"As the ultimate outsider I'll bring FIFA into the 21st century by enacting the reforms no apparatchik in the old boy network would dare propose. For starters, I'll name a woman as general secretary, FIFA's most powerful appointed position." Or you could appoint the person most qualified for the job, perhaps? Obviously hasn't got a hope in hell of winning this and is just looking to boost his own profile, but hopefully can cause Blatter and his goons some hassle in the process.

Never heard them called the first and second post before.
-
Considered him but I just think Cafu was absolutely fucking ace. And as Disco said, he'd rape with Messi in front of him.
-
Shearer was probably a better striker of a football from distance tbh, Ronaldo was a vastly better finisher than him though.
-
Right, trying to build a team rather than just the best 11 players. In my time. --------------------Schmeichel Cafu ------- Cannavaro ---- Nesta ------- Maldini ------------- Keane -------- Xavi Messi ------------ Zidane ---------------- Cronaldo ------------------- Ronaldo

he offered a lot more than the majority of one paced clapped out farts he was playing with. Aye well obviously, scoring goals is pretty useful.
-
Or one the year before. Martins goalscoring record was very good when he was here, problem was he offered fucking nothing else to the team.
-
1 goal in 3 isn't that good at the top level. Absolute rubbish. What do you consider to be 'good enough' then? A goal a game? For a good striker they should be scoring at least 15 goals if they play a full premiership season. 1 in 3 is what I would call average especially for a striker costing £10M. So about 6 strikers in the league last year yeah?

His record at Madrid is hilariously good when you consider he was only a shell of his pre-injury self. Just the complete package. Messi is the only one I've seen that you can make a case for in terms of being th best player I've ever seen. Who do you reckon was better having seen them both play for the team you support Village Idiot, you absolute fucking jammy cunt?

Would really love to see this team of ours with some real quality up front and Ben Arfa on the left like. Every penny of that Carroll money needs to be spent on the best strike pairing we can find this summer.
-
Can't imagine Smith being good at golf like.
-
Thought for a while now that Messi was overrated, good to see someone with the courage and intellect to point it out stepping forward.
-
Eh? When did skiing become socially unacceptable like?
-
Been out skiing, only just coming back to all of this. Fucking hell. Simply amazing. What a club.

How do you mean?

I still can't bring myself to be angry at the club for accepting a 35m offer for him. It's an insane amount for a player who has proven as little as he has, not to mention his 'colourful' personality. At the end of the day Carroll had the choice and he fucked off. What exactly could the board have done to punish him had he told Liverpool to do one?
-
well, let's see what the next few days press conferences reveal shall we? he's already stated publicly he was "forced out" right? If he handed in a transfer request he hasn't got a leg to stand on as far as I'm concerned. I doubt anyone held a gun to his head and forced him to submit the request. If he didn't then that changes things, naturally, but it'd be insane from Ashley to claim he put in a transfer request if he didn't. Not like people wouldn't find out the truth pretty quickly. on a basic level i agree with you, if you're boiling it right down that far - he requested therefore he's to blame keegan & hughton (iirc) have both stated how disgraceful the club is ran behind closed doors and they've been found in court to be liars and manipulators of every situation going i won't believe Carroll forced this on his own until it comes out of his own mouth He's obviously not going to come out and say he wanted away though is he? It'll be in his interests to say he was forced out, because he knows that there's enough suspicion towards Ashley that a lot of people will side with him.

I don't understand why you have to be angry at anyone. Ashley did what you would expect any club owner to do. Carroll did what you would expect any footballer to do. If anything, my anger lies with Torres/Liverpool/Chelsea for distorting the situation to a ridiculous degree. Even then, I can't be angry with the success of others. Mostly, just disappointed with the situation and how quickly this chapter of NUFC's history has unfolded. As always, I am looking forward. Aye, angry is probably not the right word. I was sad more than anything when it broke.

what do you base any of that on dude? Don't really see why Carroll would put in a transfer request otherwise. If that turns out to be a lie and he never requested a transfer then I'll change my view obviously, but I doubt even Ashley and Llmabias are stupid enough to lie about that. more than meets the eye to this imo, with the limited info available to me right now and all of the history of ashley & llamblias at the club it beggars belief that anyone would think Carroll forced this unilaterally while Mike & Derek sat there knocking back 35m and saying "naw Aaaaandy dawn't doooo it, daaawn't go, we're ganna bild da clab arawd ya san" they're behind it somehow They knocked back 30m apparently. But no matter how much you may want to keep a player there comes a point where you really have to look at the offer on the table and wonder whether rejecting it really is the smart thing to do. 35m for a player who has six good months of football to his name as a professional? That's a crazy amount. I really couldn't blame them for accepting it tbh. But the fact that Carroll had to actually formally submit a request before they'd accept the offer implies to me that they were willing to turn it away if the player really wanted to stay. Carroll would have to know that submitting a transfer request would make him the villain of the piece in the eyes of some fans, but he went ahead and did it anyway. What other motivation could there be for him to put in the request? He wanted out.

Is Mike Ashley the worst person ever to have been associated with NUFC?

He might well be. Find it hard to really blame him for this though. -
Can't direct my anger at anyone other than Carroll over this tbh. 35m for a player who has had 6 months of good top flight football and has had numerous run ins with the law and is known for generally being a bit of a loose cannon is a very difficult deal to turn down. That said, my guess is that Ashley was willing to do that if Carroll wanted to stay. He put the decision in Carroll's hands, and Carroll told us all to fuck off and followed the money. Hope the cunt turns out to be the next Michael Ricketts, mercenary wanker.
-
Just waking up here... Would have been quite happy had we brought N'Zogbia back tbh, would be a significant upgrade at LW. Did they really throw the bids in with 10 minutes to go though?
-
My guess. Once Liverpool offered 35m Ashley decided he'd be willing to sell. (Hard to really blame him at that either price, IMO) However, I don't think he was desperate to sell either, so he calls Carroll('s agent) and tells him he has an offer that he'd be willing to accept, but he'll only do so if Carroll puts in a transfer request. If Carroll wants to stay, he won't force him to go and will be happy to keep him. Essentially he put the decision in Carroll's hands, and Carroll fucked us.
