion, but mine is that players would crawl over broken glass to sign for us ahead of them because WE are the bigger and more glamorous club. Everton and Blackburn are shitholes (no offence to people from said shitholes), and I will be amazed if they turn us down for them. I am not saying they will crawl over broken glasses to join such clubs over us; i am saying we are less attractive. Also, saying we are bigger and more glam is exactly why we are the butt of jokes in the country. Well they thought it was a joke when we appointed Keegan. I didn't see many of them laughing when we put four past Spurs.
-
I said that earlier. The answer IMO is that barring the top four, we can compete with anyone. I just won't be surprised if the teams with European competition next year, London, or something else unique to offer beat us to some players this summer. Some you win, some you lose. It's just as ridiculous to suggest we've no chance against Everton as it is to suggest players would crawl across broken glass to join us ahead of them. I was exaggerating slightly due to the fury of seeing our supporters tugging their forelock to the likes of Everton. In fact I do believe that London clubs like Spurs will have an advantage over us when signing foreign players due to location, but Everton and Blackburn are behind us in the pecking order IMO. Those are the two clubs the lad was talking about and if Turan signs for either of them ahead of us, then he'll have a point.

Unfortunately we end up with a bunch of horrible cunts who aren't very good footballers either.

Nicky Shorey isn't going to come here to sit on the bench. If Keegan signs him it will be on the basis he will have to compete with Enrique for the left back spot. If he's prepared to come on that basis he's welcome. Otherwise put Kadar on the bench and sign another promising youngster.

Like I said, obviously defending Joey Barton is a passionate cause for some people here.
-
Peter Crouch said the Newcastle fans were vicious? Obviously defending Joey Barton is a passionate cause for some people here. Well Newcastle fans ringing out a few boos hasn't seen them locked up for 6 months so let's get things in context here.
-
He's obviously for sale at the right price, but the £13m his chairman is quoting is daft money for someone who is relatively unproven. Unfortunately while we are negotiating them down, others will become alerted, that's the real problem. Emre going the other way could be the clincher in the deal.
-
As others have said, while his devotion to his Man U is fair enough, it didn't have to be at the expense of distancing himself from his roots. "As ye repulse so shall ye be repulsed" these would be the words of a wise man if anyone had ever said them.
-
Martin Jol seems an ok poster even though he's an obvious Spurs plant checking our opinions on possible signings before texting his sister in law. The only time I really hated Spurs was when Hoddle was in charge, but that was because I can't stand the smug bastard.
-
Why though? His passing isn't that great and he's not exactly great at tackling... Pace isn't his only weakness. To his credit he's got a powerful shot which he craftily never uses to keep the opposition guessing...
-
I am pretty certain that when we signed him we would have made it clear that we expected him to make a fresh start and put his putrid history behind him. If he has ignored this chance and carried on recklessly behaving like a boozing charv thug I think our obligations are pretty much at an end.
-
If he had it would be understandable. He's not Maradonna though so if he wants to put his mediocre career in jepoardy why should anyone else wring their hands over it? Seriously? You think that its OK for people to vary their opinion on what we should do about it based on how he's been playing? I'm saying if he was a a brilliant player as well as a horrible bastard at least you'd have some reason for wanting to defend him.

Well done. The forecast looks bright and sunny for tomorrow with an expected high of 18C...

Apart from the obvious ugly incidents which Barton keeps getting himself involved in, the fact that he had drunk 10 pints plus another 5 bottles of alcohol on the night says a lot in itself. No wonder the dope has looked lethargic this season. I would cut our losses tbh. We might lose any future transfer fee but we would save a fair bit on his wages. I can only see him going downhill like Gazza because he's obviously deranged.

..or the self-belief which is his biggest weakness for me. Milner has enough in his game to be a fantastic player but he's a bottler basically. He is the exact opposite of David Bentley, in that Bentley oozes confidence and will grab a game by the balls and make his mark. Milner shuffles and wanders aimlessly down the flanks, and despite having a good right foot you can guarantee he'll fluff it in front of goal if he gets a chance. Sell. Sell now for £6m and buy a young replacement with some fire and ambition.

Maybe so, but the Premiership is a big lure for foreign players these days. So many big clubs were linked with Modric but he ended up choosing between us and Spurs. I also believe that Mort and Ashley won't mind paying big wages for genuine emerging stars as opposed to over-the-hill celebrities like Henry. Of course the Premierleague is a big lure. But the attraction is considerable higher for someone from the Croatian league compared to someone who already earns good money in Germany. Gomez will leave Stuttgart. But this will most likely to be next year and most likely to be a club with a much bigger reputation than Newcastle who Gomez would see as a step down or sidestep, despite the lure of the Premierleague. You could be right, but I just think that younger foreign players are more likely to be enthusiastic to test their mettle in the Premier given the opportunity. It might be possible to earn good money in Germany or Holland say, but the best players in the world aren't usually playing in those leagues these days. I don't think it's an outrageous idea that we could bid for him at least believing we have a chance of securing the player.
