We've also been here before, mackem Pop Robson moved throughout his career, his longest single stay at any club was with us, the bloke moved between West Ham and his beloved Sunderland enough. Robsons career was Newcastle from 1964 to 1971, then off to West Ham for 3 years then to the mackems (home town club) for just over 2 years then he was back to West Ham for 3 years, back to the mackems then went to Carlisle. Edit, Waddle didn't support Newcastle, he supported the mackems.

During his last full season we hardly got beat, we drew too many games and that needed fixing, pity the money to do it wasn't forthcoming. I agree that it might not have worked out, you just never know what might have happened, it still would have been better than the way it ended. I really think he could have turned things around if given the chance. I doubt anybody could justify the way he was treated during that last summer before the sacking.

Oh well, I tried. I've answered your question many times about those three so I suggest you go and look for one of them, you've even responded to at least one of my posts. Waddle got the most stick I've ever seen a former player get when we played Spurs but you must know that as you will have been at WHL when we played them in those shit days, am I right? Beardsley didn't because people understood why he left, not that any of that has anything to do with what is happening now.

Sex isn't that good anyway, 2 seconds of pleasure and 20 years of pain.

It'll have been the Barnsley fans.

I bet you can prove that, not. Anyway, you're getting into a bit of a corner in this so I'll try and leave it if you are willing to do the same. I know you care about the club but I honestly think you'll gain a little satisfaction if it goes tits up and you get to say "I told you so." I'd prefer to say that to you and I really think it will take the shine off things for you if I'm able to say it to you because we've done well. That's the way you come over on here, rightly or wrongly.

This just gets better. Is that why he sacked Robson and replaced him with Souness?
-
Anything you say.
-
If that's the case then so did Allardyce, end of thread.

Hysterical, you've just given me my best laugh in ages. http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php?topic=48827.msg1153270#msg1153270 I completely agree. I think seeing him sitting in the stands wearing a Newcastle shirt has been embarrassing as f**k. And no, I'm not taking the piss

We bought Woodgate after Bobby had lifted us in time from 13th to a finish that season of 3rd and our best ever finish in the CL, I doubt money was as tight as you try to make out. In 2003 we spent £9 million and in 2004 we made a profit on transfers of £10.4 million only to then allow Souness to spend £30.9 million, all figures are net. The best manager ever under Shepherd was given the least amount of money to spend, defend that if you can. He was given less to spend than Kenny Dalglish, Ruud Gullit, Graeme Souness and Glenn Roeder under Shepherd. Roeder, Gullit and Robson were all given less to spend (net) per year than Allardyce.

Here we go again, our support was still amongst the best in the country, even in the 1980's. Football has been transformed since those days, it's not just Newcastle United who have changed, most clubs have, so has football in general.
-
No, to clarify, you tried to use Fulham to bash Mort and Ashley but it backfired. Hypocrisy, is that when somebody doesn't mind the chairman slagging the fans, Geordie females and the clubs best player from inside a brothel but gets embarrassed when the owner sits amongst the fans wearing a club shirt? I'm not defending the "lack of activity," I'm trying to put it into perspective, I can't help it if doesn't fit your agenda, facts are facts. As for us getting relegated and what I might say, I’ve no idea and will not until it happens, if it does. I’ve already mentioned in the last few pages of this thread who I would expect to blame. I don’t despise the old board at all, I just think we could have done a lot better than we actually did, I also know we could have done worse but that doesn’t make what actually happened any better. I doubt any fan of any other club would look at the worst position they’d ever been in and think of anything else as being good enough just because they hadn’t reached that level again. And no, I don’t think we’ve got a divine right to anything, if we have then that would be to failing.

I'll probably get labelled as a sentimental fool or something but he still comes up with the goods when it comes to talking about football.
-
So did Wigan, Portsmouth, Reading, Birmingham & Bolton by the looks of it.
-
That was the first thing I thought when reading Dave's post.
-
That's even worse than I first thought, Ashley and Mort have been screwing the club for longer than any of us could have known, pack of bastards.

Have another Jesus wept.

All that link proves to me is that the figures are wrong, I can see that as soon as I see what they have for Roeder spending so I’m taking it with a pinch of salt. Roeder spent £5 million of Duff and just over £10.1 million on Martins, he got back £1.7 million for Viana, £500k for Chopra, £2 million for Faye and £3.3 million for Boumsong. Roeder either spent £15.1 million gross or £7.6 million net. If they can get that wrong then they can get anything wrong. Even if it's true I'm sure I could go and find times in the last 15 or so years when we've been behind smaller clubs when it comes to spending I agree with your last comment, that's why I mentioned it in an earlier post, I don't agree with giving Souness almost £50 million and I doubt that you do either.
-
Jesus wept.

Prove that Fulham spent more, I'm sure that you can back that up. Also, as has been said a million times, Allardyce had more to spend but chose not to for some reason. You are mentioning what Allardyce said soon after the takeover yet you forget to mention that he also thanked them for allowing his to spend more money then he’d ever had in a single transfer window.
-
Good to see the facts at the start of your post. As for the spending, nobody complained when we spent to take the club forwards, the complaints came when we spent money to go backwards. You can take any time you want to make things look good but the fact is that when we were in a strong position to improve the team, we stopped and then wondered why we couldn’t match what others were doing. The ideal time to spend is when you are in a position of strength, not when you’re heading in the wrong direction. We were doing well and then stopped, within months we had Souness who was given almost £50 million, we spent at the wrong time and we did it to try and get back to where we were before we stopped spending. Would you rather spend £10 to keep something or £100 to get it back?
-
I took the bit in brackets to be a bit of a parody.
-
They did nothing? They backed the manager you thought would do a good job, what part of "he had money left to spend" do you not understand? When things looked shite they sacked the manager you wanted and replaced him with another you are happy with and they made money available for him to spend. What more could they have done?
-
Nobody expects anything to happen automatically, you're the only one who ever uses the word in relationship to what is happening at the club. If we do get relegated then I'll blame the players, Ashley, Mort, Shepherd, Keegan, Allardyce, Roeder (to a lesser extent) and Souness, they'll have all played a part in it.
