Mm well people who have watched him mishit cross after cross for 2 and a half seasons maybe... just because he got an assist yesterday, it doesn't suddenly make him become the worlds best crosser now.. does it? 2 assists actually I think the issue with him is he outdoes himself. For most of the time he's been here he's been doing most of the running for the team and to put in a cross at the end off that solo run (surrounded by totally immobile teammates), it's hard to put a cross in. I remember in the championship he put in quite a few good crosses. I think his technique in striking the ball to cross is good, it's just when he tries to outdo himself by doing all the running for the team that he doesn't have the extra effort at the end to get his cross off.

Shola is immortal man, nothing will convince any Newcastle manager that he isn't essential to the squad. I think the key point is that no striker of Shola's ability is willing to sit around on our bench for extended periods of time helping the new strikers that come to our club to adapt and replace him in a continuous cycle. Most would probably go for regular football at championship level. Thus Shola is our essential backup man forever. Possibly, yeah. I don't even dislike Shola, he's always put in the maximum he can with his limited ability. If he gets a testimonial match I'll definitely go to it and praise the lad to the rooftops. He's just sadly not a top premier league striker. And for that reason you can't dislike him. To be honest whenever transfer rumours about shola come around I always think, crap who's gonna be our backup striker (with our horrendous injury record)?

Sadly I agree Dave, the club's policy on transfers and contracts is hard-line and Ashley is immovable in his view that players should fall into line. He was never going to improve Carroll's contract again so soon after doing it the first time. As much as I don't like the result, the policy is clear and at least they have some sort of plan for how the finances are managed. This. What a cunt he is asking for a new contract and claiming the club 'forced him out'. It seems insane, seems like he made this decision completely on a whim, it's not like with allardyce where the fans and players had become disillusioned with the manager, the players and the fans have never backed the manager more....seems a really odd decision. Even if he was to bring a new manager in, it should have been at the end of this season after we secure premierleague safety...not now, I cannot bear to imagine what player morale will be like. I can only see our key players leaving after this.
