In a way I'm glad I wasn't completely sold on him due to his poor form in the last season or two and his injury record. There are certainly less risky buys out there. Also I'm not totally sure we were actually after him. We've been doing our transfer business very quietly since the Ashley takeover so I'd be surprised if a deal leaked to the press when it wasn't imminent. Can see it possibly being the agent hyping up the rumours to get more money.

IF we do sign I'd be cautiously optimistic. If he can regain his form then he'd be an absolute steal at £7m but it feels like we've been here before, signing a big name player who hasn't been at the top of his game for atleast a year or two and who has had a few injury problems. I really do hope if we sign him he comes good but as I say I'm not getting too carried away.

Have we learnt nothing? Signed Duff after an injury ravaged year and he's subsequently hardly played and never regained that high standard. Emre, Dyer and Viduka have laso been perma-crocks over the last few seasons. The last thing we need is an aging player with a poor injury record. We've seen with Emre that even if you have the footbaling talent if you can't get n the pitch then your useless.

Do you feel that Boothroyd might be losing it a bit? I thought he was one of the best young managers a few years back but he seems to have lost it now, I saw some comments from him recently saying that he didnt think he needed an assistant manager, which to me is a mistake. Also a lot of Watford's best players have been sold and Boothroyd's buys havent been the best.

He's played a season in this league and not really done much to shout about. Hardly the same as Bentley is it. The only comparison is that he was let go by one of the top 4. Compare him to Bentley in 3 years when he's one of the best players in the league. Norwich were in the Premier League when Bentley was there iirc.
