Top clubs secretly planning breakaway Euro Superleague.
Exiled in Texas replied to Parky's topic in Football
It's not really workable. Suppose the 14 clubs leave their domestic leagues (for example suppose ManU and Chelsea make the 14) and play a season of European games. What happens next season? Do the new Premier league champions (Arsenal or Liverpool) automatically get in and the current teams drop out? What about the teams that finished bottom of the Euro League? Relegated back to their league? Replaced by their home leagues champions? What if another countries champions are better than the champions of the relegated team? Besides, these issues I think the whole concept is poorly thought out anyway. Will a EuroLeague game be as exciting as a domestic derby game? Will following a team that doesn;t play anyone elses local team be exciting after the first season.....would Man U rather plan Milan in EuroLeague or Liverpool in Premiership. It sounds very easy to set it up, but I just can't see this being sustainable. -
signed a 2 yr extension I thought.

Sibierski turned down longer contract with Everton

I don't get it.....he is a squad player. He is not meant to lead the attack week-in and week-out, but to come into a game from the bench when needed. We all piss and moan about not having a big enough squad but then when Roeder signs a squad player to increase the overall depth of the squad then thats not good enough either. FFS a team is probably only able to manage 3 top class strikers playing 2 at a time and then needs a second tier of strikers to make up the squad - players that understand their role at the club. Sibierski is that type of player.....fills in well when he plays but isn't going to throw his toys out of the pram if we field a front pair of Martins and Owen. I like the signing of him to a second year....stablises the squad in terms of numbers and ability without destablising it with bad influences. -
Boca - River. tbh

The Rapids changed their colors and logo to closer match the NHL COlorado Avalanche which is also owned by Stan Kronke. Looks like some brand alignment between his Franchises.

Sounds like you all want Roeder to go out and shoot his wad on a couple of players on a stop-gap basis and hope that they work out. Then if the transfers are not run away sucesses, then you blame the manager for doing exactly what you asked for. FFS, we'd all like to have back the 9M for Luque and the 9M for Boumsong, and have it to spend elsewhere. Well who is to say that Roeder didn't back away from a couple of marginal transfers that he felt were too risky. i.e. he never pulled the trigger on a Luque or Boumsong deal. When you are 80M in debt, or whatever we are, and your predecessor spend 50M on some dross then you have to be carefull. First you can't flash the cash because you don't have it, and the little you do needs to be well spent.

Gillet is now in partnership with Tom Hicks, according to Dallas Morning News. Hicks owns the Dallas Stars ice hockey team and the Texas Rangers baseball team. According to the article (Posted in the Liverpool takeover thread) Hicks and Gillet were both at the the NHL All Stars game in Dallas last week and the idea of splitting the investment in Liverpool 50/50 gathered momentum during some meetings together. Whoo HOo ....Finally I am ITK

News of a new suitor for Liverpool appeared in the Dallas Morning News today. Tom Hicks, the owner of the Dallas Stars ice hockey team and the Texas Rangers, is apparently going into partnership with Gillette (who also owns the Montreal Canadiens ice hockey team) to purchase Liverpool for $450M.

All players must wear shin pads, but the size and material are not specified.

Sounds like you already made up your mind. Newcastle has somehow interested you, while the local teams leave you cold. Start making the transition, follow the Toon, get some Newcastle gear, but take your time before proclaiming to be a die-hard fan. You can always fall back on the truth that you finally came to realise that Chelsea are plastic, while the Toon live and breath for NUFC through all their ups and down. Better to follow the Toon for their character than Chelsea for their titles.

The question was, where can you see the game best? TV or Stadium? I think you can see the game best from TV. Closer to the action, replays etc. Now, if you ask the question about where do you enjoy the game more. Then the stadium wins hands down everytime.

Chelsea (Carling Cup) - Pre-match thread

Can we do a "Buy it Now" or do we have to wait for the auction to end in 40 days? -
I think the Beatles covered that one in their "A day in the life"

It's got to be this one....plus you get a two-for bargain.

But what if Darlington or Hartlepool keep getting promoted? Spain has a no promotion rule for the B teams, how would you feel if you were a Darlington fan? I'd be p*ssed off! More to the point, if there were a number of B teams being introduced, further down the food chain there will be clubs being bounced into the Conference. No, if Chelsea want a B team or an agreed feeder club, let Abramovich buy a team in Scotland or France and ship the rest of the squad there. The agreement that Manure have with Royal Antwerp is the way for Chelsea to go if that's what they want. True....the minor league/feeder club approach that they have with Baseball and Hockey works because there is no promotion/relagation between leagues. Within one countrys structure there would be issues of Chelsea B getting promoted into the same league as Chelsea A or a series of B league teams topping their division but the 8th through 10th teams get promoted. That couldn't work. But going over seas could work.
-
I think what will eventually happen is that the League 1 and League 1 teams will become feeder clubs for the big ones, and there will be a formalised relationship where players go up/down between the lower club and the big club. What is does, unfortunately, is push some of the lower tier players out of a job as Big Club reserve teamers and subs take spots in the minor league teams saturday lineup. eg Newcastle form relationships with Hartlepool and Darlo and send their players there for development. Newcastle retains control over these two clubs in terms of controling the coaching staff and managers etc.

The best way to drive up the share price is to improve the team and make the club worth more. If buying a couple of good players for £10M would drive up the share price enough to make the club worth more than that then it's to Freddies advantage to invest now.

We got what we wanted.....cover for the striker position. Sure SAF might have wanted Rossi to play, and if he was good enough I would have wanted him to play too, but he was only ever here for cover. No one thought that Sibierski would have been Glens go-to-guy, so if Rossi couldn't beat out Sibs for the forward position then he wasn't as good as SAF thinks he is. We wanted cover for the forwards....Rossi was that cover. Job done. Now GR needs to sign some player permanently to shore up the forwards and defense.

I thought this was going to be about Nzogbia

Man Utd's success came not so much from who they bought, but from one amazing accademy class that gave them Beckham, the Nevilles, Gigs and Scholes (did I miss anyone). That was almost half their first team for almost a decade. Their transfer records is as hit & miss as many teams, but that academy class was like catching "lightning in a bottle" and they would love to do that again, just as every other team would.

Even if Roeder is looking to move Luque, I'm sure he is trying to buy first and then sell, cos he doesn't want to move him on and then be left with Shola and Milner as his starting forwards. Luque won't go anywhere until Roeder has suitable replacements.

Wanting LuaLua back is simply "good old days" syndrome. Remembering a few of his good moments and forgetting about all his bad ones. Squad player, bench warmer and back is all he should be considered for.

That is what chelsea want Hope so, but saying "Loan fee £10M and then must purchase" makes me think that the overall outlay would be more than just £10M
