 Would have been fine but he opted for Tyneside. I only want players to sign for Spurs if they want to wear the shirt. If they want to go elsewhere I've no problem with that.

Why would the FA involve themselves in Premier League matters?
-
No reason to believe it isn't. Teams that play on Thursday always their weekend game put back till the Sunday.

Whether MJ is good enough is debatable. Personally, I'm happy with the progress being made and think he's up to it. I know others don't share that view. No left winger yet, true, but finding one with the necessary quality is easier said than done. When one is available, I'm confident Spurs will do what they can to sign him.

I think comment from Sir John Hall might have more effect than similar words from another person.

Totally agree. Pardew had no reason to apologise imho, he simply celebrated his team's goal. Most managers with passion for the game and their team would do the same. Whinger gets a lot of credit for what he's done for the scum, and rightly so, but acts of petulance like yesterday do him no favours whatsoever. I dislike Fergie and he moans about a lot of things, but hasn't moaned about the opposing manager celebrating a goal. Pathetic!

Well, that's my opinion if he changes the way he operates. Yes, he has faults, quite a few I think, but he does have some good points as well, not least of which is that he always backs his managers with money come the transfer window. Where the money comes from and can the club actually afford the expenditure may be more questionable but the fact remains that he does provide the cash. I don't think any true Newcastle fan would like a Doug Ellis Mk II to hold the purse strings. The main problem with FFS in my humble opinion is that he is a dabbler. Dabbles in this, dabbles in that, dabbles in the things that shouldn't concern him. Like involving himself with the selection of new players, he's not qualified to do it, so why should he try. He appoints the manager, he should back the manager's judgement and buy who the manager wants, not who he thinks the manager might like. A case in point is Damien Duff. His agent is Pat Devlin, Devlin's son works at SJP. The 2 Devlins talk between themselves, Jr speaks to FFS, FFS does the deal with Dad and Roeder knew nothing about it until very late on in the day. That's what I was told by an Irish journo who plays golf regularly with Pat Devlin in Dublin. If that is true, and I have no reason to believe it's not, it paints a sorry picture of a Chairman buying a player the manager may not want and that the team doesn't need. I've nothing against Duff, he's a fine player and would have been happy to seen him playing for Spurs, but is buying a player behind the manager's back any better than selling a player behind his back? Probably worse imo as FFS is spending money that Roeder might have wanted to have spent in other areas. In the NUFC annual accounts there is a line which says 'The approval of all player transfers is a matter specifically reserved for decision by the board'. I'm not against that, that's the way it should be, after all, the buck stops with FFS and the board. What he shouldn't be doing is trying to do part of the manager's job for him because whether FFS likes it or not, he is not qualified to say which player will improve the squad. I have said in the past, as have others, about the appointment of a DoF. Personally I am very much in favour but even though Spurs have a DoF, the final decision is still with the Directors. There is a Football Committee who decide whether a player should be signed. Four people, Damien Comolli, Martin Jol, Daniel Levy and the Finance Director. If MJ and DC are agreed that a player should be signed, the committee meets up, the Finance Director says if there is the money and if there is, Levy rubberstamps the deal. It's then for Comolli to get it completed. If the fee and/or wages don't match the agreed levels, it's referred back to the full committee for agreement or rejection. It seems a simple and straightforward way of doing things. Maybe things would be a lot better if Sir John Hall spoke to FFS about his involvement in transfer dealings as I honesty think the harmoney and success that was coming under SBR could easily return. The basic infrastructure is still there, the fanbase is too, just cut out the dabbling FFS! Any thoughts?

Would you prefer winning the UEFA Cup but being relegated?
Martin Lol replied to a topic in Football
Have you forgotten what it was like before Newcastle got promoted to the premiership? Spurs were relegated for just one season and no trophy could ever make up for having to go to places like Oldham or Bradford. -
Might have got a very slight nick on the ball, maybe technically a very good tackle. For another scenario, Spurs playing the spanners, replace Hleb and put in Keano in that position, going through on goal. Would you be saying 'very good tackle' or would you be screaming for a penalty? :winking: Personally, I like the idea of the slime being hard done by, makes their defeat a little bit sweeter for me!

to answer both your questions, terry dragged king down hence he's second yellow card (bit harsh imho but the prat was mouthing off to the ref the whole game) and as for the other incident, spector definatly got a touch on the ball. blueeek.gif blueeek.gif blueeek.gif Please, please, please can you clean your glasses/tv screen/get an eye-check...Spector took out Hleb's standing foot when the ball was on his left foot...at least a yard away... the most blatant penalty I've seen this season. Just to prove Spurs don't automatically agree on everything, I reckon that was as blatant a penalty as you're likely to see. It was so unfair when it wasn't given, it was devestated for the Woolwich pikeys! :obi: :obi: :obi: :obi: :obi:

 Gutted to have missed you!! :winking:

I miss the old excuses, proper players, lady luck, substandard training grounds etc. At least Roeder admits the performances weren't acceptable and can only be put right by hard work.
-
Any particular trophy you have in mind? I think he's talking about the Intertoto trophy Haven't you won that already or is there another process to go through?
-
Any particular trophy you have in mind? You so want him to say "UEFA cup". Not really, just curious.

Only 36 votes? Surely apathy hasn't set in already! smeeagain.gif

I think SP is secure for a while yet unless the home performances and results go through the floor.

Ranieri is as good a shout as most. Foreign is probably the way to go. Think of a good English manager and you can probably think of 3 foreign ones you would want more.

No point sacking Roeder until we get rid of Fat Fred

Newcastle don't need a manager with a name, they've had those before with Dalgleish and Gullitt. Newcastle need a manager with ability. -
Top marks for accuracy, what do you reckon for the 3 remaining league fixtures for November? thanks. Lose against City and Arsenal. A win against Pompey. I've gone for 3 defeats. Pompey have 19 pts right now. Last season they got to that points total on 11th March. The 'Arry factor I call it.

Newcastle got 1 for a draw against Charlton. And the other one was for what?

Belgravia won't be interested in a Championship team. No need to be smarmy mate. MJ being a smary git? Not like him at all. But seriously though, MJ is posting, we must of lost a game, someone pass the vulture the salt. I was posting here after the Palermo match too. Maybe you can't handle the disappointment of a bad defeat and have to snipe at the one contributor here right now who isn't a diehard Newcastle fan. I'm saying I don't think the Newcastle team as it is right now have the stomach for a relegation fight like the other teams at the bottom of the table. Do you think I'm wrong? I don't think Newcastle will pick up a point in November, I did think there was a draw to be had tonight, but the players didn't have the bottle for it. I said before "Sorry, but I don't think there are enough 'scrapping' players in the squad to do better and the belief within the squad to grind out a win is waning as was shown in the Charlton game." http://www.newcastle-online.com/nufcforum/index.php/topic,31345.0.html I've seen nothing tonight to make me change my mind.
-
Belgravia won't be interested in a Championship team. We are not a championship team. No, but that is a serious possibility if performances don't turn around quickly. I've said previously that where Charlton, Sheff Utd, Watford all give the impression of being able of trying to scrap their way out of trouble, I saw nothing of that resolve from Newcastle tonight. In fact, if Moore's only effort to the fight is to flatten Hulse everytime he gets close to him, he could be spending time on the sidelines with suspensions. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the Video Panel had another look at their first coming together.

Milner. Seen him play better and put in more effort as well, but I accept your point. He was noticeably better than the rest.
