Just a thought here but could the reason for Spurs and us having similar transfer targets be Jimenez. I mean wasn't Jimenez the one who negotiated bringing Ramos to Spurs so you'd presume from that he has some sort of link to the Tottenham heirarchy.

He can't use the "Webster ruling" as he needs to hand in his notice within a period of days after the season has finished. So he'd have to wait until the end of next season to do that.

Is anyone else getting slightly worried this deal might not be as done as thought? If he still doesn't have his registration it's likely that Mallorca and the Spanish FA are refusing to release it, which means it will probobly take a FIFA or UEFA hearing to get his registration but who knows when that would take place.

I think Malbranque and Chimbonda would have been an improvement on what we have but obviously they are not what were looking for. I'd say the 4 are very good buys for Sunderland, definetly improving on what they have.

Highlights of games would cost extra money to broadcast on TV (because of the existing TV deals) so you'd need a very large subscriber list to make it viable. As already stated MUTV do this but that channel makes a loss. If a deal was done with Setanta then would the extra cost only be for games shown on sky sports ? I would imagine also that any highlights would have to be shown after Sky had done their highlights bit. We'd have to negotiate a deal directly with the Premier League to be able to show highlights. We wouldn't get them on the cheap either, we'd have to pay comaprable rates to what SKY and BBC pay i.e we show highlights of 1 out of 10 games per weekend (our game basically) then we'd have to pay roughly 10% of what Sky and the BBC pay per weekend. I imagine these costs alone would make the channel impossible to run making a profit.

Just some of my random thoughts on other clubs summer transfers. - Hull City have done brilliantly so far. Brought in 6 players, 5 of whom have premiership experience (admittedly to varying degress of success). Look to be hot on the trail of King and Meite. Really impressed with them as despite me having a soft spot for them I thought they would certainly go down, now I think they are giving themsleves a chance to stay up. - Spurs look set to ruin a potentially very good summer. Modric and Gomes especially should do well for them but any progress they make will be instantly ruined if they sell Berbatov and Keane. Also rumours say Chimbonda and Malbranque could be on their way out and in my opinion they are both important players for Spurs especialy if they want to compete in 4 competitions. - What a load of rubbish Fulham are signing. Can't believe they paid £6.3m for Zamora (who scored 1 goal last season) and Pantsil (who started 7 games in 2 years).

The first mention of a Guthrie deal came at about Midday on Friday when the Liverpool Echo reported a bid had been accepted then the deal was announced as official by 8pm that night by us. Also another club was involved in the Gutierrez deal because he had to hand in his notice to Mallorca several days after the season finished.
