Is it not possible that the debt was wiped out so that we once again became solvent and able to build for the future without having to service massive levels of debt? Is it possible that the owner wiped the debt out so that he could allow the chairman to make decisions for the football club without having to go to him with a begging bowl asking him to dip into his pocket? The football club without debt can then be run on its own resources and we're not paying £millions to banks, we can spend what we bring in. Of course he could be trying to raise the asking price for the club but that doesn't make sense at all because the net value of the club will not change. He paid £135million and has wiped out £75 million of the £100 million debt, he still had to get £210 million for him to break even and a buyer would still have £25 million in debt which still adds up to £235 million, no matter how it's dressed up. The only difference it makes to the club is that we don't pay massive amounts in interest payments. Anyway, you can have the last word.

Really? I may be wrong but I always thought that the chairman ran the club and made the decisions and the major shareholder/owner stayed in the background and let the chairman do the job he was employed to do which takes us back to the original post where the current chairman was saying just that.
-
Morts net spend is £1 million more than we averaged under the last chairman.
-
The irony is that the net spend under Shepherd was £9.1m per season, the net spend so far under Mort (the chairman for the benefit of NE5) is £10 million. The debt from the stadium wasn't over £100 million but that's the debt that the club was carrying when Ashley (the owner for the benefit of NE5) bought it.
-
44 of the £100 million was for the ground and some of that will have been paid off, most of the debt was from running the club at a loss, buying players who were not good enough and paying off sacked managers will have been a big chunk of the debt.

This is nothing like the Partizan Window, it's more like the early days of Sir Bobby. We've just brought in 9 players who need to learn to play together in the same team, bringing in more players will only make this problem worse. If we can get the right player at the right price then fair enough but we shouldn't buy for the sake of it. I think we'll have the basis of a good team in the summer, that will be the time to start going for one or two better players. We've got to build steadily and nobody should be stoned just yet.

Christmas isn't too far away, they've probably got 2nd jobs to bring in some extra income.

Ashley isn't the bestest chairman in the whole world, he isn't even chairman. You're desperate to see us fail. Isnt spending £25m on a manager they dint appoint quite ambitious? Isnt signing 9 players of a good quality quite ambitious? Isnt clearing the debt run up by the last regime so the club can progress more efficiently ambitious? Why is it that sepnding money on players in your world is the only sign of true ambition? Why isnt the club actviely looking to improve the youth system by signing potential stars for the future ambitious? What has the chairman actually specifically said that implies he's not looking to improve the squad? Therefore insinuating that theres no ambition. Would just like to point out as well that Mort has been in the club for 5 months and so far (excluding the purchase of the club) £100m has been spent by him, is that a lack of ambition? You seem to think that Shepards method of running the club was the only blueprint for success inthe premiership (i.e throwing money at people)? But didnt his method leave us in a precarious position? £80m in debt? Wheres the justification for all this praise? Are you related to Freddy Shepard? And by any chance are you a journalist or a politician? I think you've got me.

Emre seems to do better when coming off the bench, so no.

It's crazy in some respects, N'Zogbia could bring so much more to our game if he was starting from further up the pitch. Playing him at the back might actually help his game eventually if he goes back up because he'll have learned something about defending but for now, it's mad. I've seen nothing in Enrique to suggest he'll not make it here, he needs games and games like today would do him good. If Allardyce is trying to keep things settled then fair enough as he had to bring Cacapa back for an injured Taylor.
-
He did have a good game today, he's a very good, clever footballer who had a bad few minutes during one game and had a lot of people writing him off.
-
I find it hard to judge our forwards when we are so poor in midfield, losing Dyer and Solano needs addressing as we've got no creativity, especially when we keep playing N'Zogbia in defence.

Have you ever thought about posting in a thread which has nothing to do with who is running the club? The person who brought out that little twinkle in your eye has gone, get over it and move on, try being positive for a change and see the improvements which have been made. The club has another manager that you wanted, you also backed Roeder so even you should find something to be positive about.
-
The chairman should buy the players so his use of "I" is correct, it's up to the manager and those he trusts to chose them.
-
The original post contained quite a few quotes, I thought he might have been more specific.
-
Will he ever get fit enough to play a first game?
-
The talk of spending nothing is just that, talk. Nobody from the club have said that, they've just said they'll be going for younger players.

Years? It's been over a decade and we still haven't recovered from what that w****** did to our club. Believe me, many tens of thousands well understand the passion with which you hate Souness. I reckon more of you ire should be directed at Shepherd, though. It was perfectly clear to everyone but him that hiring Souness would be an utter disaster. Undermined from above by ignorant idiots? Liverpool had an excuse for appointing Souness, you did it at a time when his short record in management had been nothing but a success. By the time he came here it was clear to see what he was like and it was almost nailed on that he would fail.

I’ve had to do another poll as it was a draw, I'll probably end this on Sunday night so that it can be moved on. Question: What should we do for Bobby? Name a stand after him 68 (25.4%) Name the academy after him 68 (25.4%) Arrange a pre-season tournament 20 (7.5%) Present him with something 29 (10.8%) Walkway outside of St James 33 (12.3%) Image on the seats 0 (0%) Statue 31 (11.6%) Raise cash for charity 19 (7.1%) Total Voters: 268
-
It's a proper photograph, Channel 5 had a clip of Capello in a car with a clip of that idiot in the top right corner of the screen.
-
Guess?
-
I'll be ending this poll later, probably after midnight if anybody wants to change the way they voted. Some people might have voted for one with a low score and may want to go for something else.
