It's hard to partner Cisse with anyone in a two because he doesn't have brute power nor blistering pace. He has smart movement, good control and a precise finish. For a player like cisse either the whole team needs to play well or he needs a partner who has strength and pace who isn't selfish....That kind of profile is hard to find. I'd be interested to see how well Gouffran plays on the left wing though....

Regardless of the corporate structure there are still certain people who are capable of legally binding a company. What form our legal personality our club holds is irrelevant. What I was saying is that the club has a separate legal personality to the owner and the people who can bind the club into contracts is denoted by corporate governance/structure where managers can't legally be involved.

Surely at most clubs the manager isn't involved in sorting out medicals and contracts. As a publicly listed company there are a limited number of people who can legally bind the club into a contract, there would be lawyers involved and medical professionals. It sounds like Pardew asked the board to bring Debuchy in and the board is acting to achieve that. They have reached an agreement with Lille over the fee but there's still a long process left. Surely that's normal?

Seeing that he'll now be touted to other club it's more like 'so Chelsea won't be held to ransom by a player's agents?' Fair play to Chelsea.

No arguments there. He's a top professional though who is well loved at this club, and would do a job for the squad. I remember overhearing some Everton fans saying exactly that about Simpson though...

I can sort of understand them not paying higher than a price that was already agreed, if that was the case, as it could set a precedent for other deals going forward. It's only sort of though, as a fan obviously I'd have preferred they paid the extra money and we'd had him sooner. I think Pardew's refusal to offer a better contract for Simpson shows that he isn't completely won over by him.
