  1. Stephen Carr For: Speaks English Against: He used to be the best right back in English football 8 years ago before his injuries and old age set in. Now too slow, too heavy and even worse played out of position at left back Verdict: Shut the door behind you Celestine Babayaro For: Showed commitment and courage when suffering a family bereavement Against: Seems to be asleep a lot of the time Verdict: Never looked the part, a poor signing Source: Players Guide 2006/07 by Mad Mick, from The Mag
  2. More Comical Alan propaganda on behalf of Stephen Carr. Strangely it seems that Baba is shite yet Carr is really good. No new right back for us next season then > Source: The Chronicle -------------------------------------------------- Glenn Roeder has thanked Stephen Carr for plugging the gaps in Newcastle United's problem left-back position. And that's where, despite Celestine Babayaro being fit again, Carr will perform when United make their first visit to the Madejski Stadium in the Premiership for Monday's televised game with Reading. United boss Roeder is well aware Carr is not a favourite among the United supporters, but he has no complaints at the way the 30-year-old has operated on his wrong side lately. Before supervising United's training session today ahead of their flight to London tomorrow tea-time, Roeder told me: "I thought Stephen Carr was excellent against Chelsea on Sunday. "He has filled in well at left-back and he gave James Milner some great support with the way he overlapped down the left. "Not only that, he was talking to James all the time, and he is feeling the benefit of all Carr's experience. "That's why it is important to us that Stephen Carr stays fit for our last three games." As it happens, both United's full-backs at the Madejski Stadium on Monday night, Carr and Nobby Solano, will effectively be playing out of position. And Babayaro may well be asking himself why Roeder would rather play someone out of position rather than place any confidence in him, now that the former Chelsea star and Nigerian international is finally fit again. And why signing a new left-back is a big priority for Roeder in the close season.
  3. All good stuff in principle but fucking difficult to do in practice.......
  4. Dunno about the tea lady but it's always the same old shit from me, I'm afraid :icon_biggrin:
  5. If the numbers quoted are true, imo we should sell. His main plus point is his pace and at 27 or whatever I wonder how much longer he can keep it. To me it makes good financial sense to sell now and fund a replacement on cheaper wages. imo he's not played enough for us & consistently well to be indispensable, & he's surely too expensive to keep.
  6. cause they have tried their best to get him to sign a contract and he wouldnt as he wants to move on. Simple really if he was being let go for no reason, or being sold off then i would join you I think Dan is implying he is a mercenary bastard
  7. I'm relieved right back isn't a priority.
  8. I think the other problem is that he'd get a better offer than a lower mid-table team out of Europe next season & with a makeweight manager i.e. us
  9. Good shout. Half of them from the north east too I notice
  10. You seem to be missing the top 4 managers and you've included some non-Prem managers too. At the moment I'd be thinking Allardyce out of those mentioned. The club seems in a mess financially and in the set up and he's steadily improved Bolton year on year with little money. However I'm hoping we'd consider someone other than those lot frankly.

  12. At a guess "Surround yourself with the lucky and the happy" in cod Latin.
  13. You seem to be implying some sort of criticism of our board. Their lackies will be along in a moment to shoot yout down for not understanding what you are are on about ...... Tush, I'm small fry for them. It'd be the equivalent of the Russians invading Lichtenstein. You're the Big Cahoona they're really after :icon_biggrin:

    Season Review - NUFC

Nobody gets to put out a consistent team though, it's what you have a squad and coaches for. I agree with you regarding Owen incidentally but it's a moot point whether Ameobi would have turned our season around. A lot of the players injured - Carr, Baba, Ramage, Moore etc - could arguably have improved the team by being out. I'm generally suspicious about the sheer number of injuries - imo the number is due to either poor training methods, gutless players, or players who aren't fit and never will be. Why should clubs with the resources of Wigan or Reading have infinitely better injury records than us? Given the level of injuries under Souness, imo it's either incredible bad luck or incredibly bad management not to have addressed it by now. It's strange how injuries were never an excuse last season but now apparently are.

    Season Review - NUFC

Season = massively disappointing. Of course, we'd have had a great season if it wasn't for the crippling injury problems, anybody would have struggled. Not that I'm making excuses, oh dear me no.
  16. I've always expected that top clubs line up managers when they foresee the present incumbent is failing and may need to be replaced. In fact I bet most top clubs know who's available, coming available or would be interested in the job. It's a simple matter then to tap them up if things are going pear shaped. Some foreign clubs (Madrid, Barca, Milan for instance) seem to have the next 2 managers lined up before the current one's had the chance to fail. Any competent club would a) lock in its best people and b) plan for the succession of key staff. You can't rely on people to do well or stay on forever, so it's not some kind of new fangled fancy dan business technique, it's just basic common sense. I expect the football world is quite small so it's not difficult, people's paths cross all the time, you just need to ask around and make an effort to track the people you might want. Now I don't know whether we do this. But the overriding impression from the last 2 appointments is that we wait until a manager's job is untenable, sack him and then issue an open invitation for candidates to apply. Then we take ages to appoint someone. We actually seem to have no idea who we want and genuinely start from scratch each time. This is incredible to me if it's true - why shouldn't we identify who we want to take the team forward and will fit in with the team & club, tap them up like crazy, and get them in at a time to suit us? Bollocks to it being illegal, everyone else does it!
  17. If we hadn't bought Carr. If we hadn't bought Carr. If we hadn't bought Carr. Great phrase. Almost as good as: When we give Carr a free transfer to Sunderland.
  18. Or: Man in orange coat "How about I let go of your balls when you stop ruining my team Roeder?"

  23. Maybe Real's "interest" had more to do with improving his contract negotiations?
  24. In the sense that Jimmy Tarbuck is also qualified to be our DOF (although Jimmy doesn't drive Freddy's golf kart, which might count against him)
